Storm (Ashes & Embers Book 1) Kindle Edition
Carian Cole brings you her debut novel in a series of popular interconnected stand-alones showcasing members of a rock band finding the love of their lives in the most unlikely ways.
A series of weather and driving mishaps leaves me trapped in the woods during a blizzard with a complete stranger in the back of his pickup truck for forty-eight hours.
A stranger with long hair, tattoos, and rippling with muscle.
A stranger with an insanely sexy voice and a wicked smile that turned my insides to jelly.
A stranger who held me in his arms, calmed me, and then set a fire in me that I couldn't put out.
A stranger who I later find out, is a famous rock star.
Storm lives up to his name. Dangerously alluring. Tumultuous. A beautiful, unexpected clash of hot and cold. He's used to getting everything he wants.
And now he wants me.
Me? A quirky, girl-next-door-type who has no business dating a rock star.
Some people chase storms for the thrill. What happens when the storm chases you?

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 October 2024So yes, I am STILL on the Carian Cole train. Sorry, not sorry. I’m obsessed, what can I say!?
This book was SO SO GOOD! I haven’t read a rockstar romance for a while, and I’d forgotten how much I love them.
Storm Valentine was EVERYTHING. E V E R Y T H I N G G G G G! I swooned, blushed (pffft… not really… more like salivated!), and wanted to jump into the book just to tell him how much I love him. But in all seriousness, he was the perfect mix of bossy alpha male and kind, thoughtful golden retriever. Literally my perfect fictional man. Yum.
The story was full of classic Carian Cole angst, tension, and love.
I cannot WAIT to dive into Vandal as THAT snippet of how his life was at the end was NOT OKAY.
Thank you, Carian, for yet another five-star-read 🖤
(Ps… for those who need to know, no animals die in this book!)
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 July 2018I stumbled across this book when it popped up and my FB feed and it sounded interesting. It was a nice surprise and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The storyline was different and the characters all had depth. The only tiny flaw that I found was the title of the song sung in one scene. It's NIGHTS In White Satin, not Knights. I'm a Moody Blues freak, so I had to lower the star rating by one star for that error. Otherwise, it was a great book and I will definitely read your other ones.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 November 2015This story popped up on my recommended feed and I simply liked the blurb, thought it would fill in the evening and of course it was only 99p. So all good!
Then the first few chapters happened and I was a little sceptical as I didn't warm to Evelyn but again figured it was only 99p so , it was still cheap and would fill in the evening.
Then...I started to like her.
By then I was already loving Storm, but it was a story very much leaning towards liking her to pull it off. Simply because she had let her life just slow to a dull ride where she worried herself into being ill - panic attacks and depression. Whether her rut happened because of the depression or her depression happened because of her rut I never really figured out, but then that could be clever writing on the part of Ms' Cole, or simple an unintended confusion that is actually fitting with depression.
Michael ... well I don't think he was a bad person, but he was a cowardly one. He was an unhealthy aid rather than a good love interest and deserved to havd his eye wipped. Nuff said.
The book is simply written, in particular the earlier chapters. Slight signs of immaturity in both characters that had words used like 'screamed' irritated me. In particular with Storm. Men don't scream unless they're being sawn in two by a crazed killer and only then if the author can't find a better word. When they get impatient or annoyed or exasperated, the shout, yell, call out, even roar. But not scream. That one word made me view Storm as childish. ...but only briefly. Thankfully the improvement in the authors handling and writing was actually very noticible aa the chapters unfolded. And from that point, my cheap 99p book became one of those little unexpected treasures.
OK you're not going to learn how to perform heart surgery reading this. Nor bake a cake ( which surprisingly I have done because of tips given in romance novels lol), but you WILL enjoy a nice girls blossoming because a sexy rocker who wears smuged eyeliner, has tattoo's even on his legs, and two colored highlights in the side of his hair. Oh...and a fab enormous dog.
The books good enough I've bought the second in the series for tonight. Oh and BTW they are stand alone stories but as always I'm sure better enjoyed if all are read.
Rock on!
This will be my review on good reads also.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 March 2015I got this book last night after meeting the author on a Facebook site and started the book straight away! I could not put it down and read to 62%...
The main character, Evelyn, is SO funny and the response she gets from Storm is classic! I love her innocence and the fact he brings out the best in her.
This morning, I finished it immediately and was left satisfied... It all happens too fast in the end, but it works. A sweet love story. The erotica moments in it will keep those looking for a 18+ read happy, but essentially they are discovering each other. I loved the build up and once the relationship intensified a part of me was disappointed! I liked their foreplay!
Overall, a cracking read by a new author. I look forward to reading more of her books. I loved the humour ... Made it less serious than other books in this genre. So glad I found this via Facebook :)
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 May 2023It should be ⭐⭐⭐⭐ but the beginning felt awkward and clumsy. Situation was forced (and not by the weather) and the dialogue was irritating, did not flow. I actually was temted to give up but kept reading.
It's a nice little story, not very deep but not super shallow either. The writing got getter as the book progressed and I read it with pleasure.
I wish Michael character wasn't a cliche .... ..... (ups, no spoilers!) and made the situation harder but hey!
I'm looking forward to book two!

5.0 out of 5 stars Una bella sorpresa
Non conoscevo l'autrice, il libro è stato una sorpresa molto piacevole: il giusto mix di divertente e sexy, mi è piaciuto e l'ho trovato molto rilassante. Leggerò senz'altro altri libri della serie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Storm Warning..this book is addictive!
If I had magical power to bring a book boyfriend to life, it would be Storm, the hero in amazingly talented Carian Cole's book. I don't have the ability, but Carian has brought this very unique and superbly masculine man to life for her readers, and what a marvelous gift he is!!
Evie is in a steady, committed relationship (at least on her part) and the last thing that she thinks she needs is a beautiful, smart-ass, alpha male to rescue her from her mundane life. Turns out that isn't true on any front.
Storm doesn't do relationships. He has buddies that fulfill his "needs." His best friend is his dog, Niko, and they, along with his family and job are all that he needs. He's wrong as well.
I don't want to give too much away, but from the very first page, I was swept into their world, and I didn't want to leave. Turns out that Storm doesn't want to leave Evie either. He is madly, passionately in love, and we feel that love. Storm and Evie are soulmates. Storm acts on his instincts and knows that Evie is his future. He feels it. Evie turns out to be the song that sings in Storm's heart. She seems to be calling to him, and he follows the path that pulls him towards her.
We feel it so much that we want to shake Evie just a little bit and tell her to get on with things. Not too much, because Evie is every girl. Truly. Her emotions and actions are completely understandable. She is probably my favorite heroine because she is so relatable. She has had a rough few years and Storm just seems to powerful and maybe a bit frightening because she would have to leave her dull, drab, unhappy but familiar world to be with him.
This book has it all. A cool, kick ass best friend, a douche of a boyfriend who is arguably one of my least favorite characters, yet I admit that I love to hate him. A warm, loving, unbelievable supportive family (Storm's) and characters who will leave you yearning for more! And Carian delivers There is the mysterious, sexy, sad Asher, the warm, sexy supportive Lukas, the magnetic, sexy Vandal, and a host of other individuals that can be met in other books. Did I mention that all the males are hot? This novel is stand alone, but is one in a series that I am certain that you will one click as soon as possible.
Carian Cole loves her fans, listens to them, and writes for them. She is currently working on "Loving Storm" which will be released soon and I can not wait! It promises to be a hit with her fans as it will touch on our favorite characters.. Also, Carian and her husband donate portions of her royalties to worthwhile pet charities. She is not only a gifted writer, but an amazing person and it shows in each of her books. I wish that I could give this amazing book more than 5 stars. One of the tag lines for this book is "Some people chase storms for the beautiful thrill. What happens when the storm chases you?" This says it all. Read it. You will never forget it!
This book is hilarious, heartbreaking, haunting and healing.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing starter for this rock series!
This is one of my favourite novels from the Ashes and Embers series (along with Lukas). I would recommend this book (and the series in general) to anyone who is into long-haired, tattoed, badass rockstars paired up with sweet, innocent, but strong female characters. Although I've read some reviews where readers complain about the heroine (Evie), because at first she might come accross as undecided and weak, I think she's a very strong character who has to deal with anxiety issues, and she just needed a sweet and understanding hero to help her gain some confidence. As for the male protagonist, I fell head over heels with Storm right from the very beginning. He is so sweet and tender with Evie, and tries to make her come out of her shell. I also fell totally in love with her dog, Niko, and Evie's cute cat, Halo. All in all, I think this novel is awesome. I've read it a couple of times already and I couldn't put it down. Totally recommendable!
