Innocent Joselyne Bennett loves her quiet life. As an elementary teacher her days include teaching kids then going home to research fun science projects to add to her lesson plan. Her only excitement is living vicariously through her sister Lorali and friend Alexa Warner.
Incredibly gorgeous police detective Kaleb Perez was going through the motions of life. His position on the force as a narcotics detective forced him to cross paths with Josie after a shooting involving her friend.
On more than one occasion Kaleb discretely tried to catch Josie’s eye. On every occasion he was ignored but when her hand is forced after a break-in at her apartment Josie and Kaleb are on a collision course with each other. Formerly timid Josie is coaxed out of her shell by the sexy-as-sin Kaleb who nurtures her inner sex-kitten in the most seductive ways, and replaces her inexperience with passionate need.
The small group has overcome so much in such a short period of time and just when they think they can settle back into their lives they are forced back into the unknown. Can Kaleb protect Josie from further tragedy? Can she let him go once the threat of danger is gone?
This is a standalone contemporary novel. The next book in the Hale Series: To Hale and Back is the conclusion of the series and in the point of view of all six characters.
Recommended for readers 18 and up due to strong language and explicit sexual content.
Marie James is a mother of two boys and wife of 17 years. She's spent most of her life lifetime living in central Texas, with only short stays in South Carolina, Alabama, and Florida. Her passions include reading everything under the sun and sewing, although she doesn't get to sew much these days!.
Writing has always been a passion and she's enjoying every step of the journey!
This is book#3 in this series about 2 sisters and their best friend. The older sister and best friend already have their books out,and this is the younger sister's path to happiness with her hot good looking Puerto Rican detective boyfriend. The setting is Denver,Co. The heroine is a 4th grade science teacher,22 years old recent college grad, had one prior bout of drunken sex which left a bad taste and no sex since, supposedly shy and insecure. The 2 MC's met in the prior books ,had an attraction, but the heroine was too insecure to catch on to the hero's subtle moves to get to know her.It takes a break in ,trashing of her apartment ,death threats written in blood for the heroine to finally get the needed push to be with the hero.He has her come stay with him at his house so she can be safe. When these 2 finally got together, they were like 2 very, and I mean very horny rabbits and they did it everywhere.Lots o sexxing between them. There was a bit of drama when the heroine was kidnapped for over sixteen days and starved, but she was finally rescued to safety and while hospitalized discovered she was pregnant, all the sexxing produced baby for the couple. Members of this author's MC series, Cerebus, were recruited by the hero to assist with the rescue mission.(Hero is cousin to the MC Prez,Kincade). I enjoyed this book, may read the first and will check out the MC series.

Detective Perez...my favorite from the moment he appeared in this series, and even more my favorite now, if that's possible.
Kaleb Perez has been trying to get Josie Bennett's attention for a while now. He's handing out his card like candy when she's around, and yet, she hasn't called.
But when danger comes to her door, the one person who can keep her safe is the one she's been too timid to approach before. Kaleb.
But just as she's opening up and losing her inhibitions, the danger comes at her full-force...and this time, Kaleb may not be enough to keep her safe.
Hot damn, Hot as Hale is a panty-melter. With oodles of scorching scenes, and some very, very (not so) nice dirty talk, this isn't a book you want to read without a man or a fan on hand to help you out. If know what I mean...
I really enjoyed this third book in the Hale series, even if I didn't always love Josie's overly shy nature. It seemed a little too naive at times, but when counterbalanced with the way she let go and played with Kaleb, it worked just fine.
This group of friends have seen their share of ups-and-downs throughout the course of this series (one that can be read as standalone but would be better if read in order) and the down in this one might be the biggest of all...which just means the rewarding up, the sweet, if a little rushed, ending, is all the more enjoyable.
Hot as Hale is wild ride, no doubt, but absolutely one I enjoyed...if only for my favorite not-quite-a-Hale detective--the very sexy, very protective, very delicious Kaleb Perez. Jesus, even his name is hot. ~ Beth, 4.5 stars
Loved this story about Kaleb and Josie. Kaleb is warm and loving. Josie is shy and awkward at first but when these two finally ‘connect’, the dynamics change. This book will leave you with a warm and fuzzy.
Before I read Hot As Hale, I went back and reread the first two books just to make sure that I was still going to have those same feelings I had when I originally read them. I still loved the first two books as much as I did, so I was even more excited for Hot As Hale.
I have wanted Josie and Kaleb’s story since the first glimpse of attraction between the two was shown to us readers. I had a feeling that Kaleb was going to be super sexy and that feeling was spot on. Let me expand on that. Kaleb could arrest, frisk, or search me any day of the week. Hell I would commit a crime if I knew he was going to be my arresting officer. Not only is he hot, but he is also caring, protective and overall I really good guy who has his sites on the pretty little school teacher.
Josie, as stated above is the “innocent” school teacher who while is attracted to Kaleb will never even speak to him when he is in the same room as him. Stating she is shy is an understatement. So you would think I would love the way she would be a good fit for Kaleb, but honestly she drove me completely insane. She would be this prim proper girl one minute then act like she would die if she didn’t have sex with Kaleb again, I understand she wasn’t very experienced and the right man can make even the primmest of women into freaks in the sheets but Josie just rubbed me the wrong way from the start. I just didn’t like her character.
Hot As Hale sadly was a letdown for me, while I enjoyed it, I didn’t love it like I have the previous two books. There were just too many different things for me to be able to pin point what exactly it was that made me like it less than the others. I am curious to read the next book that will be the final book in the series and will have POV’s from all six characters.
“My heart races uncontrollably when I even think about him. When I see him, I can’t even speak. The one time I did dial his number to place the first call to him made my hands shake so much I couldn’t even manage to hit the green circle on my phone.”
“I may need to pour this drink directly down the front of my pants. It will take too long for my body to cool from ingesting it.”
My Review:
Hot as Hale is a sweet and sexy story with a bit of suspense thrown in to the mix. Josie is painfully shy and inexperienced but feels an intense attraction to Detective Perez, and the feelings are mutual. He is the best kind of BBF as he is thoughtful, sweet, supportive, and insightful, and he cooks in every room. He provides Josie with the support and confidence to open up and grow up a bit more. Their relationship progresses quickly and sweetly, and I adored them. The story and writing flowed smoothly and was easy to follow and consistently enjoyable and entertaining. Oh, and it’s also smokin’ hawt as they couldn’t keep their hands off of each other. Win – win!
Tears are flowing....this book was all at once, funny, irreverent, steamy and so emotional. The third book in the Hale Series my Marie James is the whole package. Shy, introverted Josie doesn't know now to deal with Detective Kaleb Perez' continued attempts to get her to call him. He continuously gives her his card with his cell number on the back. She's an old fashioned girl and figures if he really does want to see her he'll get in touch with her, despite the urging of Lorali and Alexis. He's a detective and should be able to figure it out. Circumstances throw them together in what becomes a suspenseful story that keeps us on our toes. Will they realize how they feel about each other or will a monkey wrench get thrown in to make sure they are apart forever?
Once again James delivers a hot as Hale alpha male to drive you mad with lust. This book has more scorching love scenes that'll melt your kindle, which is becoming a fast favorite when reading James' Hale Series. With each new introduction of characters, James brings the heat, seduction and sizzle to each book in this series. In Hot as Hale, James gives us Kaleb, yet another panty melter. He has his eyes set on shy, naive Josie. But as always, danger and turmoil get in the way. This book was definitely a crazy rollercoaster ride of events. From dirty talking love scenes to complicated dangers, I loved ever minute of what James put together in this novel.
Josie is Lorali's little sister. She is consumed by her first year as a science teacher. She has watched Lorali and Alexa fall for two wonderful men. This has also left her by herself in their apartment. Having a few run ins with Kaleb, a detective who worked on Alexa's shooting. Josie is attracted to him but not having much dating experience, she will not take the first step to call him even though every time he saw her he gave her a business card with his personal cell phone number on it. After some pushing, Kaleb finally took the initiative to call Josie himself.
We get a little bit of everything with Kaleb and Josie's story. I've been waiting for these two since book one. She was too shy to call him even after he had given her his number on several (not so great) occasions. There is a great continuing story line in these three books but this one throws a little more suspense in the mix. I really liked the couple and feel they were a perfect fit for each other.
Wow.....just loved Kaleb and Josie. This is the third book in the series and should be read in order if not you wont have a clue lol. I just adored these two they were just to cute together loved the fact that after Josie got over her shyness and Talked to Kaleb there was no games or lies just complete honesty about what they wanted. This is my favorite so far although they are all super reads and very well written with super story lines you wont be able to put them down
Loved this story! So glad they finally got together and were able to start a relationship. Broke my heart with the situation she found herself in but so glad it all worked out for them in the end. Can’t wait for what is next!
A fabulous third instalment of the Hale series. Hot and steamy as the previous two books but with a different intimate focus. Definitely could not put this down, had to follow this romance through its ups and downs to its surprising conclusion. Great read all told.
I have loved this series, and this story was terrific as well. It was an emotional roller-coaster of a story, with tragic situations, but most of all, lots of love. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and fantastic author.
★✩★✩★ 5 – Hot for Teacher – Stars ~this review may contain minor spoilers~
“I bet he thinks I'm a mute.” “Well, even if he doesn't, I'm almost certain he thinks you're the cutest damn mute he's ever seen!” “Shut up” “I'm serious, Josie. When I met with him at his office he was all business. Every time I've seen him he's always looking around, taking in his environment. When you're around, you're all he sees. Like everything else just falls away.”
Josie Bennett is as quiet, reserved and shy as they come. The most exciting thing going on in her life is researching fun science projects for her 4th grade class and living through stories from her sister Lorali and best friend Alexa as they try to force her to live and take a chance on someone. Until she meets him.....
Narcotics Detective Kaleb Perez just goes through the motions in life. Sure, he loves his job but aside from the occasional hook-up, he has nothing else. It never really bothered him before, he didn't really know what he was missing, until he met her.....
Ever since they crossed paths, Kaleb has been unable to get Josie out of his head. His attempts to get her to call him are continually thwarted until a break-in at her apartment forces him into her life, and he refuses to ever walk away. Spending time with Kaleb slowly brings Josie out of her shell and what she finds underneath is a sex starved vixen she never knew existed. He shows her everything she has been missing and all she never knew she could have, but can her protect her from the threat hiding around the corner? Will she be able to let him go when the danger has passed, and will he let her?
“What exactly was the hold up?” “I was busy getting my ass spanked by a hot Puerto Rican sex god!” “Fuck yeah!” “How are wedding plans coming, Lor?” “Uh un. You're not getting away from that conversation that easily!” “What else is there to say? You want details?” “Damn straight!” “It's absolutely amazing. And I'm discovering that I like all sorts of things. He makes me feel safe and free to explore myself.” “You're falling for him.”
I'm just gonna go ahead and say it – this book was perfectly titled. Hott as hell, sexy as sin, with moments of cute shyness, vulnerability, laugh out loud banter and a pulse pounding twist when you least expect it. Even though this was ripe with insta-love, which generally drives me bat-shit crazy, I still loved every damn minute of it. This is book three of the series and I have NOT read the first two books: yes, the characters are all intertwined – yes, there were some nasty turns in the first two that I clearly missed out on – but no, I did not suffer any real confusion. The author did a brilliant job of letting me know all the important stuff without straying too far off this books course. With that being said, I'm still gonna go ahead and download the first two just because I want more time with this crew. Watching Josie crawl out of her ultra shy, quiet and reserved shell was amazing – watching Lorali and Alexa's reaction to it was hilarious, but Kaleb's was just deliciously sinful. He was leery of pushing her too far too fast, but she really just blossomed under his touch. For the first time in her life she is learning how to let her freak flag fly and is discovering so much more about herself in the process. He really was, IS, perfect for her – hot and passionate, sexy and seductive, protective, take charge yet sweet and romantic with all the manners his Momma taught him – outside of the bedroom anyway. The pace, plot and characters grabbed my attention right from the beginning and refused to let go. It was a pretty wicked journey – one I have no problem recommending and one that has me dying to see not only was I missed so far, but what's next for this fab group of people. Marie James has certainly piqued my interest and I cannot wait for what else she may have in store.
Josie was curled into my side. I never thought something so simple would make me feel so content. It's as if I'd been waiting for her. My life felt complete in this moment and I was content with just sitting here, holding my girl; that was until I felt her hand glide up my thigh and then I was hit with more longing and need than I'd ever felt in my life.
Josey and Kaleb's story was fabulously awesome with the two of them steaming up the pages or the danger that comes their way had me glued until the end.
Josie and Kaleb are terribly sweet. The cop and the teacher could be totally cliche, but here, it isn't. The ending came with a development I didn't see coming, and opened up another series' worth of characters. A couple of minor plot points didn't get resolution, and that would have made this story even stronger.
Underneath all that innocence, does an exotic minx exist?
Innocent Joselyne Bennett loves her quiet life. As an elementary teacher her days include teaching kids then going home to research fun science projects to add to her lesson plan. Her only excitement is living vicariously through her sister Lorali and friend Alexa Warner. Incredibly gorgeous police detective Kaleb Perez was going through the motions of life. His position on the force as a narcotics detective forced him to cross paths with Josie after a shooting involving her friend.
On more than one occasion Kaleb discretely tried to catch Josie’s eye. Formerly timid Josie is coaxed out of her shell by the sexy-as-sin Kaleb who nurtures her inner sex-kitten in the most seductive ways, and replaces her inexperience with passionate need. (Amazon Blurb)
Simply put: wow. They barely speak to each other (in the beginning) and yet Josie and Kaleb still manage to make my arms bust out in goosebumps! Who would have thought?! The last instalment of a trilogy following the Hale family, this novel talks about Josie, sister to Lorali who is engaged to Ian Hale, and Kaleb Perez, friend of Ian Hale. After months of leaving business cards and waiting for Josie to call him for a date, Kaleb hopes, after much encouragement from friends, that after court for the attempted murder of Alexa (see the second book of the series) to put into place 'Operation Get A Date' and hope for the best. Captivating, adorable (Josie seems innocent and quiet) and hilarious to boot, Marie James keeps entertaining her readers with her unique way of creating stories that are simply vibrant and well worth the time it takes to finish.

You know what they say - it's always the quiet ones that turn out to be wildcats. And without a doubt this applies to Josie Bennett in this book. As par for the course with this series, this book is scorching hot mixed with suspense and the clashing of two souls who can't be denied. While technically, this can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading the first two books in the series to get the whole picture of these two and the other characters in this book.
Since their first meeting under the worst of circumstances, an attraction started brewing between Josie Bennett and Kaleb Perez. Josie has always been the most reserved of her close knit group, so it is no wonder that she has done nothing every time Kaleb made a subtle pass at her. She knows she is interested, but she is to shy to do anything incase she is reading the signs wrong.
Kaleb is at his wits end and doesn't know what to do. Every time he and Josie have crossed paths he has indicated that he is interested and she should get in contact if the feelings are mutual. But to date he has heard not a peep from her. He knows he wants her and finally decides that he is going to go after what he wants, Josie Bennett.
When Kaleb finally makes a move, will Josie decide to take a chance and possibly, finally, connect with her soul mate? Can these two find their HEA like the others in their group, or will the forces at play keep them apart?
Avid fans and new fans of this series and Marie James, will not be disappointed in the steam and smut in this book. The sexual tension between these two has been building up over 2 books now. So you better believe that it was explosive when they finally came together. The heat level was set to scorching for most of this book and there were times where you definitely needed a moment to cool down.
I really loved Kaleb Perez in this novel. I actually think he is my favorite alpha of this series. He was the perfect blend of gentleman and beast. He knew what he wanted with and from Josie but at all times he showed consideration and respect for her. His protective side did not feel forced and all his actions genuine. Yet when he wanted to get down and dirty he was there with the absolute best of them.
For me, I had a little bit of an issue with how Josie was portrayed in parts of this book. I absolutely get that she came out of her shell and got confidence through being with Kaleb, but there were a few times where I felt the actions she took were a bit extreme left field of her personality so far throughout the series. But other than those very few moments, I did love the confidence that she grew into. She was able to blossom through the relationship with Kaleb.
I really enjoyed the build up of the suspense in this novel. I was glued to the book to find out what would happen and how it would work out. I do have to say that when I got to the actual part it felt a bit rushed and I personally wished that I could have had a bit more from Kaleb's perspective. But that is just my personal take on it.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read. The storyline kept me intrigued and the sexy times were plentiful but did not overtake the storyline. Marie did a great job capturing the emotions throughout the book that draws a reader in.
I recommend this book to all lovers of steamy romance who enjoy a bit of suspense. I can't wait to see what Marie writes next. If I had to sum up in one word, this book was explosive.
I absolutely loved Perez and Josie's book!! I completely forgot about Kincaid and his crew showing up to help out. There is so much I want to say but I don't want to give any spoilers!! Can't wait to read more of their story.
The title of this is not wrong! We met the sweet innocent Josie, and the sexy detective, Kaleb in the first two books in this series. I have been hoping for these two since the first time Kaleb gave his card to Josie. Marie James delivered everything I was hoping for and then some. James gave us a story packed full of panty melting love scenes with a super hot dirty talking Alpha, and danger and intrigue. I could not get enough!!!

“I bet he thinks I'm a mute.” “Well, even if he doesn't, I'm almost certain he thinks you're the cutest damn mute he's ever seen!” “Shut up” “I'm serious, Josie. Marie James brings the smut once again. This time it's Josie's turn and boy is she different than we would have thought from the two previous books. She's portrayed up until now as a goody two-shoes...perfect little teacher..well guess what, the teacher is kinky!!! Woo hoo.
This story picks up where Begging for Hale left off.
This is book 3 in a series and should be read as such since they all go together. And most definitely book 2 needs to be read before book 3 as it's a direct continuation.
This one was all about the sexy. It starts off with Josie still refusing to call Kaleb, even though he still gives her business cards with his personal cell number on them. But things are shaken up rather quickly and you're like OH YEAH...lots of conflict, drama....but that part kind of falls by the wayside once Josie and Kaleb get their relationship groove on. So as much as I love a sexy book, I was really looking forward to a little more oomph in the storyline. I loved all the sexy, don't get me wrong..and it's most definitely not too much...but I can see a lot of debate over this one and how Josie acts. But you know...it's those quiet ones you gotta watch out for!
While this wasn't loaded with angst, wasn't overly emotional, it was still an enjoyable read. I just wish for myself and what I like to read, that it would have delved a little deeper into the storyline...it was on the back burner to their sex, then all of a sudden it was the only focus, then it was resolved and we were back to the sex.
After reading the previous two Hale books, I was concerned that Kaleb wouldn't be as hot as Ian and Garrett........because those two men were smokin'!! I needn't have worried though, because Detective Perez is one HOT, dirty talking Alpha!
I loved the chemistry between Josie and Kaleb and how he showed his caring and patient side with her. I'm glad he was persistent when she didn't contact him despite the numerous business cards he kept handing her.
Having previously read the Cerberus MC series I had an idea where this story would go......and it was very gripping when it came to the suspense in the latter part of the story. I would have liked this part of the plot to be explored in more detail with a few less sex scenes, but this is only my personal preference.
If you like hot and steamy reads, this book has it by the bucketload.........lots of passion, lust and scorching sex, which Marie James writes so well!
Wow. That’s the first word that came to mind when I started this series and it’s still the word I think of after reading this most recent installment. The chemistry between the characters is off the charts (even if they sometimes don’t want to admit it) and the story kept me glued to my tablet. I started with book 1 about a week before I had to do this post to make sure I had ample time to get to this book. It actually wasn’t needed. I plowed through them in a matter of days and now I’m itching for more. Kaleb and Josie barely know each other when the story starts (not for lack of trying on Kaleb’s part). When threats come at Josie because of her best friend’s impending testimony against a drug dealer, Kaleb insists she stay with him. Things heat up fast and there’s a whole lot of steamy sex going on. I can’t say enough great things about these two. They’re both awesome characters and I loved how Josie comes out of her shell as the story progresses. While this book revolves around Kaleb and Josie it as elements that tie into the ongoing story from the other books. There’s some suspense wrapped up in this steamy book which only enhances the story. Combine that with fantastic characters and some seriously hot sex scenes and it’s no wonder I devoured the whole series (to date) in just a few days. If you like a hot alpha man and some steamy action between the sheets, you should definitely read this book. 5 out of 5 stars!!!
Sweet, scorching and loving… the feels are all here!
This is the third in the Hale series and, while I’ve loved them all, this is my favourite. Josie and Kaleb’s story has been percolating for a while with tantalizing glances and shy smiles between the two offering a taste of what was to come.
“He’s a great detective and I’m sure if he’s given a long enough opportunity he’ll be able to somehow detect the condition of my panties.”
Josie is painfully shy but with a bit of a push from her loving friends she opens up to Kaleb into a world she is excited to explore. Only with him though – his sexy.. everything, has her totally captivated. When danger comes knocking on her door he is the one she turns to and he is more than happy to provide a safe haven for her.
I loved everything about this book. Josie and Kaleb were this wonderful mix of tentative and scorching as their feelings intertwined to make their sheet sessions even hotter (if that’s possible!). Josie is shy but there is nothing hesitant once she embraces her feelings for Kaleb. And the hottie detective is more than just a pretty face, hunky body, sexy eyes… ahem.
When danger turns deadly, everyone jumps into the fray as one of their own is at risk. An explosive ending to a riveting read. I don’t know if there will be more in this series but I sure hope so. Awesome!
Kaleb Perez is a detective with the police force. Josie Bennett is an elementary school teacher. Josie lives with her sister Lorelei and her friend Alexa. Alexa just recently got out of the hospital she was shot. She is a witness in an upcoming trial for a drug dealer. The drug lord is determined to keep her from testifying in his trial. Lorelei is not home often because she is always with her fiance, Ian as they plan for their upcoming wedding. Alexa has started seeing Garret and they are getting very close so most of the time Josie is home alone. She comes home one night and someone has left a warning written in blood on her doorstep. Kaleb has just recently met Josie but he really likes her and she is shy. He runs to her aid when she is threatened. The next night when she comes home her apartment is broken into and everything in it is trashed. Josie is hysterical. Kaleb tries to calm her and tells her she is coming home with him. He wants to protect her. This story is good but I did think there was way too much sex between Kaleb and Josie. It seemed like every chapter had them in bed or in heat. I just got tired of hearing it. I liked the story and the connection between these two as they get to know each other, but the profanity and the sex was a little overdone. Otherwise this was a good story
~I was given this for an honest review~ Reviewed by Amy I'll start by saying I haven't read the first two books in the series but you really don't need to. This is a standalone but still has the characters from the first two books. This book has everything I love in a book...Good looking persistent cop who protects his lady no matter what and the shy, timid female who hides her feelings. Kaleb, I will say is so persistent with his pursuit of Josie. He has handed her so many cards but she just keeps trashing them. Their friends finally become sneaky to get them together..It finally works! Josie is still pretty quiet but Kaleb brings something out in her and she gets the confidence to do anything. While all this is going on, Josie has someone sending her notes and trashing her apartment. Kaleb takes it on himself and has her staying with him, That honestly brings them so much closer.. The two of them are incredible, with Josie being so shy she needs a man who is strong and supports her. She definitely gets that with Kaleb. They probably move fast for most people standards but they have been fighting these feelings for awhile and are acting in love. This book has everything I love in books...romance, sassy friends, overprotective but loving boyfriend and a some drama/action. This is a great way to end the series!
I'll start by saying I haven't read the first two books in the series but you really don't need to. A cute relationship read that came across as honest and plausible since Josie was so shy and reserved in the other two books. This book picks up from Alexa's story and how she was shot. Josie and Kaleb start a relationship through a mix of funny and scary interludes that makes them easily the most precious couple of the series. Near the end of book 2, MJ kept this a romantic series, but added an intriguing thriller/suspense component that I enjoyed. Josie and Kaleb's story takes that element further and it was well done! I enjoyed the detail and emotions put into the events that Josie endured. I liked seeing how the group was doing and read Josie's story, but I must say that she is my least favorite female character out of this group. I thought she was sweet and it was a good story, but I loved the sassy or feisty approach to life that the other two female main characters embodied. I thankfully cannot imagine experiencing her story, but I did not like how "damsel in distress" she was at times. With that though, I adored Kaleb. How protective, smart, and confident he was ...yes, yes, yes! The ending to this book was perfect and left me wondering a few things that I hoped to see answered in the fourth book...which yup I promptly started reading it!
