- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 May 2015When I first started reading then seen it was a step brother book I have to admit I groaned as at the moment everyone seems to have jumped on that band wagon, but I thought of all kaseys books I've read there hasn't been one I didn't like so I carried on. And boy am i glad I did Brock is just gorgeous looks and personality and is the ultimate sweetie, Cassidy is a strong girl who is a loving mother to the way too cute Elody oh my goodness she melted my heart. This is a feel good loving easy read with little angst and very enjoyable and I'm glad I continued reading as I just loved it. I recommend this book if you are looking a loving sexy romantic feel good book!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 May 2015Family Secrets is the latest Stepbrother book from Kasey Millstead.
The storyline (not going into as it would reveal key spoilers)certainly stood apart from others I've read in this genre and I found Family Secrets to be a quick enjoyable read.
One of the things that made this an ok read as opposed to a great read for me, was the relationship between the H/h. I just didn't get much from them as a couple. I would have really liked to have seen more of them together and some scenes where we got to experience an emotional connection between them rather than just a sexual one.
3.5 stars from me.
I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 May 2015Although this was kinda a short story [it said on my Kindle 2hrs 15 mins] it was packed with utter charm, utter goodness and some sadness.
Cassidy [Cassi as she likes to be known] met Brock when she arrived home to find her Mom has remarried and was living in a lovely home with her new business man husband. She remarried well.
He has two older children who come visit now and again. It happened to be the same time that Cassi had arrived that weekend.
Cassiday bumps into Brook on the landing that night and electricity is struck between them, the sparks are flying everywhere!!! But its her stepbrother, technically, isn't it?
Not to give too much of the story away, the inevitable happens.
Things do not go to plan.
There are two secrets in this book I found out!
There are some heart stopping, heart thumping moments within these pages.
I am NOT going to reveal them!! You need to read it to experience it all. I LOVED it.
My Thoughts:
It was lovely to come back to a romance book with a great story and not just loaded with sex. After all, how many ways can an author write 'the sex act' regardless of how many positions lol
This is the reason I don't read a lot of romance, it gets too much the 'sameness' BUT this one was good, really good, probably because I came to a romance fresh from some other genres I have been reading.
I would recommend this book, its not a long story, but like I say, its packed with emotion. I LOVED IT.
My thanks go to the author and tour operator for allowing me my copy to read and review. I don't often agree to read, just promote, so in this instance, I am so glad I choose to read this.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 May 2015I received an ARC of 'Family Secrets' from Kasey, in exchange form an honest review.
I love how Kasey is able to write in just about any genre, always dealing with real life events that could really happen. I found myself quickly lost within the story of Cassi & Brock, a step brother romance with a difference. 'Family Secrets' is a stand alone from Kasey... which is awesome, but I could have read more about them both.
Seventeen year old Cassidy arrives home to be told her mother had remarried whilst she was away & that they were moving into her husbands house that day. Let me just say Cassi's mother is a piece of work, that women has not a single maternal bone in her body, I felt the need to jump into the book & king hit the women. Cassi bumps into her step brother that night & sparks fly betweent them. Cassi quickly becomes friends with her new step fathers daughter & Brock is there to keep her safe from older guys at parties... Things don't stay all innocent & we soon learn all the secrets to why Cassi doesn't have the family support she obviously wants & needs.
I FLOVED how things played out in this book, Cassi & Brock come together at the start & it's a shock to both of them & only Cassi & her mother know why she left. Brock, being Brock wont take NO for an answer & wants to know why she left & the absolute truth. This step-brother romance is very different to others I have read. I enjoyed learning, through memories, the events that lead to everything... I especially loved the lead up to the end & how it happened. There was a bit of jumping through time so you could understand the events, but Kasey made sure everything was labeled so I wasn't confused. I can't wait to read more of Kasey's books.

3.0 out of 5 stars begining of the story was good
I like forbidden love stories and this fits- a step sibling romance. It should not bother most readers because they were in their late teens when they met.
I will keep this review vague as to not give away any spoilers.
I liked the beginning of the story. It kept my interest & it was unique. However after that part of the book was finished it was hard to stay interested, especially when the story kept jumping too the past during the hero and heroine's separation. Just dull stuff.
They were a lot of things that happened in this story that were very unlikely including how the heroine did what she did on her own at a young age without any help or money. It was very unrealistic. Also the mother being Cruella de Vil was very unlikely as well and her husband's response when he found out what Crulla de Vil did was hard to believe.
Both hero and heroine were immature due to their ages when they were 1st together and it showed. Hero was only interested in taking her v-card as opposed to getting to know her. Within a short period of time he convinced her to sleep with him and not long thereafter they separated. The words he used to refer to her anatomy as a teenager were a turn off for me. Just too crude. The hero claimed to really want her and miss her but when they were separated he made very little effort to find her. The heroine went into deep freeze during the 5 plus years of separation, that was sad She was never with another man. The hero was her one and only. The author was silent regarding if the hero had smex with OW during the separation but given that he was only 18 when they separated and the separation was long it is extremely unlikely that he was. At least I did not have to read about it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great premise, but the story was too rushed
Family Secrets had a great premise, but something was missing with this story in my opinion.
We meet Cassidy (Cassi) when she's 17 and finds out while she was on a school trip, her mother has gotten married and she's about to meet her new step-father and step-siblings. When she runs (literally) into Brock she can't take her eyes off of him. Things quickly heat up between these two, and then all of a sudden, Cassi has disappeared without a word.
Cassi and Brock see each other again five years later, and Cassi has a secret, and Brock wants answers. I did like the back and forth of Brock trying to get Cassi's secret out and to figure out why she left with no word all those years ago. I am not sure how Brock didn't figure out her secret sooner, but when it was all said and done, he took it a lot better than I thought he would.
Now like I said the premise of this story was awesome, a different twist on the step sibling romance, but I felt at times this book was too rushed, and too wordy. We had a lot of lead up to the secret coming out, and what happened in their past, and then I felt like we were rushed through the ending of the story, which is where I think it could have really gotten good.
One thing I would have liked to have seen is more of what these two did while they were apart for five years. Why Brock didn't try harder to find Cassi if he truly wanted to see her, how they never ran into each other living so close to one another, and how some things were forgiven so easily.
Like I said, the book had a good story, but was too rushed in my opinion and needed some more story in it. This was a very quick read, and I do enjoy Kasey's books, this one just wasn't on my fave list.
