Hard To Love (The Hard Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 191 ratings

Chase Newman was everything I tried to avoid—charming, confident, and really good at getting what he wanted. And for some reason, he had his sights set on me.

Falling in love with him was easy, but our love was messy and complicated.

He made me believe in second chances. I thought I finally found my happy ending.

Until everything we built felt like a lie.

Suddenly, I was standing on shaky ground, wondering if what we had was worth fighting for.

My heart was being pulled in one direction while my fear was pulled in another.

I wanted to hold on and trust that our love could weather any storm because I wasn’t sure what scared me more, losing him or losing myself in the process.

This is the first book I've read by this author and it was absolutely fantastic I'm glad a choose it.
I couldn't put it down, it's a real page turner.
The characters were very loveable especially Emily, she was sweet but also very strong minded too and she knew exactly what she wanted. She's just come out of a long term relationship when she met Chase a real sexy, rich alpha male he is, but you knew that they were meant to be, the chemistry they had was phenomenal. They had a full on soul connection and I loved it, watching they story unfold was amazing. The story had a lot of twists and turn's and they went through alot together. The love that Chase had for Emily was undeniable and I was desperate to see what happened next.
I really enjoyed this book and all the characters in it the author really knew how to bring the characters and story alive and I'm glad I picked it up I was not disappointed, and I can't wait, can't wait to read the second book. This author has a true gift of writing and I would highly recommend this book.

This is the first book of S Jones that i have read and i was fortunate to have read this book early for an honest review.
    This book is a HEA.
The characters are strong and work well. There was plenty of twists and turns throughout this book!
I look forward to the rest of this series!

First of all its a good length so you get to know the characters in depth. I didnt quite get why Emily would stay with her boyfriend for two years knowing for a long time he wasnt the one. Her best friend pushes her to go to a new nightclub where she meets Chase. He makes a play for her straight away and she is bowled over by how handsome he is. He has to work hard to get her to be with him which is a novelty for him. As they get to know each other she is upset when he takes someone else to a party and she breaks up with him. Her ex is still in the picture wanting her back and Chase is jealous not handling things well when he has big secrets.

Big fan of this book from the start. I’m always happy and excited when I have the opportunity to read a book that keeps me gripped and is impossibly hard to put down. I love having my mind keep returning to the story even when I’m not reading it and I’m back to reality. This book had all of that and so much more.
Chase was by far the BEST character imaginable. I’m completely in love with this guy and the way he protects Emily is so swoon worthy and made me sigh. All the characters were amazing though and I felt excitement reading about every one of them. Nick was especially one of the funniest and I really would have liked to have read more about him. I’m hoping he has his own book!
Definitely a great book and one that you have to add to your TBR lists…..right now…..like now!

There is so much going for this book, Emily is coming out of a 2 year relationship with Brad. While Brad was a great guy he just wanted her "the one". She meets Chase at a club a few weeks after the breakup, but she isn't ready to get involved. But the heart wants what the heart wants and as much as she tries she can't stay away from him.

Chase was burned it the past, so he tends to stick to one night, but something is different about Emily.

I felt that the book started out a little slow, but once it started moving faster so much was happening. The main characters are likeable as are their friends. I also always love a good villain in a book, so this delivers there as well. Overall an enjoyable read.

I’m going to be honest through admitting my feelings towards Hard to Love are rather mixed. At times I was really pulled into the story and was considering giving it a four star rating, at other times I was forcing myself along as I wasn’t pulled into it in the way I wanted to be. It had high points, but it also had lows – hence, the three star rating. It had the potential to pull a four star rating from me, but it didn’t quite make it. Despite that, I’m confident the author has the potential to pull a four star rating from me for future books.

Hard to Love is one of those stories that pulls you in from the very start. It starts with a gripping event that leaves you wanting more, instantly pulling you into the lives of the main character. For the first part of the book there is so much going on, so many things that leave you with questions. In a way, it felt as though the author was trying to throw in all the tropes – such as ex drama and lack of trust, to give just two examples. These things are all wonderful, yet I felt as though it was too much for the first part of the book. Although it made for a lot of action, although it gave us numerous events, I feel as though the emotional connection was lacking.

You see, I enjoyed the events, but I didn’t really feel anything. I was watching rather than experiencing. With romance reads, I really like to feel what our characters are feeling. I want to go through the heartbreak and the fear; I want to be along for the ride. This book focused so much on giving us all of the events that I didn’t have the time to make the necessary connection with our characters. I was waiting for it to hit me, but it never quite did. Thus, I may have enjoyed the events (even if I do feel as though there were too many thrown into the first half of the book) but I didn’t feel them in the way I had hoped to.

For me, in quite a few ways, the second half of the book was better. It was much clearer where things were going, as we knew what the focus was to be. Rather than having countless events hitting us one after the other, the story made a move towards specifics. It felt rather slow in places, I’ll admit, but it seemed a lot more put together. I felt more, although I still failed to make the deep connection with characters that I had hoped to.

As a whole, it was an interesting read. This book does have a lot going for it, yet it failed to hit the mark for me. As a debut, it was a very interesting read, and I’ll certainly be interested in seeing how the author’s next book plays out.

    S. Jones is off to a fantastic start with her first published novel! The story grabbed my interest right from the first chapter. The characters grabbed my heart and I couldn't wait to see how their love story played out. It was a relaxing and exciting read-a great way to destress! I can't wait to read the next novel by this talented author...Well done!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet romance
Reviewed in the United States on 21 May 2019
I loved how the main characters come together. I love the 6th sense intuition Emily (main character) had and used. Not often enough in writing. Chase (other main character) was shown as a macho, but down to earth kind of guy. This is a sweet romance in which many twist and turns that bring together the lovers. Excellent read and highly recommended

I loved this book I just couldn't put it down! I am sad it got swallowed into the sea of books on my kindle for so long it is a real gem! It's nice to read a story that is so close to reality where everything isn't always perfect and there are arguments, and people are suspicious for a real reason, but the happiness is genuine and the love you read is too. The author did an amazing job and my hat is off to them and I will look forward to reading more this time it will be on the top of my tbr pile.

    3.0 out of 5 stars A freebie and a recommend ..
Reviewed in the United States on 8 October 2017
I miss the freebies good and bad thread. This is my first freebie review since the threads went away.

I liked this story. It has some angst but not too much that it is in your face. There is another woman in the story, but not in a bad way. Let's get to spoilers.

    Spoilers

The H falls hook line sinker for the h from the first time he sees the h at his nightclub. The h just broke up with her boyfriend. She falls for the H soon after. They are crazy about each other. Her best friend later spots him with a date at a work party...a party he did not invite the h to. He told her it was a business party and that she would be bored. She breaks up with him. She later finds out that the other woman is the H's brother's girlfriend. The problem is that his brother is married and has a pregnant wife. The girlfriend is blackmailing the brother and the H had offered to help by pretending he is with the gf so the wife would not be suspicious. The h makes the H choose between her and his brother. She did not want to be the secret gf on the side while he made appearances with the ow in public. He makes the wrong choice and suffers for it. He does a good job pleading his case even with the ow causing problems for both him and his brother.

A good read with 3.5 stars. The H is an uber alpha and the h is not a doormat. The h stood up for herself when she made the H fight for them as a couple. I dinged it because it is told in the first person..the h's view.. and there is no point of view from the H.

Emily and Chase were drawn together from that first moment. Will they let themselvesbe happy or will they choose to put others first? I love how real the characters are and even when life gets in the way they do everything in their power to overcome them!
