4.5 'Family' First Stars
Angelo Moretti is my type, a little troubled, dark, mysterious and just enough alpha. Anthony Depalma the head of the 'family' pulls Angelo out of a crappy situation when he was a child and raised him as his own. Since then Angelo has been loyal to the 'family'.
Emerson is at college working towards a Law degree she doesn't want. her parents expect only the best from her, as soon as they realised she was intelligent they had her life mapped out. Unfortunately that mapped out life doesn't include dance which is Emerson's first love.
Emerson and her sister find themselves in the middle of a revenge attack against the 'family' and they don't even know it. Something heartbreaking happens which forces secrets out, but how will Emerson react when she finds out the truth?
When everything has been revealed to Emerson she realises how much danger she is in and welcomes the security her uncle puts on her. It doesn't hurt that it's Angelo the super hot, dark and mysterious man she'd run into before at one of her uncles parties.
I loved the journey these two went on together. While Angelo helped Emerson find her inner strength to become the person she wanted to be, Emerson helped Angelo by showing him that he is worth loving and is more than a heartless killer.
I liked all the characters and I was hoping that one character in particular would be the next story but after that twist toward the end I am thinking that's not going to happen. Would I have liked more 'family' stuff or action? Sure, but I really liked what I did get.
Man that epilogue was intense!! I will definitely be keeping my eye out for the next one. 🤓

Família. Crueldade. Sofrimento. Angústia. Traição. Vingança.
Há tempos eu não ficava tão presa a um livro envolvendo mafiosos. Uma boa parte dos que eu já li apenas abordam o tema superficialmente, um background somente pra desenrolar um romance.
E não foi isso que vi aqui, graças a Deus!!!!

Eu adorei a Emerson e como ela foi crescendo durante o desenrolar da história, sem muito mimimi e sem muita chatice.
Ameiiii com força o Angelo, que não mudou drasticamente sua personalidade ao decorrer da trama, claro que algumas minúsculas mudanças são perceptíveis, porém achei ele bem fiel a si mesmo e a família, do início ao fim. Homens desse mundo vivem por suas próprias regras e seus códigos de honra. O que torna impossível mudar da noite pro dia a forma como aquela pessoa viveu praticamente a vida toda e ainda bem que a autora respeitou isso.

Sobre a escrita e narrativa da autora? Fluída, envolvente e me cativou desde a primeira página até a última!!! Não consegui desgrudar os olhos desse livro, não queria que terminasse!

second, it was an okay read, dark mafia romance..
this is the first read for me by this author...
only thing I was wondering...which is not a first for me...
when we have this character that is oppressed, and then they just suddenly are not that anymore...hello backbone here I am all badass and shit...that transition is so rarely well done...

I don't know what I was expecting. But this book ruined me. It had absolutely everything and more that I loved in a Mafia romance. I'll be watching this author a bit more closely from now on.

“You fight, and you breathe, and you love.”
You don't end a story like that and expect your readers to be just okay with it. Because what. In. The. Actual. Fuck!
The emotions, the feels, the numbness, everything. Just fuck everything!
Anywho, going back (trying to calm myself here fyi), I'm quite picky with my mafia. Some stories are mostly same old same old, as is with experience with unknown authors to me, but this is a different case.
Sophie and Emerson lived a life of pressure and expectation from their father to do best and be what he wanted them to be. Sophie however, may have lived the life she want, being in the spotlight and doing something she love while Emerson is stuck with having her passion pushed aside so she could pursue being a lawyer, the dream of her father for her.
However, life took turns that was unexpected and soon, the life and the blood running through their veins have haunt them down and rained terrors and nightmares that you've wished would never touch you.
Angelo lived through hell before he was given a chance at a real family, where he was given a second chance to gain loyalty, family and respect. Not much could faze him, except Emerson who had crack the stoic man.
The torture, the bloodlust, revenge, lies and deceit have givrn me a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Because ohemgee!! I love it i love it i love it!
My heart hurt still but I guess its for the best. Cryptic much? Hehe.
And although I like Angelo, my main man is Giovanni. He's such a pyscho or maybe a sadistic bastard, but argh, I want to see or read some emotions from him! Other than glee and a sadistic high and enjoying and inflicting pain.
There are so much to this story and I'm just right here, with my heart still beating, wanting for more.
The only drawback for me here was some parts that I'm not a fan of. Like a story of a past, because even if i know it is essential in the character development, its juat that I'm not a fan of it. And the other one would be Emerson's passion for dancing. Angelo seeing her dance could perfectly describe her passion for it, but I wanted to feel it. That tingling in my blood and the rush of adrenaline when I get lost in the rythm of the music and just feel. Emerson's experience for me was more think rather than it making me feel.
Over all though, I can't wait to explore more from this author. I love how everything didn't just fall into place and that there was graphic description of everything, the spilled blood and the screams as well me being blindsided by the twist in the story!

November 26, 2018DNF@53% So several days ago I read my first book by Addison Jane that I enjoyed so much I decided to read something else by her. Mafia romance is one of my favorite genres to read but unfortunately this one didn't work for me at all and at this point I'm done wasting time. First I'm not feeling a connection with either Angelo or Emerson not even sexual tension, it's just flat to me. Second I find Emerson childish and naïve and not in a cute way more like annoying. Although this one didn't work I do plan to read another book by this author.

Angelo was an asshole. Nothing he did was unforgivable. It wasn't that bad, but I hated it that he goaded Emerson into coping with a tragic event. The way he treated her could have made her worse instead of helping her. Then again I'm not sure how much he did help her. She became more empowered but lost her ability to truly care about people in the process. The drastic shift in her personality happened way too quickly to be believable IMO. Good mafia drama though.

Anyone who knows me KNOWS that mafia stories are my jam! And dark mafia stories? Good Lord sign me up!! I absolutely FLOVED this book!! And hello - where has this author been? How have I never heard of her? She legit rocked my world with this book! (Thank you once again GMB!) I loved Angelo and Emerson so so hard. Their passion was intense and their chemistry combustible. Angelo was so protective, strong and so dedicated to Emerson and his family that I could not get enough of him and this book. I absolutely loved it and OMG ...the last few chapters.. HOLY PLOT TWIST, Batman. My mind was Blown!!! Gahh what an incredible story. I need MORE now!!

I absolutely loved this book. I loved that it was about La Cosa Nostra and very family oriented but I just fell in love with Angelo for systematically doing anything he could think to bring Emerson back to the land of the living after her traumatic ordeal. More so, he wanted her pain and sadness to be transformed into bloodlust, a need for revenge and the catalyst she needed to finally be strong enough to stand up for herself, her wants and desires.
I was absolutely enthralled with this book. I love that Angelo brought out Emerson's sassy and defiant side. He pushed internal buttons in her she didn't know she had and brought out that inner tigress in her and the need to challenge him. Likewise, she was the only woman that could bring him to his knees. She became his exception and a pillar of strength for him when the man beyond the hardened Mafia Capo exterior needed support. GAHHH I love this book!! They were perfect for each other and that TWIST!!? OMG. #mindblown. I can't wait for more.from this author in this series! 5 Amazing Stars! ~Ratula

Angst. Mishap. Betrayal. Family BS. The drama never ends! I walked away from this story several times because I didn't want it to end. Oh yeah and some scenes are so friggin intense I had heart palpitations!!! Whyyyyyy did this story have to end???!!!
You're gonna fly through this story because it's soooo good. Like me you're probably gonna have to read it again to absorb every detail while frolicking in the juicy goodness!

What a way for Emmerson to learn about her family history! I hated what she and her sister had to go through, it was horrible for both of them. Emmerson had to live with things afterwards, it was a good thing that she had Angelo by her side. He was able to show her things about her heritage, good and bad, things that she could live with and things she'd rather not know. By the end of the book things were more settled for her and she was ready to start a new adventure in her life with Angelo by her side.

I love Addison Jane and once I heard that she was writing a Depalma family series I could not wait to get my greedy hands on it then devour it . When angels seek chaos really hit me emotionally my heart not only broke for the hero and heroine but also some secondary characters . Once you have the book in your kindle it is impossible to put it down even though at times it felt like I needed to take a break and regroup I couldn't stop myself from turning my kindle right back on . Angelo and Emerson grew up very different and are drawn together in such a sad way , they had such a intense attraction to one another it couldn't be denied or fought very long . Emerson is such a strong heroine even in the beginning she really doubted herself but with the help of the hero and herself she grew and found the fire that lay dormant waiting to be released . Angelo Angelo Angelo what can I say about this hero hmmmm it took some time to warm up to him but in the end I really loved him and how protective and loving he became . They learned a lot from one another and help one grow more as the story progressed . Ok and with ending like that Addison leaves us wanting more such a major tease love it can't wait .

"When you're with me, everything is one way...my fucking way."
When I decided to read When Angels Seek Chaos, it was because of the author. I really enjoyed her The Club Girl Diaries series. So, I figured that if she can write a good badass biker, imagine how good her alpha mafia capo might be. Good is an understatement as shown by my five star rating. It has only whetted my appetite for more Depalma Family series, especially after the epilogue that gave me a glimpse of what I have to look forward to.
When I read the synopsis, I had no clue what to expect as far as her world being torn apart before her eyes. But now that I've read it, I can say that's an understatement. I may have only been reading words on a page, but I felt her pain. I understood her rage. I became her cheering squad. I was ready to load some shovels in the trunk and offer my services.
When I met Angelo, it was the younger version of himself. I also felt his pain. It was easy to understand how he ended up where he did. "He wasn't a bad boy. He was the bad boy. He was a respected member of the Depalma Family and people both loved and hated him depending on which side they were standing on. The family took care of their own, but don't cross the line. "I dare you." I might be a boring law abiding citizen, but while reading this amazing book I confess I became blood thirsty and ready for some revenge.
I'm also guilty of some mental matchmaking. And yes, I did some mental undressing too. There's just so many layers when a sexy man is wearing an expensive suite, and Angelo wore the hell out of his expensive suits. Sometimes he did sexy things without even taking off the expensive suit. And did I mention that he was a bossy boss in and out of the bedroom? And then there's his Italian accent when he calls her Bella...sigh. Yeah, Angelo is all that. But while he may be irresistible in all those areas, can she handle all the other sides of him? He reminds her that, "Just because a bad man does good things, doesn't make him a good man, Bella." He made sure that she saw his dark side. Would her desire for retribution be strong enough that she would go there too?
What? Just because I tell you all the sexy stuff doesn't mean I'm gonna spoil the story for you. Nope, you need to dive into this adrenaline rush that will blow your mind when you least expect it. You need to wait and wonder and worry just like I did. That's part of the experience and you don't want to miss a minute of it. I can't wait for the next installment. The line forms here...

Estou apaixonadaaaaa e me perguntando pq demorei tanto pra ler esse livro.
Comecei ele pensando vou ler só um capítulo antes de dormir, e aqui estou eu sem dormir pq um capítulo se tornou o livro inteiro.
Estou apaixonada pela garra de Emerson e pela forma que ela foi fazendo da dor algo pra crescer.
Angelo PQP, é aquele mafioso que realmente adoro ler, nada de se apaixonar e virar um bundão, ele é o que é e deixa isso claro.
A história foi tão fluída e os personagens tão cativantes que acabei querendo mais deles.
E agr já quero Gio kkkkk.
Amei, e tava com saudade de ler um livro de máfia, onde os personagens não mudam por amor e se transformam em bundões, mas que mostram o que realmente são, pq aqui, a família vem sempre em primeiro lugar.

Great Read
This is the first book I have read of Addison's and I am not disappointed. I was invested with these characters straight away and could not put the book down.
Angelo, Emerson were great main characters and the side ones were interesting also. Well written with action, revenge, love and betrayal.
My only concern was this was written in 2017 and there hasn't been anymore books written in this series which is a major shame as the ending was set up for a second book which has never come.

Amazing
OMG I found a new author that has completely blown me away. This book is filled with loads of action, redemption and passion. I loved the main characters and the storyline just flowed. I cannot wait for the next book and find out what happened to Ava and to see how Gio will help her. This is a great read and I would defiantly check it out.

This is my first read by this author and gotta say I really liked it, great story, great characters most of them ruthless coz they need to be and it’s quite brutal at times so might not be for the faint hearted....luckily I’m not ;)
Can’t wait for the next book in the series

Addison Jane has gone dark. With her first complete foray into the mafia world she didnt hold back or pull her punches. We find a new direction in her writing and she has done it very well. This book was exciting, dark, sexy and very entertaining. I loved Emerson and Angelo was very sexy (although I still prefer my biker men--sorry, not sorry).
If you are a fan of Mafia romances or Addison's books or just a good, kinda dark romance, you will love this book!
But, have some tissues handy--just sayin.
There was a time or two early in the story I felt their relationship took jumps the characters hadn't really walked to get to though. But, I have to say it didn't really take away from the story and they did make a FIERCE couple! They made each other better snd she changed and became a stronger woman!
Great work Addison....I look forward to Gio's story!

Maybe the Mafia thing just isn't my style? Or maybe this was lacking the energy I was looking for going into it...
So, okay, Angelo's dark-and-bloodthirsty thing was definitely up my alley. And I can admire Emerson for building herself into a someone who had the balls to keep up with the rest of the guys, despite having just found out she's part of one of the most powerful Mafia families in the US.
I think the issue is that it left something to desire in terms of tangibility: character description, settings, etc. I think I'd enjoy it a bit more if it was on film - and that's not something I'd usually admit. But like I said, I'm not a Mafia connoisseur so maybe this had all the elements necessary to craft an accurate story and it flew straight over my head.
Fortunately, if you're like me and a fan of cold fury/retribution, you'll see a lot of that. I've gravitated toward blood and guts to the point of possible clinical detachment but eh, that's my own cross to bear.

The devilish essence inside him that had once chilled me to the bone suddenly felt like it was warming me, wrapping the fires of hell around my body and whispering beautiful promises of revenge in my ear.
I went with my gut on this rating. I didn’t want to overthink it..didn’t want to nitpick...This was a great Mafia romance! Loves the MCs! The Mafia storyline was strong, believable, and Addison Jane didn’t shy away from the dirty criminal aspects. This isn’t a dark romance but there definitely are some very graphic scenes that had me cringing.
But wait, can we talk about that EPILOGUE?! Ava girl, you have your own demons to conquer. Gio & Ava’s story is one that I don’t want to miss. Can’t wait!

La première romance de mafia que j'apprécie vraiment !
Il y a très peu de genres que je n'aime pas, surtout en romance, mais je n'ai jamais trop aimé les romances avec des mafieux : trop sombre, des héros trop froids / avec des tendances de psychopathe, des intrigues avec quinze morts par page dont la moitié ont été exécuté par le héros, une héroïne trop naïve qui se laisse embarquer dans des trucs horribles ...
J'avais plus ou moins abandonné l'idée d'apprécier ce genre de livres et finalement, grosse surprise avec les DePalma que j'ai dévoré !
Oui l'histoire est sombre (la scène du viol au début ... HORRIBLE !! Et la mort à la fin ... Tellement triste !) et le héros est loin d'être un boyscout mais j'ai beaucoup aimé la romance Angelo / Emerson et l'univers mafieux était plus "acceptable" j'ai trouvé avec beaucoup de violence utilisée pour protéger la famille et des femmes qui sont respectées !
Un seule défaut peut-être : j'ai trouvé que tout le monde était très exigeant vis-à-vis de Emerson alors qu'elle a vécu des trucs horribles ...
Bref, je recommande rarement un livre de mafieux mais s'il y en a un que je pourrais recommander, c'est celui-ci =)
PS: J'avoue que je suis curieuse de voir l'histoire de Gio et Ava et j'aimerais bien qu'Anthony retrouve quelqu'un =D

I had more or less given up on the idea of appreciating this kind of books and finally, big surprise with the DePalma that I devoured !
Yes the story is dark (the scene of 's rape at the beginning ... HORRIBLE !! And 's death at the end ... So sad !) And the hero is far from being a boyscout but I liked the Angelo / Emerson romance very much and the mafia universe was more "acceptable" I found with a lot of violence used to protect the family and women who are respected !
Perhaps only one flaw : I found that everyone was very demanding of Emerson even though she had gone through horrible things ...
In short, I rarely recommend a mafia book but if there is one that I could recommend, it's this one =)
PS: I am curious to see the story of Gio and Ava and I would like for Anthony to find someone =D

This story brings more light to the DePalma family and what has been happening with them since we met them briefly in the other series. Angelo made an appearance and now it is his turn to be struck with love. This man is not one to go down without a fight, that's for sure. He is not your typical alpha male to me either. This man is ruthless in life and love. He wants someone who can stand with him, not behind him. One thing I admired about Angelo, was that he strived to make Emerson better. Strived to have her stand on her own. Be the best person she could be on the inside and out.
Emerson, well she loves dance, so you know that automatically gets me all excited when reading. She is oppressed by those that are supposed to love her. Watching her struggle to be who she is on the inside breaks my heart. I enjoyed Emerson's journey, while gut wrenching at times, she rises above and endures.
I will say as the story unfolded I called it. Not exactly in the way I thought, but I knew the bad guy about half way through. I just didn't know HOW he fit into being the bad guy.
This new series is fantastic in my opinion. It had suspense, drama, intrigue, and kept me riveted to my kindle until the very end. I was so vested in Emerson's outcome and rooting for her the whole time. Addison made the flow from past to present seamless and smooth. You didn't feel lost while reading.
The characters are so well-developed in this story. Angelo has a history that nobody could guess and she unfolds his tale in such a way that makes you like this bad boy alpha. Secretly I think he has a heart of gold for those he loves, which is a small selection of people.
Emerson was written as a strong female character. I like how her weakness didn't define her but instead allowed her to overcome. She had to fight to get there, but you could tell she was not going to give up or give in.
This is a great start to a new series that I am looking forward to. I cannot wait to see who in the DePalma family is next in line to find love.

I've loved mafia stories ever since I saw The Godfather for the first time. When Angels Seek Chaos is the first book of The DePalma Family -series and I loved it. The storyline is incredible, and it is everything from dark and twisted into sizzling hot. Alpha males, big guns, capable females, violence... everything to make an excellent mafia story.
Emerson Rossi knows of her Italian heritage, but as far as knowing that her uncle is the boss of DePalma family, she has no idea. Her father has dissociated himself from his mafia roots and built a successful, legitimate business on his own.
But as we know, you can never truly leave. This becomes evident in one horrific event that changes everything for Emerson, even who she thought she was, is changed. She needs protection, and that's Angelo's job. A job he takes very seriously.
"I have been broken. I have felt real pain. The kind of pain that makes you wish you were dead. The kind of pain that had you wishing the next breath you took would be your last." (44% Kindle edition)
This story is about pain and enduring it. Becoming stronger. Finding out who you truly are. It's about making every minute count because life is fragile and not to be taken for granted. This is also a story of love, small flames growing into a blaze of passion.
