Review

"EK Blair brought me back to the swoony days of first love with Crave, but it was the depth and layers of this story that kept me turning the pages. Tender, sexy, and unputdownable--it will leave your heart pounding." -Jessica Hawkins, author of Something in the Way

About the Author

New York Times, USA Today, and international bestselling author E.K. Blair takes her readers on an emotional roller coaster with her books. Aside from writing, E.K. Blair finds pleasure in music, drinking her Starbucks in peace, and spending time with her friends. She's a thinker, an artist, a wife, a mom, and everything in between.

Well this is certainly an interesting story with a cliffhanger! It deals with high school, innocence, addictions, first love and friendship. It's a bit young for me but it's a compelling story!

What an amazing book. I love YA but this one even more cause it touches on subjects that many authors don't. Without giving spoilers, I'll just say that I loved the unique & different turns and twists.
Love Kason & Addy, even though Kason has hurdles to over come I couldn't help but root for him. His earlier years made me sad at times. They are very sweet together...need book two now.

Fantastic Job E.K. Blair!!!! I absolutely love this story!! Crave: part 1 is a sweet new adult love story with a substantial story line. E.K. isn’t a new author to me, so I’ve been beyond excited for this new one and it was just what I needed. Great story, great characters; so well defined I felt as if I knew them personally. We laughed, cried, struggled together through this journey and I’m so ready for the next one!!!

Kason is a sweet and loveable character that struggles internally with something that is so sad, embarrassing to him and he feels so much shame because of it. My heart broke for him so many times, I could feel him hurting and I hurt with him. I’m impressed with the progress he makes throughout the book as he deals with his condition, not just being honest with Adaline but, with himself as well. I understand the conflict within him as he struggles to come to terms with and figure out how to manage his addiction as well as his concern of how it may affect her. His love for Adaline is so pure and good, truly beautiful.

Adaline, this girl deserves a hug and a medal for strength. She is so innocent at the beginning of this book and has had to grow up so fast not just with Kason but other family situations. I am so proud of her acceptance of his difficult addiction and her willingness to really listen and support him. Her love for him is so strong and true, so intense. I’m hurting for her right now, wondering about the next step in their journey. I'm thinking it's going to be a long road for them and I’m curious to see how she handles her own request for honesty and allowances for help when you need it. She has such a great support group if she will trust and allow them to help.

I can’t wait for book two, I seriously couldn’t sleep last night; it was all I could think about. Thank you E.K. Blair for giving me an amazing story that was full of love and feels, even those that didn’t feel too good. I'm so happy you shared Kason and Adaline’s emotional love story; I’ll be sitting here impatiently waiting for the next one.

I love going into books with as little information as possible and this one was no different.

I have been a fan of E.K Blairs for a long time but she usually writes on the darker side. I wasn't sure what to expect with this YA love story. Well, I devoured this book in less than 24 hours, I couldn't get enough. I love the softer side of her writing just as much as I love the dark.

Kason is the quiet popular kid who feels like he isn't deserving of a relationship with Adaline because he has secrets he is ashamed and embarrassed about so he keeps from everyone.
Adaline is the new girl in town, who is fairly reserved and trying to settle into a new life in a new town with her mom.
As their relationship grows, Kason has no choice but to share his secrets with Adaline in hopes that they can survive.

EK writes about an addiction/craving that is not typically written about and it definitely was not what I was expecting.
Her writing style as well as her beautiful storyline draw you in and leave you wanting more. Thankfully this only part one and I won't have to wait for more of these two characters.

Author E.k Blair, known for her more “Dark” books, stepped outside in the Sun and ventured out into a more Summer Romance, Young Love, type of story, but knowing E,k Blair, there’s ALWAYS some “Edginess with a Side of Twist” into the “FORBIDDEN,” “DARK” waters that make her Books EXTRA SPECIAL and UNIQUE... Crave does appear more centered around Young Adults, however, I found the story perfectly acceptable for any age; 18+.
Young, Texan Native, Adaline “ADY” has moved with her career driven Lawyer Mom to Tampa, Florida. Ady’s parents divorced and her mother has accepted a new position in a Defensive Law Firm in Florida. A new state, different climate, new school in the Spring, girls tanned, skinny and petite, new surroundings and many changes have left ADY feeling lonely, insecure and unsure of herself and her new beginnings.
Floridian Native, smart, good looking, Kason literally “BUMPS” into “New Girl” Ady on her first day of school, not wanting to call her “ADY” like everyone else, Kason calls her by her given name, Adaline. Kason, a smart, hard working young man who was transferred to the school all thanks due to his best friend Micah’s Dad, who saw the potential in Kason and the determination to make his poor living situation BETTER by graduating, going to College, finding a career and “ MAKING SOMETHING OUT OF HIMSELF!!!” Kason, lives on the “Other Side” of Tampa, minus the big Mansions and Swimming Pools, But instead, the side with chain length fence, broken down cars, police sirens ring out on a daily basis and people work hard for their little paychecks, just like Kason’s Mom, working 2-3 jobs in her lifetime, barely managing for both her and Kason and Kason, working after school at his job and keeping his grades up.
Kason holds in a dark deep secret, something disturbing and questionable.. Kason tries hard to keep this secret hidden and all its symptoms, but it FESTERS on him to a point of TAKING OVER HIS WHOLE BODY... This secret, is an Addiction that Kason has had most of his life and HE CANNOT STOP CRAVING HIS ADDICTION AND THE CRAVE KEEPS HIM WANTING MORE!!!!!!

Cravings come in all sorts. Some are good and some we hide as our dirty little secret. This is a story that is between Kason and Adaline. Being a sex addict controls Kason like he is being held in a vice grip. He cannot control it despite his love for Adeline.
Adeline is a sweet and innocent young adult who is dealing with her own stresses in life. She has to grow up rather quickly when she is being outcastes from her family and also in the light of Kason's confession's.
    E. K. Blair has done a fantastic job in highlighting the daily struggles that a sex addict faces and in bring this addiction to everyone's attention. I really loved the characters that she created for the story. Kason, Adeline, Micha and Trent are all really relatable and most of all loveable.

When I started Crave: Part One I didn’t know what I’ll be getting into, but wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! I am so in love with this book!! It is just so emotional and just utterly perfection!

I haven’t ever read a book like this. It is so utterly amazing with a difficult and underrated topic. It’s really great how E.K. Blair managed to describe Kason’s addiction so great. How he struggled and everything Kason and Adaline had to go through. It is really an amazing story with a great meaning and even more emotions. Yes, Crave is something different and it’s really refreshing to read a book like this. It is beautiful and heartbreaking. I am so in love with Kason and Adaline I couldn’t put the book down. Seriously I think I’ve never read a book this fast. I started with book one and when I finished it I continued book two right away. Definitely one of the best books I’ve ever read.

Crave Part One (Crave Duet #1) by EK Blair
    4 stars!!!

“When I think about how pure she is, it only reminds me how dirty I am.”

EK Blair shows another side to her writing with Crave. This was so not what I was expecting. EK Blair to me, is dark, a little taboo, with erotic adults who like to explore their sexual side. Crave is about young adults (although this is NOT a YA book) as EK Blair still regales us with her trademark sex scenes. Crave was emotional, of course a little screwed up, I mean EK has to show her face somewhere, but it explores a side to teenagers that is not often explored in books.

“I don’t ever want you to feel insecure with me, because you are exactly what I want. Because when you touch me, it means so much more that what anyone else could ever give me…”

Adaline is the new girl in town, relocating due to her mother’s work. Starting a new school near the end of the school year is always difficult. Cliques are already in place and being in a private school, social tiers are prevalent, a hierarchy of sorts and a newcomer is never welcome. Ady falls into friendship with one of the popular boys and soon finds herself attracted to one of his quiet, unassuming friends. Ady, albeit from an affluent family had her own issues. Abandonment issues were at the top of them. Having been rejected by her father after once being the apple of his eye has been hard for her take and understand, and now him having a new family only exacerbates the chasm that has already formed.

“The two of us stare into each other’s brokenness, and I swear I can feel him breathing through the holes of my wounds when he begs…”

Kason is the boy from the wrong side of the tracks, only attending school due to some strings pulled and a scholarship. Kason is extremely intelligent and sees this opportunity as his ticket out of poverty. Kason is a hard worker, putting in all the hours to earn enough money to then fund university. Kason was intriguing from the get go, there was something about him that you knew made him vulnerable and it was this vulnerability that made the reader want to protect him at all costs.

“It wasn’t until Adaline came into the mix that I started to see how corrosive this craving was. It’s made me lose the one thing I never wanted to lose.”

There is a reason that this synopsis is really vague and as such, my review, too, will be vague. The author has cleverly concealed the true direction of this book and that is something I want to preserve as the journey that these characters take is one you need to experience as the author intended. As ever with an EK Blair read this book is chock full of emotion, but of a totally different kind to her norm. It is this emotion and intense character connection that makes you experience the highs and lows, you run the gamut of emotions with these characters and I often found myself trying to relate their journey to the experiences that I went through in my mid to late teens too. I felt everything that these two went through, their pain, their guilt, their insecurities, their vulnerabilities, their connection, their love, but most of all, I believed in them as a couple.

“She understands me when I don’t even understand myself. She’s forgiving when I refuse to forgive the things I’ve done. And she gives me hope in the eye of hopelessness.”

I adored every single character in this book. EK Blair really plays her trump card by delivering real, relatable characters that are fun to be around and despite their wealth have that air of normality. The dialogue and the banter between them was perfect, suited their age and their situation. When this author writes her more adult books I find myself totally consumed by her words, even if I do have to look a few up in a dictionary. With Crave, the prose was tailored to the age of her characters while still retaining the trademark EK Blair style.

“My body hunches over, and I cry because the one man who was never supposed to break my heart is the man who completely shattered it.”

I cannot wait for the concluding part, seriously, EK Blair knows how to get her hooks into you and leave you hanging for the next morsel she dares to chuck your way. These characters literally entrench themselves into your heart and Kason, in particular, was a character where my mother bear instincts went into overdrive. I am desperate for the next one, it seriously cannot come quick enough. Fabulous job EK Blair.
