The girl next door is more than she seems…

Or an adventure.
He finds both closer than he expected—in his gorgeous new neighbor.
The spark between them is instant. Electric. Soon they’re spending every stolen minute together. It’s the perfect summer fling.
Lucy is keeping a secret. She isn’t the girl next door—she’s the help who’s been hired to house sit for the summer.
She’s a nobody.
If Gabe wants to believe she’s a spoiled rich girl looking for some fun, she can play along with this game. What’s the harm in it?
What they didn’t count on was running into each other at college.
Now Lucy must keep up the pretense of being a rich girl—and it’s exhausting. She knows she’s falling in love with Gabe and she’s terrified he feels the same. Will he stay with her when her secret comes into the light?

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 August 2016Well that's my opinion of Gabe forever changed!
If you want to know the story, read the blurb, but what I will say Is that I enjoyed this book better than the first.
Excellent writing and I was drawn into Lucy and Gabe's story from the very beginning :) Bring on Tristan's story......
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 August 2015I really enjoyed this second book in the series. I liked Gabe from the start but took a little while to warm up to Lucy- her lack of self confidence wore a little thin at times so I was delighted when she showed the strong , determined side of herself. It was sad how isolated she had been. Good to see Jade and Shep. As for Tristan....hmmm....Ms Murphy has her work cut out with his character I think and I am very intrigued to learn more about the guy who , for me , is the least popular in the group.
Gabe and Lucy have a hot Summer fling that leaves them both sad when they part ways. Lucy has secrets that she is hiding and these come to the fore when she unexpectedly crosses paths with our Hero .
This was an enjoyable read. The ending was nice- it felt like a happy for now ending which works well in the context of the book. I hope that Tristan's story will finish with an epilogue that looks into the future for all three couples.
Lots of passion after a well written slow build. Just enough angst.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 August 2015In The Dark is book #2 in The Rule Series, I was lucky enough to be gifted an ARC of the book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.
I’ve read several books by Monica Murphy and really enjoyed them. I’ve always found her good guys and girls lovely and her bad guys and girls evil and generally bad.
Which was why it was surprising that I kind of just felt mehhh about all of the characters in this book.
Both Lucy and Gabe just came across as incredible gullible!!
Don’t get me wrong they are both nice enough people I just found myself rolling my eyes at the predictable issues and dialogue.
This is a nice NA story and really when you break it down it’s a classic plot that should and does work as an easy Sunday afternoon read.
My issue is that I didn’t invest in the characters and instead of finding the body issues that Lucy has relatable and endearing I was aggravated by how a beautiful girl with a natural rocking curvy body is ashamed of her curves.
Girls there is nothing wrong with women having curves!!! I know that Gabe loves her body but I was too busy wanting to shout at Lucy to notice Gabe proclamations.
This is a nice book with a nice NA storyline that ended in a nice way with only a few minor speed bumps to happily ever after.
Perhaps I’m being a miserable cow but I just didn’t get into this book.
In The Dark gets 3 stars from me.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 October 2015Would have been 5 stars. I do like this author, however the end seemed so rushed and honestly quite out of character with the rest of the book. The forgive and forget part, didn't ring right. The parents, just didn't buy it. It was a shame as the end had so much potential felt short changed. Still not sure if I'll bother with book 3
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 September 2015really enjoyed this book. Looking forward to the next one!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 October 2015I really enjoyed the first book in this series, jade and shep's story, was unsure whether to read this second one in case it didn't live up to it. I worried for nothing gable and lucy's story was just as good and I now can't wait to read tristans.
Monica Murphy is becoming one of my favourite authors.

1.0 out of 5 stars barboso
Non sono riuscita a terminarlo, non ce l'ho proprio fatta! Non c'è azione o alcun sviluppo emotivo o caratteriale. Gli argomenti non sono semplicemente rimarcati, ma ripetuti all'infinito, uguali e precisi. Dialoghi banali e ripetitivi, personaggi secondari quasi inesistenti e servono solo a ripetere i concetti già ripetuti dai 2 principali.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy read!!
I really liked "In the dark". Sexy men and sassy chicks are really rocking. Love the dirty talk and the down to earth chick gets her happy ending. These two never give up on each other. Thank you Monica!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun, sweet romance
I loved Fair Game, the first book in The Rules series. Monica Murphy does it again with the second book, In The Dark.
The series is about three wealthy college guys who are out to have the time of their lives before they face the real world. They are living life and having fun until they start finding love. The series if fun and sweet and each book focuses on a different guy. This first book was about Shep. This second book is all about Gabe.
Oh, Gabe, you funny, sarcastic, manwhore of a guy. Gabe is not at all ashamed of his way of life. Then he meets Lucy and you slowly see him evolve in to a kind, considerate and loving man. Lucy is a sweet, sassy, insecure girl with a terrible body image problem. They meet over the summer and become involved each one changing the other for the better. They fall deeper into each other, but then summer ends and they part ways assuming they will never see each other again. Surprise! They end up at the same college! I won’t tell you anymore of the plot, because while I liked the first half of the book, I loved the second half. The second half is where things really get going and you really connect with the characters and what they are experiencing. The book moves along pretty quickly after that (but not too fast that the reader feels rushed) and it’s a race to a sweet happily-ever-after.
One thing Monica Murphy does so well is angst. Not campy, obnoxious angst, but believable, I’m feeling this along with the characters angst. In the Dark has everything a romance reader would want—fun romance, sweet interactions, sexy times and of course, the all-important happily-ever-after.
Book Three in the series, Slow Play, which is Tristan’s story, is releasing November 10, 2015. I can’t wait!
