Chelsea Tanner’s career as a defence lawyer is rapidly climbing. Her strong ethics and sharp wit in the courtroom has paved her way into becoming an associate of Sydney’s top law firm. She hasn’t lost a single case in her short but successful career. Law is her life, living and breathing it leaves little time for anything more. Pacer Fratelli is dark, hard and completely consumed by his new defence lawyer. Chelsea and Pacer’s worlds couldn’t be further apart but he wants more … and what Pacer wants, Pacer gets.
When bad love feels so good, just how far would you go to defend it?
TJ has crammed a lot of life into her years. Once a cop, now a professional writer, she uses her first hand experience of working the city streets of Sydney to write all things crime in both the news and in her fiction novels. TJ’s head has been buried in crime since studying criminology at university over a decade ago, and she just can’t seem to shake her fascination with the macabre. By day, TJ reports on southwestern Sydney's crime for News Corp, and by night she re-lives the action-packed life she may have once had through her strong fictional characters and sexy stories of mystery and intrigue. In 2015 TJ won the Readers Choice Award for best romantic suspense at Readers and Writer’s Down Under for her novel, Death’s Shadow and went on to win the converted Scarlet Stiletto Award for the Sister’s In Crime Association. Her debut books, Buying Thyme and Finding Thyme were acquired by Harlequin Mira and published in 2015 and 2016.
I'm intrigued by the premise of the story with the heroine being the criminal defense lawyer and the anti-hero who is of course the criminal being charged for homicide.
I want sparks. I want a bit of forbidden romance. I want the heroine to question her integrity. I want the hero to be reserve and professional. I didn't get what I want though.
Pacer Fratelli is the anti-hero that I just couldn't warm up to. I don't get to know much about his past and I don't know his motivation. I'm okay with pushing the hard limits, I had no problem with murderer, but I need to understand his motivation and maybe salvage some redeemable quality in him. But I didn't get it.
And the part that bother me most is his action in the beginning, which never get address even towards the end. His gives me the feeling of being stalkerish and totally creepy. This just wouldn't do. It happened quite early on the story, so I let it pass and see how it is going to get handle later. But no... it was swept under the rug and never brought up again.
Don't let me get started on the heroine. I don't understand why she hates her colleague so much, but get all hots for her criminal client.
I ended up skimming the book until 70% before I decided to call it off.
Paciano Fratelli, aka Pacer, is deadly on many levels but those damn gloves... Let me just say, I might have to order some for my husband and have him try them out on me!!
Pacer comes from a long line of "suspicious people" but the latest crime he is charged with…well, it doesn't look like he’ll be able to get out of it. And that's where Chelsea Tanner comes in; to help him get out of it by being his attorney.
At first glance, Chelsea is affected by Pacer while she tries to keep it professional. But Pacer makes sure to test her limits because he doesn't give a damn that she's his attorney.
As Chelsea keeps working the case for Pacer, he keeps working his case to get Chelsea in his bed as soon as possible. And he will stop at nothing to have her.
Pacer is not only dark, sexy and deliciously naughty but those gloved hands of his make magic happen!! Their first encounter had me squeezing my legs and it was no easy task being at work, trying to keep it professional! Not only does he have those amazing hands, but his mouth (and that "python") had me wishing this was a visual book!
I'm not going to give away much, just know that Defending Pacer is fast-paced, loopholes are thrown in to throw us off and the SEX… My goodness is it hot, raw, dirty and so DELICIOUS!! Oh, and that ending....WOW!!! ~ Kara, 5 Sexy stars
☆ I received an ARC via Give Me Books in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ☆
3.75 stars!!
An interesting romance twist between a top notch lawyer and a man she’s brought in to defend with ties to a notorious and powerful family-- Defending Pacer was all in all a not bad read. I found it likable, with a great blend of forbidden love, moral ethics, hot sex, and going against the grain.
I was inept with how author TJ Hamilton was going to unravel this uncanny and complicated tale, but boy did she pull it off!
Over all, an intriguing take on a convicted murder and the only person who could possibly save him as well as herself.
It has been forever since we have had a new TJ Hamilton book - well, just over 6 months but it feel like forever.
And Defending Pacer was well worth the wait.
Lawyer Chelsea Tanner and career criminal Paciano "Pacer" Fratelli could not be on more opposite sides of the legal fine line.
But what makes them so bad for each other is what makes them so good together.
"The feeling I have for a woman I've just met is beyond my control. I don't know what to do with it. All Iknow is I want her." ~~ Pacer
From the moment they meet, they are consumed by each other - but what lengths will they go to to be together? To defend their feelings for each other.
"Pacer Fratelli is so bad, but the fantasy of him is sublime. I would never, could never be with someone like hin, but the very thought of him..." ~~ Chelsea
While there is plenty attraction and hot sexy action, there is also a lot of funny, sweet moments. I loved seeing the playful, fun side of Pacer. He was great before, but when those moments come out, he is absolutely amazing.
And what that man can do with a leather glove!
There was a secondary character that I just love love loved! Logan - they (yes they, you will get it when you read) are just amazing. I want a Logan in my life.
As with Ms Hamilton's other works, Defending Pacer has a darker undercurrent, showing us the seedier side of Sydney, and it has drawn me right in. It was a rollercoaster of a ride, and I didn't want to get off.
The thought of Pacer's 'member' being broken puts Chelsea on high alert, “he better not be broken! I can’t live with myself if that’s the case. Bring him here and I’ll try to revive him.” I loved seeing the sort of joyful Pacer, the one who is embracing life, "I grin at the phone. I’m not surprised with anything Chelsea tells me anymore. If she says her cousin has balls, I’m sure she means it." I enjoyed Pacer I really loved that man.
TJ Hamilton has been on my tbr for over a year now, I have both ebook and paperback copies of her Thyme Trilogy sitting here, begging me to read them, and I just haven't gotten a chance, when Defending Pacer hit my kindle I was intrigued, the cover definitely has a dark edge to it, I'm generally not a huge lover of dark romance, I'm not ashamed to admit I went in a tad scared...
Pacer Fratelli is all kinds of bad arse anti hero, cold blooded killer no doubt about it, he's definitely not innocent, not by a long shot, growing up the son and nephew of Sydney's criminal underworld Pacer knows more than most about the illicit side of Sydney. He's fought and beaten more charges than even the police and prosecution would like to admit to, but when he's brought up on charges that look set to stick Pacer might finally be facing his come up pence.
Chelsea Tanner is worlds away from Pacer in everyway that seems to count, the daughter of an esteem supreme court judge, a successful defence lawyer in her own right, Chelsea has created a name for herself even with standing her father's illustrious career. Her family has always stood on the right and just side of the law, her career has definitely seen her straddling that line previously but when she meets her new client Pacer Fratelli things become blurred, lines get crossed.
While Defending Pacer started with a slightly darker feel, it was decidedly lighter than I anticipated, part erotic romance part suspense, the dynamic between Pacer and Chelsea is steamy from the outset, whether it was purely animalistic attraction or a recognition of something deeper lurking in their souls, there was a magnetism that intrigued me, making me want to know more, continue reading, sliding into the seedy underbelly of the city I call home.
There's so much at play here in Defending Pacer, Hamilton paints a picture of a modern day Romeo and Juliet in the truest sense of the word, two families at either end of the legal scale, Pacer and Chelsea couldn't be more different in so many ways, but it was the ways in which they were alike that grabbed at my heart. The ways that Chelsea challenged Pacer to think outside of himself and his family, and the way Pacer set Chelsea free of the burden of expectation, of being what she believed her family, her colleagues, the world around her expected of her, allowed her to be truly free was inspired.
I truly loved diving into Defending Pacer, my only pause that held me back from going straight to the five lipsticks was the overuse of a pet name, pet names for me are a tough call, I love and hate them in equal measure, I found myself getting weary of it at times throughout the story, almost blacking it out in my mind. I loved this dirty, dark and sinful man, with his penchant for leather gloves, his wicked tongue and filthy thoughts, balanced perfectly with Chelsea's street smarts and sass, she was strong and sure, she's wasn't afraid to go up against those bigger and scarier than her, and her sense of morality was always present despite being tested. Defending Pacer may have been my first by TJ Hamilton, it certainly won't be my last.
T.J. Hamilton has knocked it out of the park with the story of a hard working lawyer and her sinfully hot client. Who knew how hot a man in leather gloves could be!
Chelsea Tanner is a defence lawyer, working her way up in a career that she has fought so hard to strive in. Her father is a well known retired supreme court judge who has guided her well into the position she is in. Always there to share his wisdom. She hasn't lost a case in her career yet, but when she gets given a client that is up on a murder charge, but also a well known member of an infamous Italian family, Chelsea knows this case is just what she needs to make partner, after all that’s all she has time for in her life, all work and no play.
Pacer Fratelli, is a well known underworld figure. Being linked to one of the most infamous families in Sydney, he needs the best lawyer he can get. But when he comes face to face with Chelsea, he is surprised at who she is. There is an instant connection between the two, and what Pacer wants Pacer gets. Knowing she could be his only chance at freedom and getting off a murder charge, he knows he has to play it cool with her. But what harm does a little flirting do?
“My head knows how wrong he is, but his arms, the tattoos that cover them, his chest, his wicked smile, and leather gloves… who knew men’s gloves were so hot? He floods the receptors in my brain that differentiate the good from the bad.”
Within a short space of time Chelsea and Pacer find themselves alone and their attraction builds. Could she really get involved with a guy who her family so openly refuses? After all it was her father who has sent away some of Pacer’s family to jail. With the paparazzi getting involved, and their friendship caught on camera, Chelsea finds herself under fire from not only her family, but her work. But they don’t know the Pacer she knows. He’s shown her a side to him that she could only dream of in a man. He is spontaneous, and caring and protective. He loves her fiery attitude and her need to defend him.
“ Our kiss in gentle, opposite to the heated kisses from earlier. Our twisting tongues confirm how much trust is between us. I will never give her a reason to not trust me. This is the first time i've been so open with someone. Its a wild feeling, laced with vulnerability. I never want her to know just how undone she makes me.
When Chelsea delves deeper into Pacers case, there is more to his murder conviction than she ever bargained for. It’s not your ordinary murder conviction, it’s so much more.
We cannot wait to read more from this aussie author. Pacer was an intriguing character to read about, from his italian family to his life in the underworld. Chelsea was a surprise, we thought we had her pegged from the beginning but Pacer really brought out the best in her.
This was our first book by TJ Hamilton and it won’t be our last.
Defending Pacer 4.5 stars by T.J. Hamilton Chelsea Tanner’s is about to take on the biggest case of her life. She remains unblemished in the courtroom; no one can beat her. Her defense is always spot on allowing her clients to walk away from the charges. Its in her blood. Her father raised her within the law while holding prestigious seat as a judge. Not riding by on his name she has clawed her way to the top in one of the most powerful law firms in Sydney. She has briefly looked over Pacer Fratelli’s case. Accused of not only murdering Sean Colllins, son of a wealthy mining magnate, the crime scene photos showed a massacre. His dismembered body were some of the most graphic photos she has ever seen.
Known member of the Legano family, Pacer Fratelli is questioning what kind of hot shot lawyer is now 20 minutes late. When Hangcock and Sons regretted to inform the Legano’s they would no longer represent them his family assured him the new hire was the best. The sweet “honeybee” sitting in front of him in her boring brown suit and her boring up-do bun on her head has Pacer wondering all kinds of things until the little spitfire sitting in front of him all but admonishes him back in his place. If Miss Tanner thinks he is a man to give up so easily; she is sadly mistaken. He knows the charges wont stick; they never do but nothing will please Pacer more than to see how good Chelsea Tanner is. Jackson Reed is the prosecution. He will put Pacer Fratelli away if it’s the only thing he does in his career. He will put him behind bars if it’s the last thing he ever does on this earth. This story is absolutely fantastic! The Legano/Fratelli family is a true Italian gem of a group which I enjoyed getting to know. I loved the interaction between them. I don’t want to say too much about the plot but I can tell you one of the reasons I loved this book was because the female lead is strong, brilliant and holds her own. Chelsea is driven to make some choices that she does not want to make but being who she is raised by whom she was doing what she had to was never not in the cards. There are some heavy plot twists in Defending Pacer. Its not a heavy read but there is just enough there to know what kind of man Pacer is. I loved him! Tatted up and working his dang hot but … yup! His leather gloves become a signature piece in the story line. WOWZA! Click this one up ladies. Quick easy read that is smoking good. No cliffhangers! YAY! I will be waiting for the next release Miss T. J.!
Top book of 2015. This book totally rocked my world. I devoured it in one sitting and was sad when it was over. Pacer and Chelsea will grab you from the beginning and won't let go until the end. Not only was this book sexy, it was also sweet, fun, suspenseful and had quite a few twists along the way. This book has murder, mystery and tons of steam to appeal to most romance readers. This author is new to me and I will definitely be coming back for more in the future.
This is Pacer and Chelsea's story. Being part of the notorious Legano crime family comes with its perks. But when one of the infamous bad boys is arrested, Chelsea will have to pull out the big guns to get him off. Pacer is everything Chelsea shouldn't want. No matter that they live on opposite ends of the law and their families don't get along, getting involved with a client is a no-no. But the temptation of Pacer and his gloved hands is too much. Pacer wants Chelsea and will stop at nothing to make her his, no matter if she is his defense attorney. Chelsea can't deny the simmering attraction she feels for Pacer but he is her client and she has to walk carefully. These two are in the fight of their lives against their families and corrupt "good guys". Can they win it all... the case and love?
I. Loved. Pacer.... like seriously he is MINE! The man was so sinfully delicious and so bad that it made his appeal that much more. He was naughty, sexy, sweet, hard, and totally unrelenting. I admired his tenacity to not give up on Chelsea even when she would withdraw. And Chelsea... love her. She was strong, smart, and sexy which was exactly what Pacer needed. Between the sheets.. these two were sizzling! What is it about the gloves??!!
That ending.... was perfect for them. I know there will be some critics that probably don't like the way it will end BUT... for Chelsea and Pacer it was almost expected and what they needed. I am hoping we get stories of some of the other Legano family men from this book.
I will buy any book related to the mafia/mob in a hot second. However, I'm learning not every author can captivate and lead the reader into the "life" through their book. This story missed it badly I’m sad to report.
The story line is great and I was truly excited in the beginning. Pacer is high up in the food chain in the Fratelli mob family. He is accused of a gruesome murder. After firing his current barrister, Chelsea is hired as Pacer’s new barrister. Initially Chelsea is introduced as strong, no nonsense, one of the best if not the best in her field. However, in the space of their initial meeting Chelsea is reduced to an empty head, tongue tied, blubbering idiot without the slightest inkling of self- control.
I’m all for finding romance with odds against the “couple”, but this affair did not progress and had absolutely zero challenge. Pacer was not portrayed as an alpha male (isn’t that a requirement for the mob?). He was portrayed as a hormonal adolescent who broke into his barrister’s house (Chelsea) and masturbated/spilled on her sheets because he couldn’t control himself. Uh……ewwwwwwwww! I’m all for kink but not lame stuff, especially from someone in the mob!
Although I rarely offer a one star for a story, this story deserved it hands down.
Pacer is accused of murder. And he did it. He even told that to his hotshot lawyer. But she's determined to get him off. Maybe in more ways then one. But they have to get over the families hatred of each other.
I wanted to like this book. I really did. And I liked all the elements of it. Pacer is funny in a twisted way, Chelsea is smart and determined and even the secondary cast is intriguing. Even the story is there. But after about 50% it felt rushed, like everything happened off page and you just heard about it. And the ending was perdictable. If you're a fan of star crossed lover fan then this will be the book for you. Sadly I just wasn't a huge fan.
I seem to be in a mafia phase at the moment so this was the perfect next read. It started off fantastically, both legal elements and mafia elements, seemed like my perfect read. The story almost lost me about 1/3rd of the way through, some of the hotter scenes seemed a bit over the top for me but it quickly got my attention back. The story continued to keep me hooked throughout, the only other thing i would rather would have been without the extended epilogue, i would have been hapier for it to end at the end of the end of the first epilogue but thats just my personal preference.
This was an enjoyable read. I loved that the H was so obsessed with the h. They made a great couple. I was not a fan of the whole gloves fetish or the ending. There was a HEA but certain characters burned bridges with the main characters and I was disappointed by that.
Good Romeo and Juliet style story with a satisfying ending. Very possessive hero, insta-love, the end and how the plot with the villain was handled felt rushed. Good writing style, both POVs, present tense, some typos. The steamy parts were well done.
I don't think this was the right time for me to read this book. It wasn't great, it wasn't bad. I just had trouble connecting to the characters. I might go back and read this at a future time, but at this time, it was just okay.
You’re just like a honeybee, and I’ve got plenty of pollen for you to suck, my little harvester.... I stopped reading after this... yes that's right it is right at the beginning of the book.
The girl changed from tough to innocent- did not like this part. I expected more dirty talk and roughness. Both characters changed too suddenly giving the book Harlequin feel.
So this read was a difficult one as at first, as I really did not like Pacer one bit... TJ has written Pacer as a gritty no holds barred gangster, with no hint of remorse to what he does... and some of his actions were at my limit of 'OK'.
He want's what he wants's and he gets it his way, and at first his way really - I mean REALLY freaked me out! I have notes on my kindle saying...??? ... omg did he really just think that!!! ... OMG he didnt just do that did he!!!!
BUT I know TJ has a gritty side, she tells it how it is, and because I loved her other series I continued... SO PLEASE if you buy and start reading... and get to that point too, my advise is Carry On, you will be glad to push through the initial 'OMG' moments.
Now Chelsea POV was much easier on the moral compass - shes a woman that has lived and breathed Law all her life, the only daughter of a Supreme Court Judge, her Mother an Editor... she is focused, determined and wins in court, But Defending Pacer is going to turn out to be her most difficult decision she will ever make. I mean she is going to have to either follow her heart or her family's ways, and its a big choice to make.
By 39% I was getting hooked and did not want to put the book down..Ms Hamilton Blew my Panties off!!!
As Chelsea delves into the details of the case against Pacer, we begin to see that there is more to this case than a Gangster murder, Yes Pacer is a 'What you see is what you get, Full on Mafia Killer', but above all he is an Italian Gangster... Loyalty , Familia, these are the True Beliefs that Pacer lives by. He is the head of the 'Family Business', but if you cross him - its the last thing you will do, and you will regret it... VERY SLOWLY and VERY PAINFULLY!
As Chelsea begins to piece the conspiracy together shes also having to deal with the combustion of the fierce attraction she has towards Pacer.
ITS RED HOT... They are like two planets gravitating towards each other... and when they collide, you see stars, heck you see the frigging BIG BANG!!!
So As I said... By 39% I was glued to my kindle, matchsticks on eyes until the wee hours, and then up at dawn reading on!
I am a romantic at heart, I do read Dark Romance, but they need to have a good chunk of Romance & HEA in the horizon, and I would like to say THANK YOU TJ for giving such a great ending... you scared me for a few seconds... well until I turned the page!
If you haven't read TJ Hamilton before, The Thyme series will soon be on a bookshelf near you - THAT series is AWESOME - Do not Pass it up, and if you can't wait - grab the prequel on your kindle along with this book for some Hot Aussie Reading.
ps sorry for all the !!! but it was one of those books that deserves lots of !!!! :D
"I'm the city's most hated crook, and she's pretty much its favourite daughter."
Chelsea Tanner is a tough, no nonsense defense attorney but her newest client Pacer Fratelli is about to turn her world upside down. Pacer has been charged with murder and it is up to Chelsea to make sure that all the of the evidence is accurate and that her client has been properly charged.
These two are from different sides of the law, different backgrounds, and different sides of the water. Both have lived privileged lives but in very different ways. While one was concentrating on their grades the other was in and out of the law's cross-hairs. But sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Is Pacer really all bad? Is Chelsea all lawyer?
"But the fact is, we are and will always be, two very different people from opposites sides of the street."
Chelsea comes from a line of well respected citizens but she finds the good in everything. Pacer lives his life by giving balance to the city, just not always in the most upstanding way. Underneath the nickname and leather gloves, he has passion. While at first comes across as creepy stalker, eventually turns into fierce protectiveness.
The lines between professionalism and passion quickly become blurred and Chelsea is likely to find herself in the middle of something a whole lot bigger than her case. The chemistry between these two was instantly evident, not only to the reader but also each other. Their desire is insatiable but bound to cause problems. Will they choose want? Or what they are supposed to have?
"But I know there's more to him. His dark eyes spoke to me. They mainly wanted me to undress, but there's something in me that wants to protect him."
This story was decent. The pace was good and their was enough going on to keep my attention. I am not personally a fan of insta-love and I thought there would be more...something. Some things were resolved a little too easily for me and I felt like I was lacking some true depth into the characters, I felt like I wanted more out of Pacer, more understanding into his less than stellar past and maybe some deeper feelings from him in the present. Over all it was pretty good read and I would read more from this author.
I have to say I absolutely love the cover, it just screams at you, but sadly it’s probably the only thing that I really loved about this book. I’ve never read TJ Hamilton before and I was really looking forward to this. The synopsis made it sound like it was going to be a really intriguing read. And everyone knows by now that I love my organised crime books. I really do have mixed feelings about this book.
Characters were ok, and just that….ok. At first I was getting all excited at Pacer, the persona he exudes but it began to wear a little thin for me pretty quickly. I didn’t really see that much development in his character and he felt extremely two dimensional. I felt like I got half a character and not much else. Yeah, bad boy he was but I think I could have done without his little “thoughts” that popped into his head. They grated on me after a while. And I couldn’t get the words “stalker” and “creep” out of my head, it left me feeling uncomfortable on many occasions. These are not really words that an author should want associated with her main character, it’s not endearing whatsoever. Then we have Chelsea, totally the opposite end of the scale and I felt her character was well developed and relatable, I really enjoyed reading her character. She wasn’t this intimidated pushover that I so often come across. Neither characters were “broken” in that sense and I did like that. I also really enjoyed the familial element, it’s explored a fair bit in Defending Pacer, I think it brought a more emotional element to the story that perhaps would have been lacking otherwise.
I think the plot line was ok, it didn’t shine for me the same way that perhaps other similar storylines have. It’s interesting and written quite well but unfortunately it’s a book I could take or leave. There’s some witty and humorous banter in the book that had me laughing, and some really, really erotic scenes but it really wasn’t enough to carry the book. I also found the “vagina bacon” too weird I’m afraid, I’m no prude but that just felt a tad ridiculous. I liked it but that was it. I’d still read TJ Hamilton’s work again though as I did enjoy her style.
This book had more depth than you would think. A great read with very interesting characters. Proving you have to look deeper to see the true person inside.
Chelsea is an associate of Sydney’s top law firm and she has just been given the case of a lifetime if she has any hope of getting Pacer Fratelli a member of the infamous Legano family off a murder charge – whether he is guilty or not. She is the best at what she does, a very observant, strong willed, level headed women. Until the moment Pacer walks into her office that is and turns her whole world upside down.
Pacer previous lawyer has decided to no longer defend his family or his case so he has been passed over to a new firm where he is waiting for his new ‘hotshot’ lawyer to make an appearance. Twenty minutes late and he is starting to get a bit annoyed, that is until he see’s who he thinks is the hotshot’s sexy secretary. He is beyond surprised to find out that she is in fact the hotshot barrister that he has a meeting with. Once he gets a good look at his barrister he knows he wants her. With what she wears he thinks of her as his honeybee and all he can think about is getting a taste of how sweet she will be.
The murder charge doesn’t seem to bother Pacer, he knows it won’t stick; all he can think about is getting closer to Chelsea. The more time that they spend together to harder it is for Chelsea to deny the sexy chemistry between them. She has never wanted someone so bad in her life and when he wears those leather gloves it takes a great effort to not jump him. She wasn’t looking for love and being involved with a client is a very bad thing. But when being bad feels this good she ceases to care.
With a murder charge hanging over Pacer’s head, danger lurking from corrupt cops and their families on the wrong side of each other it will take a lot to get them to where they want to be – in each others arms from here on out for good.
Chelsea Tanner is a barrister with her own set of balls. She’s tough, she’s never lost a case and she’s now staring down her opportunity to secure a partnership at her firm.
And his name is Paciano Fratelli.
On trial for murder, it’s no secret that Paciano (“Pacer”) has everything but clean hands. Associated with one of the biggest crime families in Sydney, Pacer needs Chelsea to keep him out of prison. But to the two of them, his trial isn’t the only obstacle they’ll face.
“It’s a wild feeling, laced with vulnerability. I never want her to know just how undone she makes me.”
It most of our coveted smut dramas, you have a good guy and a bad guy. But what happens when those lines get so hazy you don’t know who is good or bad anymore?
You get this hot little number.
It’s no secret that I hate when you can predict story lines (and their impending obstacles) from the get-go. Chelsea and Pacer kept me guessing to the very end (that ending though!!)
“But with her, it’s different. I want to love her. I need to lover her, and i’m going to love her.”
Here are my main reasons for loving this story: 1) It isn’t just her: I loved that Pacer was just as unraveled as Chelsea was. I don’t want to hear how torn apart she is about loving someone with a dark past, I want to know he’s just as confused by his sudden and fierce attraction to Chelsea. 2) Blurred lines between good and evil: Yes, Pacer is a known murderer. Yes, Chelsea works for the law. But despite the obvious, both of them have to deal with the good guy being bad, and a bad guy wanting to do the right thing. 3) Unpredictability: I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop and boy did it! Never underestimate the power of a solid epilogue (and post-epilogue!)
“She does something to me—stirs a fire inside me, and I never handle fire very well.”
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting to like this story as much as I did. I was prepared for something dark and twisted and what I got was so much more than a sketchy fairy tale.
“I search within his eyes. I’m not asking him if he loves me too. I’m never going to be one of those girls who actually has to ask. Keep your dignity, Chelsea. I kiss him back, his tongue working perfectly as my distraction. I feel him try his best to pull back but I don’t allow it and kiss him harder.”
4 stars, while this story is full romance and sex, there are some seriously funny moments as well! I really had a hard time not loving this book!! Such a great read!
When a member from the infamous Legano Family is up on a murder charge, Chelsea finds more.
Pacer Fratelli is dark, hard and completely consumed by his new defence lawyer. Chelsea and Pacer’s worlds couldn’t be further apart but he wants more … and what Pacer wants, Pacer gets.
When bad love feels so good, just how far would you go to defend it?
Chelsea is an up and coming defense attorney. She’s a strong minded woman and beyond smart which has helped her pave the way in the law firm she works for. She’s never lost a case and she’s excited about this. In walks Pacer Fratelli a member of the Legano Family. He’s been convicted of murder and Chelsea has been chosen as his defense attorney. She is way to busy to find time for love, but the minute she sees Pacer, things get complicated. This book was such a joy to read. There were serious moments and funny ones. Great story!!

My BWBFF absolutely nagged me to read TJ Hamilton's Thyme series. she told me how wonderful the stories were and how Hamilton's engaging writing style and brilliant characters had her hooked and crying for then in big hysterically ugly crying. I dutifully took my BFF's emotional and passionate critique with due notice. Flash forward, and whilst Defending Pacer *spoiler alert* has no moments to induce snivelling sobs, I find myself ADDICTED to TJ Hamilton. Hamilton writes about my home city of Sydney Australia as the setting for her story. Her characters are enigmatic, polar opposites and I was not sure if I loved or hated Pacer Fratelli in the beginning, but by the end of the story it was clear - what's nt to love about him. Hamilton weaves her tale with clever plot twists, and some hot and intimate scenes. I found Pacer's scoping out of his "Honeybee's" unit very alpha, possessive and well written. I note that Hamilton has talked about the notion of finding forgiveness and redemption and it was captivating and compelling to read how she explored these themes with the main and peripheral characters in the book. I found Hamilton's writing style left me captivated and compelled to binge read on the story and I completed it in record time, but left feeling satisfied, rather than experiencing a book hangover. Hamilton covered a lot of ground in Defending Pacer and I feel she concluded appropriately giving the story justice and leaving the reader satisfied. Love! Love! Love it.
I absolutely loved this book. It was one hell of a story!! I have read a lot of TJ Hamilton’s books and this one did not disappoint at all. Granted it is somewhat dark but there is humour, hotness and some really great characters with a very interesting storyline. Chelsea Tanner is a barrister and is representing Pacer in a case against him. She uncovers some rather interesting things through getting to know Pacer as well as his family and delving into his past. Not all is what it seems though. She is incredibly determined. Underneath we get a sense that Pacer, although a very bad boy, he truly is a man that goes after and gets what he wants. Pacer loves his family, has a things for gloves and oh my…what he can do with them…but you get to know why he uses them and in what way, when you read the book you will understand. Yes you will. Pacer was hard not to like….especially with the naughty thoughts in his head, lol. The way he treated Chelsea, his family ties and his charm made him an extremely lovable character. You could feel their attraction to each other coming through and when they are together, its sizzling!! I really liked Chelsea, the way she handled herself and her dedication to her job. I also loved her cousin Logan, who always told it like it is and had Chelsea’s back. I really enjoyed the way the story ended too. This is a book you should put in your TBR list. Well done TJ, can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeve for us next!!
