ASHLYN I went against all I believed in and fell in love with what should have been a one-night stand! I fought it, tried to make up rules to prevent the inevitable, but somehow, he knew all along. He understood what I wanted and was willing to comply. I was the one who took him for granted. I was the one who made him walk away. And now, he’s gone and I’m left with nothing but my thoughts and regrets. He was never supposed to be my happily ever after. But my favorite love story ends in tragedy, so why wouldn’t mine? RYDER I played the white knight, doing what every woman dreams of to win her over, yet it still got me nowhere! But what did I expect? I wasn’t the man she wanted! Nothing I could have done would have landed me the girl. I guess love is funny that way. One minute, you think you have the girl, and the next, you realize you were blinded. Walking away was hard, but watching her with another man was harder. Sometimes you have to pick your battles, and I know when I’ve lost. Love shouldn’t be a game, but I learned someone always loses. For once, I wasn’t the one being selfish, but I was the one who paid the price.
Shantel is a USA Today & Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author. She lives in Oklahoma with her high school sweetheart, who is a wonderful, supportive husband and their two daughters. She loves to spend time cuddled up on the couch with a good book. Although she has a passion to write, her family is most important to her.
What an amazing book. I loved it! It was filled with passion, suspense and steamy romance. Selfless is a book about the relationship between Ashlyn and Ryder. Ryder is very possessive of his woman. His caveman/alpha male instincts exude sexiness, if that’s your type of thing. Ashlyn is an interesting character. She was a lot stronger than she looked. I loved how she stood up to Ryder and put him in his place often. Getting to see them work out their relationship was really great. It was nice to see the two of them finally working through their problems and coming out a stronger couple.
"You asked why you? Because, baby, in a world full of ordinary, you're magic."~Ryder
All in all, I liked this book. I thought the relationship dynamics were great, and the storyline was interesting. It's my kind of favorite book genre: romance with erotica and a twist of suspense!
If you read my review for the previous book for this couple, Selfish, then you know that I had issues with it. It didn't start off very well for me but I got really interested by the end and just had to continue on and see how Ryder and Ashlyn's story concluded.
And in the beginning of this second book for them I was so happy with myself for not giving up because I was enjoying their angst-ridden adventure. It was a little over the top at times, and I wanted to smack Ryder upside the head for not just listening, but I was intrigued by it all. So I got over my issues with wanting to shove Ryder down some stairs (Yes, I do know I have some anger issues).
But then the last 40% or so happened, and nothing could have let me get over that. There were just too many players on the field and the Ref really needed to blow his whistle. It was like watching a soap opera or something and every time I thought the drama's were going to stop popping up I was proven wrong when two more things would happen. It was one thing after/during the other and it never seemed to end. People you hadn't heard about since the beginning of the book were involved, then a person from the heroines past somehow got involved with a person from the heroes past, secondary characters had drama that got involved. It. Was. Just. So. Much.
So yeah I kind of bombed with this couple yet again. But I'm glad I read their story since the overall plot was interesting. I skipped over Becca's book since I was confused as to why that came in the middle of Ashlyn's two books anyway, and there were probably a few spoilers about Becca (I don't know if these were things you find out in her own book since I haven't read it) so I would recommend reading all three books in order.
There's no shortage of drama I loved it! and it reminded me of a family soap opera, almost dynasty or Dallas style with the devious mother, and other things that took place.
The series starts with Selfish when Becca and Ashlyn who are best friends take a holiday. A one night stand turns into a dilemma then more when Ashlyn discovers the guy who rocked her world is Ryder, Becca's brother who has come to surprise Becca on her vacation.
The second book is Myself and is Becca and Jaycent's story. Jaycent is Ryders best friend and so they hide their relationship from Ryder, this book too isnt without its dramas. The series then goes back to Ashlyn and Ryders story.
All three books aren't classed as a trilogy but they kind of are. I don't think you could read any of the books as a standalone and Selfless is the conclusion of the first book after it finishing on cliffhanger.
One think I didn't like was about 35% of this book is a repeat word for word of what I had just read in the previous book? if it was told from a different angle I would of had no issue with that but it was the same everything including conversations but from Ashlyn or Ryder's pov instead wheras in the previous book it was Becca or Jaycent's. This was my only negative.
In summary this is a great read from Selfish through to Selfless. I loved the drama's, the hotness, the swoon worthy moments and the characters.
These three books I found myself getting lost in, lost in the whole soap opera feel of it all.
Everything I love about Contemporary romance is In these books. Highly recommended.
Told in dual pov's. Leads to heartwarming happy ever after all round.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
Selfless is the third book in Shantel Tessier's Selfish Series. I would highly recommend you read the first two books in the series Selfish and Myself first. Or at the very least Selfish since the couple in Selfless meet in Selfish.
Ashyln went against all she believed in and fell in love with what should have been her one nigh stand. She fought for it, tried to make up rules to prevent the inevitable, yet somehow he knew all along. He knew what she wanted and was willing to give it to her. Ashlyn though, took hi for granted and made him walk away. Now that he is gone Ashlyn is left with nothing but her thoughts and regrets. He wasn't suppose to be her happily ever after. But Ashlyn's favorite love story ends in tragedy. Why shouldn't hers?
Ryder played the white knight. He did everything he possible could to win Ashlyn over yet it got him nowhere. Other women would have been falling at his feet. Not Ashlyn though. He wasn't the man she really wanted so nothing he did was going to land him the girl. Love is funny and makes you blind to thinking you have the girl one minute and the next she is gone. Walking away was hard, but watching her with another man was harder. Some battles have to be picked but Ryder is smart enough to know when he has lost. Love shouldn't be a game but he learned someone always loses. For the first time in his life he was not being selfish. However hew as the one who paid the price.
I loved this book. Heck I loved Ryder and Ashlyn in the first book Selfish. I am so glad they got an ending I was disappointed when it didn't happen in either Selfless or Myself. I could not wait to dive in. I love Ryder. I love how he is imperfect and learns as he goes. I loved watching the change in him as i read this book. Heck I loved the journey with both of these characters. I will tell you though that Ryder is frustrating in this book. Like I want to grab him and rind his neck frustrating at times. However it is all about falling in real true last forever love and mistakes are bound to be made. We all have to learn that do not jump to conclusions lesson at some point in our lives. And boy oh boy did it take Ryder a while to learn it. Poor Ashlyn, I don't see how she isn't at her whits end at times since Ryder doesn't seem to listen at all. This book has it all!! Laughter, tears, anger, frustration. I found myself cracking up at just exactly the moment I needed it. This is a love story you do not want to miss.
Shantel Tessier has done an amazing job with this entire series. I can not wait to see what she comes out with next.
Right up front, I want to say that I re-read the whole series in one go. Not only did I want to refresh my memory, but I remembered how great the story is. While Selfless is in dual POV from Ryder's and Ashlyn's sides, we also get a bow on top of Jacent & Becca's story.
I dug that there were a couple of twists near the end, although nothing earth-shattering. If Vicki were a real person I'd track her down just to rip her hair out. For realsies. She's the worst. One of the pleasant surprises was a substantial side-story involving Mr. O'Kane. I like him very much, and was interested in the part he played as well.
Shenanigans abound, even as the story starts, because that's where we left off at the end of Selfish. That's the first book in the trilogy, and it's the beginning of Ashlyn and Ryder's story. I'll interject here that reading the three books in order (with Myself second) is the way to go. Seeing the events from Jaycent and Becca's POV is crucial to the final chapter.
Ryder and Ashlyn have a lot to overcome. Most of it is miscommunication, but some of that isn't exactly their fault. (oooh, intrigue!) Ry is super jealous, and Ash needs to get over her insecurities. I was really frustrated by her inability to get over the money thing. The O'Kane's were super rich, and Ryder was cool with whatever she wanted to do - so... what's the sitch, amirite?
Seeing Jaycent and Becca become more of a couple, and "come out" to Ryder was really great. They had a bumpy road too, and needed resolution. Both of them got some juicy bits as well, so they weren't left out at all.
All in all, Selfless wrapped up the series nicely, and it kept my attention from beginning to end.
I love Ashlyn and Ryder, their story is so good I am glad we have another book by them. They are amazing characters. This book is full of LOL parts and some sad parts at times, So much emotion while reading.
I was shouting at my kindle at times they were winding me up so much, I wanted to jump in the book at one point and bang their heads together. But these two are so good together, I love the chemistry they have it is off the charts. This book is so good and I fell in love with Ryder even more. Ryder and Ashlyns story will take you on a rollercoaster of a ride and will have you on the edge of your seat wondering how it will all end. I loved the writing, I started this book and I did not move until I finished the last page.
This couple will be with me for a long while they are one of my favourite couples I have laughed and had a few tears reading this one Shantel makes you feel what the characters feel like you are right there with them rooting for them. I cannot wait to see what Shantel brings us next...
Words cannot describe how much I love this series! Shantel is seriously becoming my most favorite author. I can't stop reading her books.
We are back to Ryder and Ashlyn. These two are seriously meant to be. I love how they interact with each other, even though they are still struggling when it comes to their relationship. I freaking hate Ryder's and Becca's mom!!! I wanted to throat punch here throughout this whole series!!! I love how Shantel also brought it Seven Deadly Sins club, and some of the characters. That was a very nice surprise
So what can I say about this book or about this series as a whole. It kept me guessing what was going to happen. Which is something is hard for a book to to do, for me. I can usually figure out the plot by the third chapter. Ryder is one of my favorite kinda of guy. Alpha when he needs to be. Loved the story.
This whole series had me on the edge of my seat. This is the 3rd story in this series and it is not a standalone. Through this book I laughed, cried and got angry. You feel so much when you read this story. Not just this one all of the stories in this 3 book series. You fall in love with the characters and you don't want it to end. I volunteered to read an advanced readers copy of this book
This book has took on journey of emotions that didn’t expected. It has everything you want with beautiful playful edge that can’t help hook you in. The characters are so lost that you can honestly see them go through journey of discovery of love and themselves. What a beautiful but sorrowful ending to a intriguing loving love story.
Spoilers and rants beyond this point so read at your own risk.
First things first, I should have known better than to continue on. Once I downloaded this from KU I knew once I seen how many pages were in this that some cheap plot twists were going to happen.
At least that didn’t disappoint me.
There were some portions of this book that were okay for me, but the bad just really outshined the good.
Problem uno - you just gonna throw her mom losing a baby in SIDS in the plot and then act like it’s no big deal? Like, her mom is really just going to bring it up casual as fuck like that? This just felt like some small piece of information that helped You mean to tell me it’s not going to resurface when Ashlyn and Ryder have their kid? Nahhhh.
Problem dos - okay but she’s going to lose a baby, and then just say “I still cry about it sometimes.” Like you’re really going to pass up the opportunity to take us on that emotional journey?! So much more could have been done with this and it just earned an eye roll from me instead of any empathy.
Problem tres - we spend sooooo much fucking time hearing about how Ashlyn doesn’t belong in this world and how she doesn’t feel comfortable but we never get ANY resolution to this! There is no moment in this entire story that Ryder makes her feel at ease with her new lifestyle. Like, it was unneeded conflict, and ridiculously irrelevant in the long term.
Side note: I really thought at the end Ashlyn was dead and Ryder was about to be raising a baby alone. And as sick, twisted and demented as it is - it actually renewed my interest in the story. It was the one plot twist I didn’t see coming the entire time!
I would have been more inclined to love this story if it was one book, with better relationship and character development, sans the cheap plot devices and total disregard for serious matters.
⭐️ 4.5 STARS ⭐️ Ashlyn and Ryder took me on a passionate ride since their first book and I was so excited to finally get my hands on the completion of their story. Selfless was everything I wanted. It’s angsty, sweet, passionate and you get unexpected revelations to keep the story gripping. Shantel Tessier definitely kept me on the edge from start to finish with this novel.
A huge part of the first half of the book is about miscommunication and heartbreak. Ryder is a really stubborn man and his pride and heart are hurt after the final events of Selfish. I really liked the angst of this section of the story. You clearly see they both struggle without each other in their life. The kind of love they share is so beautiful, but also fills with suffering. They need to learn to trust each other and this story shows how they slowly develop their still young love into something powerful. I enjoyed seeing their romance take this turn to a meaningful relationship.
Selfless is the conclusion I was waiting for. It left me on a very high note.
** ARC received in exchange for an honest review **
These two finally got their HEA!!! And what a bumpy road it was to get there. Jeez these two were stressful, lol.
This story picked up from where they left off with Ryder misunderstanding stuff. Some of this I read in Jaycent & Becca story. At times I wanted to strangle Ryder.
When Ryder and Ashlyn stopped being stubborn and figured things out they were a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately they were others still trying to separate them.
They were times I was waiting for the other shoe to drop because trust me they were lots of incidents that I thought was going to result in them breaking up again but it resulted being something else. This story had lots of twists.
Poor Ashlyn went thru so much but always came out on top. Ryder and Ashlyn loved each other hard. The ending was heartbreaking and beautiful all wrapped in one. They were lots of shockers in the ending.
what an amazing conclusion to an amazing series! this is a must read for everyone who had problems with a man cause he's an idiot and doesn't listen! lol between crazy ex's and hairless cat's Ashlyn and Ryder just need a break to be perfectly happy for awhile! definite re-read material!
The conclusion of the Selfish Series is everything I could have asked for and more! Ashlyn and Ryder’s story began in book 1 (Selfish) and we got Becca and Jaycent’s story in book 2 (Myself) and now we finally get the conclusion of Ashlyn and Ryder’s story in Selfless, and oh my goodness, was it a crazy ride that Shantel Tessier took us on!
With a huge misunderstanding between Ashlyn and Ryder, and Ryder refusing to listen to anyone, I knew it was going to be hard to get these two back together, but when Ryder finally sees how wrong he was, I loved how he pursued Ashlyn to get her back. We got to see part of this in Myself, but seeing it from his and Ashlyn’s point of view.. WOW, I couldn’t stop laughing. As much as these two care for one another, I understood Ashlyn’s hesitancy in going back to Ryder. He hurt her and she didn’t want to put her heart back on the line for someone that could truly break her again. Watching these two with their cat and mouse game was hilarious and angsty all at the same time.
With these two finally figuring things out, you’d think everything would be wonderful, but there’s still drama for them as well as Becca and Jaycent. Becca and Ryder’s mother is still as crazy as ever, Bradley, Ashlyn’s ex best friend, won’t go away, and Vicki, Ryder’s crazy stalker lady, is still in the picture. Everything seems to stand in the way of all of them getting their true happily ever after and so many curve balls are thrown at all of them. Even though this book was told only in Ryder and Ashlyn’s point of view, I adored that we also got to see how things were going for Becca and Jaycent as well, especially since their relationship is now out in the open.
So much happens in this book that really can’t be talked about in the review, especially for readers who haven’t read the series, or without giving any spoilers away, but I will say.. If you are a lover of angsty romance this series is a must read! Ryder and Ashlyn’s love story ended in a truly perfect manner, the only thing I could have wished for was that we would have had a longer ending. I felt as if everything towards the end was a bit too rushed. I would have liked the last few chapters to have been longer, instead of glimpses into what happened. I really hope one day Shantel Tessier will give us a novella with these four amazing characters so we can catch up on them, as I truly wasn’t ready to say goodbye to characters yet, but series is a definite must read!
Let me begin this review by saying that I accidentally stumbled upon the entire trilogy (and Shantel Tessier) when I read what I thought was a standalone book. Little did I know that Myself was the first book in the selfish trilogy and at the time was the only book written in said trilogy. Me not being a patient person, I anxiously waited for the next two books to be written and devoured them the second they were made available. During this wait between books though my expectations grew and I came to expect a LOT from Selfless. I couldn't wait for Selfless to be made available and couldn't wait to dive in, but at the same time I was scared. Expectations can ruin a book faster than almost anything, I didn't want this to be an entire series ruined because I'd set my expectations too high. Remember earlier when I said that I devoured the next two books the second they were made available? That's no joke. I started reading Selfless yesterday morning (around 7:15) and finished reading it last night (before 10.) Now I can honestly say, holy freaking smokes! Every expectation was met and then some! Not only were the developing relationships focused on, but there were enough plot twists and turns that I almost felt the need to take a motion sickness pill--so not a bad thing! This isn't some psychological thriller or anything of that nature, but it's also not your run of the mill steamy romance (though it's plenty steamy!) Selfless didn't disappoint or ruin an entire trilogy by going off the deep end. I won't spoil anything for you, but if you're on the fence about whether you should continue visiting the lives of Ryder, Ashlyn, Jaycent, and Becca do yourself a favor and start reading! I'd suggest doing so in a judgement free zone and with clean panties available because the book is funny, heartfelt, and just plain hot!
Ashlyn and Ryder's story begins in Selfish which was book 1 and then we got Becca’s story in book2 and now we are back to Ashlyn and Ryder's story in the final book in the series which is Selfless in this series. In this series we saw this meet on their fun filled vacation in Florida. Then they continued their relationship when she moved to NYC to start work after college and that is really when she and Ryder fall head over heels in love. Things were going great until they have this huge fight which then leaves this book in a huge cliffhanger. This book picks up the Ashlyn/Ryder drama in Selfless and finishes their love story out. This was an emotional love roller coaster. I didn’t know how many times I wanted to yell at Ryder and also smack at him for being such a dense jerk. He didn’t give Ashlyn enough respect at times but I understand why he misunderstood some things the way he did. Ashlyn definitely had A LOT of heartbreak and she took a stand and made sure to make him work his way back into her good graces and what a way he did . She is sassy and classy with how she did it, and I totally enjoyed every moment of it. I have to say Ryder’s mother- she is one nasty piece of work and my heart hurt for everyone around involved. She did so many bad things… There is a lot of complicated and emotional moments in this story, especially after a surprise after surprise gets sprung up. I literally was on the edge of my seat until the very end and was sad to see this series end for I loved all the characters introduced. The passion, angst, love, and loyalty is so strong and true in this series. Shantel is a talented writer and has a very gifted way with words because those words will grasp you and take you places.
My Rating: 4.8 stars ***** "I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
** ARC provided by the author for an honest review **
First, they were selfish, now they will be selfless. Shantel Tessier’s conclusion to the Selfish trilogy, Selfless takes us back to where Ashlyn and Ryder’s story left off.
Ryder and Ashlyn had a massive blow up the last we heard from them. Ashlyn tried to explain what was going on but Ryder didn’t want to listen. Now she is left feeling guilty and growing tired of trying to rectify the situation. She is close to giving up on ever being with the man she loves.
Ryder jumps to his own conclusions based on what he saw. He doesn’t need an explanation. He remembers with perfect clarity. He still wants her. The way she tells it there is a reasonable explanation for everything. Can he find it in himself to at least listen to what she has to say?
Man, oh man Ryder is a stubborn a**! Give a girl a chance to talk will ya! It has been a struggle to get to where they are at the beginning of this book, and from there the struggle continues. We wrap up the story of Ashlyn and Ryder, and get a more satisfying ending for Becca and Jaycent. There are many twists and turns that you will never see coming. I am dying to tell you but I think it’s better for you to find out for yourself!
Angst. Humor. Love. Lust. Hate. This book, no this series has it all. It keeps you guessing until the end. The surprises, some good and some bad, will keep you turning the pages well into the night. I am sleep deprived as I write this, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I loved, loved, loved these couples and their journeys to find love. I need to stop typing before I accidentally give something away. FOUR selfless stars!!!
First off I have been not so patiently waiting for this book since I read selfish & was so excited when it landed on my tablet! Ryder was sweet, swoony & dirty talked you into falling for his charms as he is making Ashlyn his. When you begin their story Ryder is a cocky manwhore who hasn't & doesn't want anything more, he is happy with how life is. This book shows what happens after Ashlyn doesn't tell Ryder her friend is coming to visit & Ryder completely jumps to conclusions. This book truly reminds u of the age old saying u don't know what you have until it's gone. I love Ashlyn's character, she is strong & passionate. Her strength shows when she realizes she has sulked enough over this break up. Ryder seems to lose himself for a while, but that is perfect for how cocky he is in the 1st book. When they both begin to fight for each other, it's almost like when it rains it pours, because if someone or something is going to go wrong it happens to them. The story of their ending or beginning, is amazingly written. The way they work through & put the work into their relationship, they find themselves being able to deal with everything around them. Ashlyn is strong, but stronger with & for Ryder. This story will make u smile, laugh & cry. It was an emotional roller coaster that I never wanted to end. Be prepared to fall in love with the book & the author.
SELFLESS is book three in the Selfish series and is the mind boggling conclusion to a rollercoaster of a story! I've reviewed books one and two and talked mostly about the main characters involved: Ashlyn, Becca, Ryder and Jaycent (so go read my other reviews if you want more information on them..wink, wink!). Now I want to focus on the storyline and the way Shantel Tessier laid it all out for us to read. Honestly, I went back and forth between loving it and loathing it! Not the actual story..I adored that Ash/Ryder and Becca/Jaycent found their happy ending together (respectively). I loved getting the perspectives of the four major characters but I didn't like that parts of the story were simply retold. I'm also not a huge fan of cliffhangers but I realize that sometimes, the AGONY of waiting makes the story better, enhances it! HOWEVER, Ms. Tessier threw a curveball with the insertion of book two, Becca and Jaycent's story, in between Rdyer and Ashlyn's story. And this is my dilemma! I DEFINITELY had to read book three because I NEEDED to finish Ashlyn and Ryder's tale and I wanted to read (and enjoyed) Jaycent and Becca's story but I'm not sure I agreed with way it was actually formatted. Hmmm...was this a genius play from a mastermind or a an evil twist to keep me reading?!?! (LOL...I still love your books Ms. Tessier!!) You decide! Told from dual POVs with a happy ending for everyone. I received, read and voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is the conclusion to Ryder and Ashlyn’s story, it is important that you read Selfish before you read this book. After the jaw dropping conclusion in book 1 I was so happy I had this book waiting for me. I really enjoyed it. There was so many emotional moments between these characters and there was also plenty of laugh out loud moments as well it.
Ryder didn’t have a stellar reputation when we first were introduced to him but Ashlyn did bring changes in him. So naturally thinking the worst happens he’s left a mess. Ryder is literally lost without Ashlyn and the author developed his journey well in detailing his emotions and the turmoil he faced. Ashlyn is a great character. She made a mistake but Ryder believed the worst of her. She also took it hard but she also picks herself up and brings her A game.
Communication is key in a relationship without it their is chaos and this book was the perfect example of this. When these two finally get things together we see how much they’ve growth they have since being apart. They both fight for their relationship not only between themselves but also against those who will do anything to tear them apart. I loved the added twists this author added to this story and I loved how everything was tied up nicely. This was a great ending to Ryder and Ashlyn story. Highly recommend.
1. I didn’t read book 2. I skipped ahead. I feel like Selfish and Selfless could have just been a duet following the same couple.
2. I love Shantel’s writing, but this had so many typos and formatting issues, especially with dialogue. I’m just a little neurodivergent, so I pick up the breaks in patterns very easily and it disrupts my reading a bit.
Okay, this book wasn’t as fun or intriguing as Selfish. Maybe because I knew the characters? I don’t know. It is a HEA and everything is addressed and wrapped up, albeit quickly at the end.
That said there was a lot of drama around the couples (I’m including Becca and Jaycent even though this book is told from the POV of Ashlyn and Ryder). So many things happened. So many twists and turns. Just wow.
It was enough to keep my attention and get through the story of these two. I’m still a Ryder fan. Man, I love every one of the men that Shantel writes. She just speaks my book boyfriend language!
Overall, the story was okay. The HEA worked, but not really fireworks for me. The ending and the wrap up of all the drama was so quick. Like the epilogue is just reminiscing about how everything unfolded. I would have liked to experience it, rather than just being told. It was an okay end to what I feel like is a decent duet. Like I said, I didn’t read Becca’s book, which is listed as book 2. Maybe later.
**I thought my Selfish heart was done for, but Selfless had me in pieces and then whole again**
This author does it once again, she closed out this series with my heart all over the place. Oh my goodness, I thought my heart was done for, when she had me in pieces at the end of book 1.
But I am getting ahead of myself. Selfless is book 3 of the Selfish Series and the author ended it with a freakin bang! We pick up with the ever loving stubborn headed Ryder who is slowly coming to terms with the fact that he is IN LOVE!!
Ashlyn is strong and determined, but when her struggles makes her want to pack it up and give up, its Becca her best friend that is more of a sister and helps to get her through it all.
Ryder and Ashlyn write their own Romeo and Juliet story, and what a story it is!
This book had so much; heartbreak, steamy hot scenes (because well every Queen needs her throne) fights, redemption, friendship and everlasting love that sees you through more heartbreak.
You will not be disappointed with this series! As always I ask myself, would I read this author again, HELL to the YEAH!!! Would I recommend this book to my friends? YES Everyone of them!! I look forward to whatever this author writes next!
This is the third in the Selfish trilogy but do yourself a favor and read them all. I just love Shantel’s writing and this book just reminds me why! In Selfless, Ashlyn and Ryder’s story continues. Ryder jumps to the wrong conclusions most of the time and refuses to listen when anyone tries to explain. He is stubborn and pig headed. At times he would make me so mad and then a little later he would make me smile. Ashlyn, a little naïve but a strong woman, handled herself like a woman in love. Sometimes she thought that she was not in the same class as Ryder, but she proved that she was a better class than some of the other characters throughout the book. This book had me laughing, in a few places I teared up and sometimes I just gasped. I loved the twists that were thrown at this couple. Even their best friends, Jaycent and Becca got in the act. I loved the way this ended, it left me sighing. Once I started this book I could not put it down. It drew me in and hooked me till it was over! I know you will enjoy it as much as I did. I can’t wait to see what Shantel has in store for us next.
Selfless is the third book in Shantell Tessier's Selfish series. It's technically a continuation of Book One, Selfish, as it continues the story of Ryder and Ashlyn's relationship. Book Two, Myself, primarily tells the story of Becca (Ryder's sister and Ashlyn's best friend) and Jaycent (Ryder's best friend), although there are pieces of Ryder and Ashlyn's relationship, as told from Becca and Jaycent's perspective. Shantell often does this in her stories (gives you a more objective perspective from a character who is indirectly involved) and I really enjoy it.
For those of you who are like me and prefer to read a complete series from beginning to end, the time has come to read the Selfish series. Shantell is a wonderful story teller and weaves tales of people who have flaws; but you can't help but like them even if, at times, they're not acting very likable. She injects the right amount of heat in all the right places, yet it fits and stays true to the story. By the time you finish the book you know the characters quite well and are a bit saddened it's over because you wish you could learn more about their future.
I wanted to scream at every single character in this book on numerous occasions! There was so much betrayal, lying, manipulation, back stabbing drama! It just kept going and going. But above all that there was undeniable love and friendship and trust. It seemed like Ashlyn and Ryder had to hit rock bottom before they could both see how they clearly felt for one another and admit it not only to themselves but to each other.
This read had so many twists and turns and sudden impacts! My head was spinning from one chapter to the next!
Parts of this book seemed a little abrupt or short for how dramatic the scene or exchange was. But overall this read was addiction and I couldn't put it down! I was so invested in all 4 of the main characters and their successes and failures. I absolutely loved the twist at the end and how it shaped the last few chapters of the book. The ending was nothing short of amazing and brought a huge smile to my face. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome for Ashlyn, Ryder, Becca and Jaycent.
I had to skip over book 2 to finish this for my own closure of Ashlyn and Ryder, and I am glad I did.
Another quick good read with lots of spice and some drama I was not prepared for! New siblings. Secret affairs. False pregnancy pills. Accidental pregnancy. Delusional ex lovers. Attempted murder. 😮💨 no wonder I couldn’t put this down. Oh and can we talk about Ryders reaction to Harry. I think I almost pissed myself laughing so hard. Hahahahaha LARGE RAT. ALSO when she stormed into his meeting and then he interrupted her date with Nick. (Omg you kissed your brother!?) ⚰️ 🤣
I’m very happy that everyone got their HEA. I needed that after Shantel stepped all over my heart. And then put it through a meat grinder with Dash ❤️
Also, I think Ryder just became my new book boyfriend. Over GG. Which is a lot. And no. Not because he’s stupid rich. But he’s a lot like GG but a bit more possessive and unhinged hah.

Selfless by Shantel Tessier is the third book in the Selfish Series and the conclusion. Ashlyn fell in love with Ryder. But in typical Ryder style he sees one thing, comes to a false conclusion and acts like a neanderthal. He breaks up with her and drowns his sorrow in selfpity and alcohol. Ashlyn is left behind to pit her life back together all alone. Selfless is not a standalone. I highly recommend to read Selfish and Myself first. In Selfless comes more secrets, more lies, more betrayal by supposed friends and more evil to the light. Selfless is full of unexpected twists and turns, turns that left me breathless.
Favorite Quote : " I never knew loving someone could be so painful. " I love the book, the story and the writing. I recommend Selfless and give 5 stars. Thank you, Shantel Tessier.
I Voluntarily Reviewed an Avanced Reader Copy of this book!
First off let me say that I love this author. I am always jonsing for one of her reads. I believe that I was so excited to read this that I hyped myself up a little to much. This was just an okay read for me. I felt like it didn't fit the bill and it felt a little rushed to me. The Ryder & Ashlyn love story needed more. So much more! I can't put my words to say exactly what, but I wanted so much more. I almost feel a little deceived. The first book about their love story was sooo good that I was dying to read the conclusion. Then "Myself" came out and it only prolonged my longing for Selfless. The first two were great, but this one fell below the mark and I hate to say it, but I wonder if there was a distraction during her writing that didn't allow her to reach her full potential in this conclusion.
