The Castle (Endgame Book 3) Kindle Edition
Safe in the ivory tower...
Gabriel Miller swears he'll keep me safe. Enemies lurk outside, waiting to strike. An army held back by these walls.
Except some animal instinct warns me the danger is much closer. It's already here. Is Gabriel my protector or my enemy? Is this house a castle or a cage?
There's nowhere for me to go, no one left for me to trust.
No escape from a past determined to capture its prize.
THE CASTLE is book three in the Endgame series from New York Times bestselling author Skye Warren about revenge and seduction in the game of love. This is the final novel in the story of Gabriel and Avery.

Great finish to the trilogy,
- Reviewed in Australia on 6 November 2017Verified PurchaseThrough these three books we see the development of Avery from frightened waif to confident queen, with the complex character of Gabriel providing the foil for her innocence and transparent desire to save first her father, then the mysterious Penny, and ultimately the monster she's fallen in love with. Skye Warren is the authority on damaged male protagonists who find salvation in the arms of women whose strength only becomes apparent when those men put it to the test! The chess analogy runs cleverly throughout the series, as dark and sexual as it is intellectual. I really loved this trilogy and can't wait to continue on with Damon and Penny's story.

What a way to end Gabriel and Averys story. Worth the read 100% This series captivated me from the beginning and I devoured it.
- Reviewed in Australia on 4 April 2017Verified PurchaseI enjoyed this series so much I didn't want it to end. It had everything a good book should have, and still leaves me hanging for more.
- Reviewed in Australia on 30 September 2017Sinful, sexy and pushing all of those boundaries….
Oh gosh, where to start! Gabriel, Avery and their intense love story has been a wild ride of emotions. A tale woven through times of despair, desperation and violence, The Castle and the rest of this series is NOT for the faint hearted. Gabriel and Avery’s relationship will push every boundary you have of right and wrong. The lines will blur. Everything you thought you understood, will be tested. And just like the previous instalments, The Castle unfolded with a fast paced unique plot, well developed characters and answers to mysteries you wouldn’t see coming. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series from the beginning. The Pawn captured me from the very first page to the very last. Each book has followed through with such uniqueness and beautiful writing that it reminded why Skye Warren is ALWAYS an auto buy author for me.
But I’d like to point out why I didn’t LOVE this series like I have loved her others. And it will be the unpopular opinion of my review.
I adored Avery.
I also love anti heros. Love love love them. The more assholey, the better.
BUT….I did not like Gabriel. I didn’t like him when we first met him in The Pawn and as much as it pains me to say it because I do love everything Skye Warren writes –I had grown to seriously dislike him in The Castle.
Let me explain why.
Gabriel was an anti hero. Or at least he was supposed to be. To me, he was mostly a villain. This was because of the way he was written and portrayed to me as a reader. I love anti hero’s for a reason. They have that hard brooding exterior and most of the time they’ll cold hearted on the inside as well. But there is a reason for it, or multiple reasons and those reasons are why I can love them and why them getting a happily ever after is so satisfying. You can empathise with these men, still fall for them when you understand why they are the way they are. Now yes, Gabriel had an incredibly horrible childhood, so I should have been able to empathise with him, right?
I couldn’t for the most part. Yes I hated the awful past he had endured and at such a young age. But for me, it could NOT excuse his behaviour and all around attitude as an adult, towards Avery. I had sincerely hoped I would grow to love him. To feel something for him other than frustration and disdain, but The Castle only solidified my reasoning for not finding him any kind of hero at all. Was it his fault? I won’t say completely. He was raised to show women no love, kindness or respect so I can understand why so much of that imprinted on him and contributes to him as the man he is today. But still, it wasn’t enough for me.
Gabriel was emotionally and mentally abusive. And unfortunately, in some sexual instances in The Castle, due to the way some sentences were written, it felt as though he was physically abusive towards Avery when she did NOT really want it. I did not find this to be an issue for me in the previous books, but it was extremely easy to pick up on in The Castle.
I know, I know. You hate me now. But while you may disagree I’ll also add here, I love taboo stories. I love stories that push moral boundaries. I LOVE dark romance. So it is not that this series was not for me as I read many like this often.
Had some sentences been worded differently, had Gabriel not said certain things he did, had he not been quite so cold the entire series, I would have felt differently. I truly would have. What tipped me off the most though? It was AVERY. It was her inner monologue that made me feel it was abuse over Gabriel’s own way of expressing love. Avery would say she didn’t want it, it didn’t matter, Gabriel would do whatever he wanted anyway. She felt she was a prisoner. Her voice was never heard over his domineering one. What she wanted, did not matter. This came from her. Not Gabriel.
I wish I could have loved the final piece to this intriguing series but I couldn’t. My emotional frustration and turmoil over Gabriel and Avery’s relationship dynamics took over the enjoyment I found in the rest of the story and the amazing mysteries that unfolded. But this is just my opinion, and if you enjoy taboo, sexy sinful stories with lots of heat, this series might be a winner for you.
- Reviewed in Australia on 11 November 2020Verified PurchaseThis book is edgy, and sexy and all the things a good dark romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
- Reviewed in Australia on 6 April 2017Verified PurchaseGabriel and Avery come full circle in The Castle. I loved the flow of the storyline and I was shocked with the revelations that occurred. The twist near the end was sensational and unexpected. Can't wait for The King.

5.0 out of 5 stars Endgame - it's so addictive!
Verified PurchaseI LOVE Skye Warren's books - read everyone. The three books of Endgame series, The Pawn, The Knight, The Castle are absolutely superb - they are so good they are addictive!
Whilst in some trilogies the main characters change and weaken - this is not the case here. Gabriel does not lose his cold, harsh edge, Avery maintains her softness and inner strength. As the story progresses the characters become more complex making for a far better read. It was also a treat that some characters from 'The Stripped' series appear, particularly Candy and Ivan.
Whilst being an unconventional love story, the three books have a well thought out plot that flows like silk. Boy does that plot twist, turn and darken particularly in The Castle.
This is Skye Warren at her very best. She can write complex dark erotica like no other. The reader's total attention is held from the first page of The Pawn till the last page of The Castle.
The Pawn, The Knight, The Castle - the pieces are assembled beautifully - now we await The King (27th June).

5.0 out of 5 stars Surpasses every desire
Verified PurchaseSeries normally have some boring parts and with patience and hope, one reads on until the story gets better but this series was mind blowing from the very beginning. It truly deserves the five star rating I'm giving it because I got to the end of the book, hoping for more.
Great story line, great characters and excellent writing throughout, enrapturing the reader from start to finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Toller Abschluss

5.0 out of 5 stars 5+++ Stars! Absolutely loved!
Verified PurchaseUtterly enthralled by this trilogy and this final installment I am. Skye Warren took this plot and shredded it piece by piece in The Castle. So many loose ends are tied while new information surfaces about our beloved Gabriel and Avery. Skye Warren's writing hooks you so easily forcing your mind to these characters even when you're not reading. Her story telling unleashes twists and turns in her dark, erotic plot you never see coming leaving you breathless, reeling for more.
"I need to be destroyed."
The plot is like a tree. We've been given the branches and the leaves, the trunk is solid but in The Castle we see how tangled the roots really are for these characters. This story is definitely dark and totally twisted. It'll captivate you entirely. Both Gabriel and Avery are characters who share passion and secrets. Figuring each other out, playing games are mainstays between the two. While you never quite know which way is up the intrigue never stops to learn even more.
"Castles don't move."
I love all the chess references and rich history of mythology Skye Warren weaves into her dialogue, prose, and plot. There's foreshadowing and clues throughout the trilogy that gives you just a little more with each reveal but never fully showing the full deck. I loved the twists and turns. It's truly a game with more players than just Gabriel and Avery.
"My wings want to beat against a cage."
For me, this story was an evolution of Avery James. A chance at something she wants but doesn't understand fully. It's growth and maturation. It's breaking down at your core foundation. Her story is heart wrenching, full of angst and passion. I love her. The strength she draws from their games, from herself, and from Gabriel make her formidable even when she's crumbling. She's fighting for herself constantly. Fighting to understand and fighting to be a partner.
"The queen has freedom the king does not. She decides her own fate."
Gabriel Miller. He's the master. The protector. The unflinching shield in the face of danger. The captor. And the passionate, intelligent man that graces these pages. There's so much about Gabriel that's tragic. All that tragedy wrapped up in a tightly sealed, enigmatic package. This man will leave entranced. His devotion, his steadfast obsession with Avery is hot and deviously romantic. I love him and want him for myself!
"No one can ever take it away."
Entrenched in gnarly, layered vines of betrayal, deceit, sickness, pleasure, passion, and pain this trilogy will captivate you. The Castle perfectly ended a series of books I fell in love with. It has an amazing epilogue too which I adore. For those readers who love dark, twisted romances don't miss the Endgame Trilogy. Skye Warren's brilliant story telling will leave you beyond satisfied with her shadowy tale. I'm so excited to have this story.
