Legally Mine (Spitfire Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 3,270 ratings

What’s the point of falling in love if it only breaks your heart?

I should be flying high. I’ve graduated from the best law school in the world, and I’m ready to start my career. So why do I feel like I’m holding the world on my shoulders instead of standing on top of it?

Oh, right. Him.

Bad boy. Billionaire. Larger-than-life Brandon Sterling. In a few short months, he became the sun to my universe, only to flip it upside down and inside out, leaving me to make the biggest decision of my life alone.

I don’t want to miss him like I do. I don’t want to love him like I do.

So the question is, when he comes back––if he comes back––will he forgive me for what I’ve done?

I adore the Spitfire series. This book is a brilliant addition and definitely left me wanting more of Brandon and Skylar's story.

French weaves an intriguing tale but the events are so raw and real that they leave you aching as if they are happening themselves. You feel Skylar's doubts along with her.

I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

I really loved the first book, but I have to be honest, I didn’t get the same feels on this one. it’s because the plot sags a bit in this one and I lost a certain amount of empathy for Skylar.

So we’re straight into some heavy angst and I should give warnings about abortion. It could have been gut wrenching, but somehow it didn’t quite touch me as deeply as I would have expected. The thing I didn’t understand was why Skylar didn’t speak to someone. She made the decision all on her own, despite having supportive family members and a good friend who she could have talked to. While I liked her desire to solve her problems herself in the first book, here it felt like too much, like she went through the whole thing alone out of stubbornness. Plus, I’m not one for not telling baby daddies about their potential offspring, regardless of the circumstances, but that’s just my personal opinion.

So, after loving Skylar in the last book, her actions at the start tainted my feelings about her. We just know Brandon’s going to flip if he ever finds out, which I suppose is excellent foreshadowing on the part of the author. However, it makes Skylar a bit of a hypocrite after she walked away, claiming she couldn’t have a relationship with someone who kept secrets. We also later find out that she did discuss it with her best friend, but this dialogue seems to have been cut from the story and I can’t understand why. If I had more insight into Skylar’s internal battle, and what she went through while making the decision, I may have felt more empathy for her.

While the author touches on the emotions involved regarding the abortion, and it’s not handled insensitively, I wanted it to be deeper and I felt it should take more recovery time both physically and mentally. It was like Skylar made the decision, cried and mourned for a few hours, then it was done and behind her. Then she drags out telling him, and kept rolling my eyes at every attempt where she had the chance, but chickened out.

As a result of not being fully behind the characters in this one, I noticed a lot more things that I overlooked in the first book. There’s lots of unnecessary repetition of backstory. I’m not talking about just stuff from the first book, but stuff that’s repeatedly mentioned in this book alone. There’s also some nibbling proofreading errors and questionable plotting.

The middle sagged as Skylar drew out telling him the truth. The author also loves a huge description dump whenever there’s a new location. Again, this didn’t bother me so much in the first book because the pace remained brisk. In this one, the format got a bit dull to the point where I felt like skipping those paragraphs to get back to the action and dialogue.

I can’t say I didn’t enjoy this book, but I didn’t love it as much as the first one. The heat levels are just as high and steamy, and there’s plenty of sexy times. I just didn’t feel the same buzz as the story continued. I will read the final book, but I’m not sure if I will jump straight in this time.

I love this book, even more than the first which I didn't think was possible. I have fallen in love with Brandon and can't wait to read the third book to see what happens for him and Skylar. An amazing story and I highly recommend it.

Wow, this is an entertaining, enjoyable and thoroughly HOT trilogy. I love it! The storyline is interesting with plenty of saucy bits too.

I loved the first book and had high hopes for this trilogy, but was disappointed in book 2. I think some of the problem was with our female lead Skylar, I didn't want to her to the first book and she really got on my nerves in this one. Yes Brandon
could be over baring and protective and he's he had money that he wanted to indulge Skylar in nice things and help her and her family out, she wanted to be Brandon so take the whole package a stop whining about it. Also what she did without telling him was the biggest secret and her she punishes him for keeping secrets, double standard girl! But what this book did which it didn't in book one was to take a similar storyline to 50 Shades, we exes, and dramas at functions and the bedroom. And the ending was too similar to 50 Shades so much so I won't get the third even though I want to know how it pans out and if it carries on in the same vein.

2nd book in a series I can't stop reading. Wow. The ups and downs, the betrayals, the unseen twists all make this series fantastic. Well worth giving it a read.

Make sure you've read the first before reading my review *

Super annoying that through the entire book we are waiting for her to tell Brandon what she did, and I suppose you can expect what happens...at the god damn end.

It really annoyed me. At one point she goes to tell him (over half way through the book) and then something happens and she doesn't. I had to put my kindle down and I didn't read it for days it annoyed me that much.

    *spoilers*

The reactions at the end annoyed me too. The only person on her side was her friend. Everyone shamed her and she was apologising profusely for having an abortion. The way everyone made her feel...including Brandon was heartbreaking.

In the end it seems he may come around, that he can forgive her because he loves her more than anything, but jeez. Ends on a cliffhanger, but the way this book dragged out has me taking a break from the series. I'll definitely be buying the third soon though!

While my review does seem negative overall...its actually a great story. Slow in places, and annoying as hell when she doesnt tell him. But past all that it is a great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Overwhelming!

All I wanna say is Skylar has some major issues with affection and love that's why she took off and even aborted her baby. She should have told Brandon. She was selfish for a reason but selfish nonetheless. Her kidnapping was just a blessing in disguise for her relationship with Brandon.

Book 2 introduces Skylar’s mom, stepdad & their kids. Jared and his smarmy self is still in the friend zone. Jane & Erik will hopefully get their own books and tales of how goth & man-whore find a happy medium. Bubbe & Pips’s Dad aren’t at the forefront of Legally Mine, but they are still woven in the background. Miranda will hopefully get the boot in book 3. Then there is Red, all her secrets and an ending I didn’t see coming.

The storytelling is phenomenal! There’s mystery, spicy sex scenes, pull on your heartstrings moments, blackmail, beautiful destinations described so well you can imagine being there. The Cape destination made we want to plan a girls trip! Lol.

Plan on several nights or an entire weekend of uninterrupted bliss and the Spitfire series to ignore household chores, life & delve deep into the world of Harvard Law Graduate Skylar.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!!!
Reviewed in Australia on 29 April 2018
Although I usually find the second book in a trilogy slow going, this was not the case when it came to Legally Mine, the second book in the Spitfire Series. Why? I’ll try to explain.
There are different elements to a story and although some elements are stronger, they all play important part. Nicole French’s writing makes every part shine. Not only did I become involved in the story, but I was desperate to know how it would play out. I didn’t feel like I was treading water during this second book. I was riding the waves, but there were a few riptides pulling me back. This story was not boring.
The characters were a strong part of the story and I loved the major characters, Skylar and Brandon. I wanted them to have their happy ever-afters, but they also annoyed me. You know the feeling you get when you want to take a character to the side and give them advice? Yeah, that happened on more than one occasion. But there were also characters I hated even though their parts in Skylar’s and Brandon’s story were important.
Did it end on a cliff hanger? Yes, it did but I already had the third book in the series on my kindle ready to go so I wasn’t hyperventilating.
