Falling Hard (The Blackhawk Boys Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 932 ratings

A Romance Writers of America® 2018 RITA® award winner!

An NFL player with a secret past, and the one woman with the power to turn his world inside out…

“A sexy, sweet, oh-so-emotional second chance romance that will make you believe in the power of fate and forgiveness.” -USA Today Bestseller Lili Valente

Former actress Emma Rothschild is partying in Vegas in disguise. But I’m not fooled. Five years ago, I knew that body better than my own, and I haven’t forgotten a single detail—not the curve of her hip beneath my hand or the hitch in her breath when I kiss her neck.

When Emma’s unexpectedly left alone in Sin City, I agree to spend the weekend with her. As friends. Why not? If I can knock down the toughest guys in the NFL, I’m strong enough to keep my hands to myself, even if she is the sexiest woman I’ve ever met.

Emma is part of my past—years so shrouded in secrets that not even my best friends know the truth about who I am. I’m a single dad now and not interested in revisiting my old ways or trying to win back the only woman I ever let close enough to break my heart.

But this is Vegas, where all bets are off, and with Emma, nothing ever goes as planned…

Oh my goodness talk about complicated, I think I have a book hangover after Keegan and Emma's story.!
Falling hard is brilliantly written, nothing is straight forward or as it seems, you get caught out so many times, there are plenty of secrets, lies, and surprises and as the past gradually catches up with the present it becomes absolutely torturous, I became so anxious wondering if all is going to end well and with certain characters like Keegan's father, Harry and Olivia waiting to pounce at any given time it's easy for doubt to creep in.
Talking about surprises, Keegan's dad was one of them... couldn't trust him but I was holding my breath hoping he would show up on the beach for the second time and he did. It was a touching moment as he confessed to Emma he'd not only been wrong but wanted to make it right between Keegan and Emma... Handing over the evidence that was needed to get Harry arrested was a start.
I think Falling Hard has been the most complex story in this series so far... not taking anything away from the others but honestly so much thought has gone into this plot, Lexi Ryan must have been exhausted afterwards.
Keegan and Jazzy are on the beach, all he can think about is how he's messed up, blown his chances you can only hope that Emma will come back and she does... it's another touching and emotional moment it's the reunion we've been hoping for add to that the fabulous epilogue and it was superb.!
Looking forward to Mason and Bailey.!

Oh goodness! I loved this book! I was drawn in and didn't want to put this down. While it is book 4 in the series it could be read as a stand alone - but Lexi Ryan writes such wonderful stories I'd recommend them all!

Keegan and the Blackhawk boys (and girls) are older, and having graduated have gone their separate ways. So Vegas is a reunion, and while the gang are out partying, Keegan sees Emma - someone he hasn't seen for 5 years. Told from both POV, and with flashback's to that summer five years ago. Both have secrets. There are lies. And there are complications.

I loved this book! Lexi Ryan always writes such wonderful, imperfect and complex characters. The story is one where each character has grown and matured. But they are both hiding so much.

Looking forward to the next book!

What a good read, filled with angst and oh no moments and secrets you just have to know but the sweetest happiest of endings. Good job.

    What I liked…

The chemistry between Emma and Keegan, oh goodness, it was definitely sizzling. You could feel the tension between them from the start.

The…complications…wow what a history between these two, it unfolded oh so slowly but not in a bad way, in a way that kept you guessing and kept that tension sky high. You always expect there to be some kind of obstacles in this kind of book but these weren’t like anything I’ve read before.

    What I didn’t like…

Whilst I loved the hurdles that these guys had to go through and getting to see their past through flashbacks, it didn’t leave much room to see them reconnect.

Also I didn’t realise before I started reading it that it was the fourth book in a series, I’m not saying you can’t read it as a standalone but I do feel like there are a lot of characters that get mentioned and unless you’ve read the previous books you’re not really going to connect with that well.

    Summary…

I really enjoyed this book, it had a lot more in it than I anticipated and Emma and Keegan were really cute together. I think I would have liked to have read the series in order to get a better feel for the characters but I might still go back and see where it all started.

Wow where do I start this book has made me go through all sort of emotions.....Keegan and Emma's story is filled with secrets lies some could say demons from your past that always find a way back into your life but they both showed the love they had for one another could love past all of this and find their way back to one another

While I thought the book was a good book that was well written, it wasn’t my favourite book by this author and I think that was primarily because I found the flitting between the past and the present quite disconcerting.
Emma and Keegan knew each other when they were teenagers and their first foray into a relationship ended poorly but years later they happen upon again each other in Las Vegas.
What would this re-acquaintance mean for them now that they are both older and wiser?
I liked the current Emma and Keegan but that is not to say that I liked who they had been when they were younger, and I think that might have been the problem, I thought there was rather a lot of time spent with their younger selves.
I wanted them to get their happy here and now and found the proliferation of history clouded my reading pleasure, for me it interrupted the pace of the story.
I would like to spend a little more time with who they are now and if that had happened this would have been a solid 4.5 read as it is I would have to say that the I rate the book 3.75 Stars

This one was, by far, my favourite out of this series.
It just really resonated with me.
    Both flawed, but perfect together.
    Loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the series so far.....
Reviewed in the United States on 23 May 2024
I bought the entire series back in 2018 and never had the time read them. In my defense, I have over 4000 books in my Kindle, so unfortunately this series got pushed to the wayside. Having said that, I am now playing catch up and am nearly finished reading Falling Hard.

In the previous books, especially the first one involving Arrow and Mia, I didn't like Keegan, but in subsequent books he redeemed himself. Olivia, however, I cannot stand. She is sneaky, selfish, and self-centered. I haven't had such a strong reaction to a character ever, but this one is over the top.

I love Emma. She has a lot of issues, but what I've realized is that she has all this money but she finds little joy. The one bright spot was her summer romance with Keegan 5 years ago, yet she gave him up. The story begins in Las Vegas where she bumps into Keegan, after leaving him a"Dear John" letter 5 years prior. Keegan was devastated and angry....rightfully so.

I'm not giving away anything more, but this is the best....and I almost didn't read it. Not because of Keegan, but because of the witchy baby mama, Olivia. I still have about an hour left in the book and then on to Mason and Bailey.

Ms. Ryan has a writing style that I love. She doesn't lead you on a wild goose chase, where 50 pages near the end of the book there's some catastrophic event. Usually I have to put the book down at that point because I'm too overwrought to read any further. I love her character development.....nobody can make me hate a character like she can. The best thing I can say is that I'm glad I found these books, because Lexi made my reading so much richer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keegan Keller took me by surprise.I can honestly say this is the best book in the series.
Reviewed in the United States on 23 May 2017
It’s no secret that the Blackhawk Boys Series by Lexi Ryan is one of my favorite new adult, sports romance series. I have loved the three previous books in this series because of the dynamic personalities, the tight knit friendships, and the complex innovative plots. There’s so much more in the series than college football players dealing with campus life and future career prospects.

The latest release, Falling Hard, the fourth book in the series took me by complete surprise. First of all, Keegan Keller was not the kind of person I presumed him to be. The initial impressions from the previous books were somewhat misleading. Keegan Keller is probably the most complex guy within the group of friends.

Falling Hard begins after the guys have graduated college and moved onto their professional lives. Keegan never thought he would play for the NFL and pursued other career ventures by purchasing a bar. He ended up in the NFL when he was signed on after the season began. He’s now in Florida trying to manage his football career, manage his business from afar, and manage his family life. He is a single father trying to manage his shared custody of his daughter. He will do anything for his little girl. He has tried to make things work with Olivia, the baby mama, so that his daughter will have a complete family. Olivia has her own agenda and it doesn’t include Keegan as her future husband.

Mia and Asher (from Spinning Out) are hosting their engagement party in Las Vegas. While attending their celebration Keegan runs into an old girlfriend from his past. Emma Rothschild is in Vegas, in disguise, partying with friends when she is unexpectedly left alone. Keegan and his group of friends invite her to join them for the weekend.

Keegan and Emma have a shaky past that is full of secrets. Neither of them are the same people they were when they were eighteen. Both of them have survived their dark pasts and made better lives for themselves. A weekend of fun in Vegas with friends isn’t going to change either of their paths in life. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas until it doesn’t.

One weekend is going to change the course of both their lives. This time around it’s more than a teenage romance. It’s more than a relationship fueled by lies. Keegan is playing for keeps. Emma is finally finding the courage to take complete control of her life. There are still secrets to be exposed that could hurt them both. Keegan’s family life could tear them apart. When the truths come out, they will have to decide where their future lies.

I can honestly say this is the best book in the series. This book was a second chance romance. I loved how the book gave readers a look at the past and the present from both Emma’s and Keegan’s POV. The readers were able to see their growth as individuals as well as their maturity in handling their second chance at love.

Falling Hard by Lexi Ryan is the best in series to date!

    4.5 STARS

"Tonight, Emma isn’t the woman who once broke my heart. She isn’t the girl who wrote me off with a simple goodbye note and apologies I didn’t want. Tonight, she’s a dream, my fantasy in the flesh, my reward for surviving the hardest year of my whole life."

Falling Hard is a second chance romance between a former child star and an NFL football player. I'm not sure I'd call this story angsty in the same way I typically use the word, but this book is tumultuous, with layers upon layers upon layers of difficulty and secrets and lies and mistakes and heartache. Lexi Ryan has brought all of the Blackhawk boys through their own personal versions of hell, through some serious drama and out the other side to their happily ever afters, tugging the heartstrings of the reader the whole way through. Keegan's story is no different. Rife with heartbreak and longing, Falling Hard is an intricately woven romance full of complicated secrets, gut wrenching truths, and blissfully romantic second chances.

Every time I close a Lexi Ryan book, I'm convinced her writing and storytelling can't get any better. I'm repeatedly proven wrong. The writing in this book is simply stunning and the manner in which this story was so meticulously crafted is truly on another level. I've loved every book in this series, but there's something about Falling Hard that felt more layered, more complex, more intense. I'll say it again, I've loved every one of the Blackhawk boys and their stories, but this book showcased Lexi Ryan's writing talents in a whole new light for me.

Falling Hard pulled me in IMMEDIATELY. A surprise reunion in Vegas between Keegan and Emma, whose brief romance was cut short before it really ever had a chance to begin, spirals into something no one could've seen coming. In fact, with each turn of the page, I was kicked in the gut with more of the unexpected... more heartache, more information about the past, more side characters threatening what might be. As the story unfolds, as this messy dynamic evolves, I found myself turning the pages at rapid fire speed, ravenous for this puzzle to piece itself together for me. Keegan's life is messy. Emma's life is messy. Their brief romance was messy, full of secrets and deception. When they see each other again for the first time after five years, so much has changed, but the secrets keep coming, the emotional hits relentless. What was once messy grows exponentially more so with each omission, with their renewed attraction, with all that was done in the dark starting to come into the light. When I say this story is complicated, it's an understatement. This story is devastating in many ways, infuriating in others, but always hopeful. Always romantic. Always riveting.

I love this series because of how very different every single book is. I love this series because I never know what I'm going to get when I open the newest book, but I'm always swept away in another gripping storyline. I love this series because of how heavy each book is. These characters are pushed to the brink, facing devastating situations that kick the reader right in the gut. And Lexi Ryan nails it every time, delivering stories that are as romantic as they are emotionally torturous. Falling Hard is another winner in one of my top favorite series, a story of hope and forgiveness, acceptance and love. It's riddled with pain and drama and steam and lush romance, all woven seamlessly together by polished writing. I can't get enough of this series and I'm already sad I read this book so quickly. I loved it. I couldn't put it down. And I can't wait for the next!
