Big Shot: A Second Chance Standalone Romance Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 201 ratings

A sizzling second-chance standalone romance proving love defies time...

Jace Bennett is the kind of man you will love forever.

Tall, dark, and brooding, there is something about him that makes your lashes flutter, and your heart pound every time you lay eyes on him.

It could be that slow, sexy smile or his filthy, dirty mouth. It could be the way he makes you feel like you are the only thing that matters. Or perhaps it's because it only takes one smoldering look from him to make you go weak in the knees.

I haven't seen him since the day I walked away from him. And yet seeing him now, I can't deny I want him back.

No matter how much time passes, he will always be that hot college guy sitting on the counter at a frat house drinking a beer. The hot, gorgeous one. The guy I knew I wanted to marry before I even said my first hello.

From what I can tell though, he doesn't think I'm the same girl I once had been. To him, I'm just the one he let slip away. Somebody he used to know.

The thing that sucks about love--there is never any going back to the way things were.

But somehow I have to learn to deal with that because like it or not...I'm stuck with him.
Or rather, he's stuck with me.

You see I'm his new employee.
The one he unknowingly hired to help save his company...
and this time I'm not going anywhere.

This is the perfect book for when you want some light hearted fun. I giggled, cried and swooned. Brilliant story and great characters.

Back in college, Jace Bennett, with all of the arrogance and impulsiveness that comes with being a young man with the world at his feet, decided to go after the girl, even though she was dating his best friend at the time. After all, he saw her first, and Ethan had always been keen on the idea of a threesome, what could possibly go wrong.

So after they both lost her, Jace losing everything he'd never before realized he wanted in the process, life moved on.

Ten years later, now a widower and single father, attempting to set to rights an incident at his daughter's new kindy, Jace comes face to face with the mother of the other child involved, Hannah Crestfall, formerly Hannah Michaels. The girl from college, the one that got away.

In Big Shot, Author Kim Karr tells the story of two star crossed lovers, now both single parents whose past is a convoluted, sordid, sexy, and sad as you could ever wish for.

In the telling, she alternates, not just between Jace and Hannah as narrators, but between Present and Past, with the present unfolding from Jace's point of view while Hannah, ever so slowly, brings the reader up to date on how things became almost perfectly right before it all went terribly wrong all those years ago.

Dragging out the mystery, the tension builds withing both narratives leaving the reader wondering if history is set to repeat itself or whether now, as adults, parents, and hopefully a little less hot-headed, these two can make their second chance work in a way that they couldn't manage back then.

To be honest, while erotic and titillating, the focus within the story on the subject of threesomes kind of left me feeling a little dirty, which I imagine was part of the point, as that reflected how Hannah in particular came to feel about the whole thing, The kind of things people get up to while they're young and carefree that they look back on in later years and simply wonder "What was I thinking?"

Beyond that though, I found the story, and the characters to be compelling. Each struggling with the myriad of emotions that are dredged up by the sudden reappearance of the other in their lives. All of which is complicated by their roles as parents where, romantic entanglements need to be managed in a way that doesn't negatively influence the kids.

Kids who, by the way, are absolutely adorable.

For all of the things that it made me feel though, even the uncomfortable feelings it dredged up, I found that I had absolutely no interest in putting it down or tearing myself away, and by the time I got to the end, I was more than glad for it.

    Utterly captivating.

It's been awhile since I've read a Kim Karr book and I've no idea why silly me.
I love reading second chance love stories and Kim gives us a great one featuring Jace and Hannah. We get the story from both perspectives and I'm the past. I liked the slow drip feed of their past history it helps us get a better understanding of what happened Bad what a complicated tortured history it was.
They started in an unusual way and meet again years later in challenging circumstances. The connection they felt all those years ago is still there but Jace can't move on as he feels like he's cheating. Hannah wants the past to be forgotten so they can move on but she feels like the other woman. I admired Hannah do much for realising her own worth and forging her own path in life. Jace took awhile to grow on me, he acts like a jerk at times which made me want to shake him but he has jus reasons.
A beautiful story about second chances, letting go of the past and fighting for the one person you want in your life.

We met Jace in Sexy Jerk in unusual circumstances *cough* the lonely widower who became a plaything for Fiona to spice up her marriage. Best friends with Fiona’s husband Ethan and our very own Sexy Jerk, Nick, since college. Ethan and Jace especially share a very colorful history in the form of Hannah 😉

Jace has been dogged by tragedy through his life, from the death of his parents at the age of ten to the loss of his wife before the age of 30 leaving him a single parent to a sassy 6-year-old. On top of all of this is his constant regret over the implosion of his first love, Hannah, and the emotional aftermath that plagues him to this day.

Big Shot is definitely not your average romance; the narrative alternates between point of view and past and present providing in depth understanding to the emotions and actions of the characters in the nuffed up circumstances they found themselves in. Big Shot shows that when a connection is as strong as the one between Hannah and Jace fate has a curious way of stepping in to providing a helping hand even if it does take the scenic route in order to get there.

Hannah and Jace met at a college party where the sparks instantly flew between them, unfortunately, circumstances left them without further contact until Hannah accepts a date from Ethan. Although Jace and Hannah are unable to deny the spark between them, bro code ensures Jace doesn’t cross any lines with Hannah that is until they all embark on a kinky interlude pushing the boundaries of their relationships and entering love triangle territory. It is obvious to everyone, including Ethan, that Hannah and Jace have deep feelings for each other, although Jace stubbornly refuses to man-up and admit the truth to himself and Ethan. Creating a tightrope they all have trouble balancing on. Inevitably, there is a crash but not necessarily in the way, you would expect. Hannah has her own issues stemming from her upbringing.

The first meeting between Jace and Hannah altered he course of Jace’s life, providing him with direction for the first time in his life and ultimately leading him to the lucrative career he has paved for himself. The re-introduction of Hannah into his life throws Jace for a loop, invading both his personal and professional life.

I absolutely adored Hannah and her capacity to compassion, lack of judgment and complete understanding. She was selfless but not a doormat, she was able to maintain her self-esteem in less than favorable circumstances. My heart hurt for Hannah at times, although each experience she endured has shaped the wonderful person she has become.

Jace on the other hand still has a lot of self-reflection to do through the course of Big Shot, learning to accept his actions and forgive himself for his mistakes. Only that way can he truly move forward and welcome the new phase of his life without recrimination or regret ♥ Hannah and Jace were meant to be ♥

    Five Amazing Stars

I am absolutely excited to to read this most wonderful second book from the thrilling series, Sexy Jerk. Written by the amazing Kim KarrAnother most exciting romantic sensation. I thoroughly adored this relationship between both Hannah and Jace Bennett Simply such a heartbreaker!

As Jace Bennett who had visited a completely new luncheon restaurant with a particular gorgeous lady, Amanda Woodward. Jace was in now bored out of his wits. He was uncomfortable trying to excite this other person. Nothing was going to work at all for Jace. Nothing now would ever get her attention. He now just felt like such a loss.

Jace kind of felt shocked now. She became aggressive. He was confused by her reaction. He had hopes she'd let him purchase those computer applications. Until he knew now he was about to give up. After have the death of his partner years he wasn't keen on meeting another female even though she was still coming onto me. But he still wanted this application that she could easily give to me. But Jace knew he could not follow her advances.

Then Amanda started coming on to Jace again. Yet he only wanted the program. He need it for his own Business. He made a Dating service. One that could end worth a lot of money too. Though Jace was now ready to give up now!!

I absolutely adored this marvellous sexy romantic tale. Such an adorable love story is truly is. I thoroughly just loved this most delicious beautiful book. A complete winner for me too!!

    * I recommend this book to everyone!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The only thing I can say is I LOVED THIS BOOK!

It's no secret that I am a huge Kim Karr fan.  I love her writing.  She has the unique ability to think outside of the box and take predictable plots to another level.  She also gives her characters complex personalities that come as a surprise as their character develops in a book.  I can honestly say that Big Shot is one of my favorite books by her so far.

Readers were introduced to Jace in Sexy Jerk.  Besides being a successful businessman, he is a single father and widower.  Readers were able to get a glimpse of him while he was bogged down with his grief and maneuvering parenthood.  We also got to see a bit of his kinky side as well, when he becomes the third in his best friend's bedroom.  The impressions readers were left with were intriguing.  We knew there had to be more to this man than what was initially presented.  It all goes back to ten years ago when he was a college student and fell hopelessly in love with his best friend's girl.  The twisted love triangle ended badly and none of them got their happily ever after.  They all moved on in life and found their special someone to build a future with.  Unfortunately for Jace, his happily ever after was ended abruptly and he was left alone with his darling daughter. His main focus in life is raising her.  When a bully from school upsets his daughter he does what any good parent does, he takes control of the situation.  When he confronts the bully's parent he's in for a complete surprise.  It was the girl he fell hopelessly in love with and lost ten years ago.  He doesn't want to want her and he can't stay away.  This time around he has life experience, maturity, and better coping mechanisms in his arsenal.  He's not going to let Hannah get away this time but first he has to let go of his grief.

Hannah never thought she would see Jace again after college.  When he turns up on her doorstep angry and defensive, she's shocked.  Dealing with him on a daily basis through their children's school functions is manageable.  What makes it worse is she was hired to work for his company.  Now she has to deal with him at work.  She's not the same girl she once was.  Her future took a very different path and now her priorities are making a good life for her and her son.

Hannah and Jace can't stay away from one another.  This time there isn't a third person in the bedroom to hold back their insatiable passion for one another.  The only thing standing in their way is themselves.  They will have to choose how they want to mold their futures.  The choice may be what fate intended for them all along.

The only thing I can say is I LOVED THIS BOOK!  Kim Karr explored all the emotions that most authors don't touch upon in menage type romances.  She showed the other side of the passion and the realities of the emotional repercussions.

I would highly recommend this book!

I liked this book so much that I ended up looking for the other books telling the stories of the other couples in this book. I was only able to find Sexy Jerk, the story of Tess and Nick. If anyone knows if there's a book about Fiona and Ethan as well, please drop it in a comment because I'd love to read it.

This story is about Jace, who is Nick and Ethan's best friend, they go way back to college days, and Hannah, who just so happens to be a blast from their past. They all had gone to college together. While there, there's this crazy love triangle involving Jace, Ethan and Hannah. Jace meets Hannah first at a party, but can't find her afterward, and by the time he runs into her again she is dating Ethan. She is dating Ethan, but really wants Jace. Neither one of them knows how to go about it, so they end up in this threesome that they manipulate Ethan into just so they can be together. Things don't end well. Jace ends up broken-hearted, and, while trying to mend his heart, he meets Tricia who he ends up marrying and having a child with. Years later she dies. He is depressed about it and doesn't know which way to go, and all of a sudden Hannah comes back into his life. He is blindsided by it to say the least. She had had quite a few changes in her life over the years, the main one being that she also had gotten married and had a child who just so happens to be the same age as Jace's daughter and they go to school together.

Once Jace and Hannah call somewhat of a truce and decide to become friends of sorts, they end up in another crazy love triangle, this time with Jace's dead wife who he feels like he is betraying somehow by going back to the woman he had loved before her and who Tricia had helped him get over.

All in all, their story touched my heart. Jace's heartbreak just felt so real. First he had to get over his love for Hannah and learn to let go, and just when he thought he found love again, the woman he adores ends up being taken away from him in a tragic way. He feels so lost and confused. He wants to offer his daughter a good life, but he is not able to let go of the memory of his dead wife while trying once again to build something with Hannah. In the end they do get their happy ending, and getting there was an emotional roller coaster, which was well worth the ride.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Unique Second Chance Romance

I knew that this was going to be a different type of romance given what I knew about their past. But I'm always enjoy a good second chance romance so I tried to go in open-minded.

This one skirts the line a bit when it comes to emotional cheating in their past and I think some readers will struggle with that. I know I struggled a little even if I understood the circumstances and the bigger picture.

And while I could see the connection of the past, I'm not sure if I could see why they worked in the present. Yes, they share glaring similarities but I think we dwelled too long on their past connection and not enough time exploring if what brought them together in the past was still there given how life has gone on.
