Imagine that you were married to the love of your life and had a happy family. Now imagine everything was destroyed in an instant, making you question who you are and how you can possibly go on once the one person you truly love is gone.
It is a rare thing to find your soul mate, but Jess found true love in Dave when they were only teenagers. They've built a happy life together in a small shore town, becoming pillars of the community and making everyone around them envious of the seemingly perfect life they have built together. Jess has always been the life of the party, and Dave was always there to reel her in and keep her safe. But one night, while on duty as the town Sheriff, the unimaginable happens, altering the directions of their lives forever.
This is a story about finding love, having it all taken away, and discovering that moving on doesn't mean forgetting the past.
**DUST TO DUST is the first book of the series and introduces you to the close relationships these five friends have with each other. This is the second book of the series, but can be read as a stand alone.
S.P Cervantes lives in Orange County, California with her husband and three children, where she is a teacher. She enjoys spending time with her family, writing, reading, and running, but is always thinking of an idea for her next novel. The dystopian romance An Impossible World will be released on July 25, 2017. S.P. Cervantes is the author of the highly rated New Adult Romantic Fantasy series Secrets of Shadow Hill. “Always and Forever”, “The Prophecy” and “War of Wizards” are available now. S.P. Cervantes also has a contemporary romance series, A Broken Fairy Tale. “Dust to Dust" is the first book in the series, with "Wished Away" and "His Jar of Hearts" are the second and third books in this stand alone series.
The book starts with the heroine's first love and how happy she is. But then, her love of life, her husband and father of her child dies and she is devastated.
In the book, we have different point of views and one of them is the dead husband. He can't go wherever the dead ones go because he sees his wife suffering so he needs to wait and see that his wife and child are OK. I don't know how I can deal with the new romance, knowing the dead husband is watching them from up above. Sounds too weird to me...
By the way, the hero also lost his wife and he is grieving. They get closer slowly.
I don't have the book and I haven't read it. This is just the information I have gathered from the reviews I have read. I am putting it here to help you to decide. So, if you read the book and if I am mistaken, please correct.
I will forever remember how perfect his lips feel against mine with our last kiss, and keep that memory locked away for the rest of my life.”
“I feel like I’m walking through life skinned alive and my memories are like a gust of wind scraping across my exposed, raw skin.”
“You’re the pulse that keeps my heart beating. Everything I do is for you.”
My Review:
An emotional and intriguing tale. We start off with a couple in love, epic love, having been friends since the age of six. But we aren’t allowed to be happy with them for long… half of this novel was simply heartbreaking, as our leading man dies all too soon. I found this novel to be not only moving, but also interesting and unique - in content as well as the structure of how the story unfolds - as it was told from several aspects and in an uncommon way.
We hear from 2 different narrators - one male and one female - and the story slips back and forth in time as they recount their memories - good and bad - from childhood to his death. Tricky and unique part aspect is that we continue on with our male narrator while he dies, and after… as he continues to remain while he feels the need to watch over his grieving wife and child. And her anguish is palpable. My only complaint with this book was that her sorrow turned into wallowing, and her inner dialog was too repetitive. We are presented with the interesting musings, as well as the mental and emotional struggle our hero’s entity faces, in deciding he cannot leave his wife while she remains broken. He is in conflict about moving on to the next phase, although he is unsure what that next phase would be. He decides he cannot leave while his young widow and small child grieve, although he also senses this to be incorrect and feels a pull to a better place. I found this such an interesting concept, as well as the notion that the spirit or entity could not retain his focus and was frequently surprised in the large gaps of time that had elapsed while he retreats to his memories. This fascinated me. I found this story quite moving, and was brought to tears several times. Not only by their past and her grief, but in her reawakening. Our heroine is conflicted yet drawn into a new love with a beautiful, kind, and understanding man, who is similarly grief stricken after losing his wife. Thankfully, there is much humor and levity provided by interactions with her life-long friends, as well as the excitement and discovery of new love. Although steamy sex is implied and mentioned, the love scenes were more sweet and tender than steamy.
Jess and Dave found each other and fell in love when they were young. He was there when she suffered a devastating loss and reminded her that she wasn't alone. They fell in love, married, had a child, and lived happily ever after. Well almost. They had been married for several years when Dave is killed in the line of duty as a police officer. Jess' whole world is wrapped up in him and their family together, so when she loses him she isn't sure who she is anymore.
Then Gage. Gage is a part of her circle of friends and he lost his wife a few years ago. He is there for her when she has to say goodbye to Dave helping her through it. A few years later they begin to spend time together. She is attracted to him. but still feels guilty for it. Gage doesn't give up during those times she pushes away because he is head over heels for her. She is the same for him, but continues to fight it. He enables her to let go and live and love again.
I loved this book so much. I cried, laughed, and swooned right along with Jess. This was a beautiful love story.
I give Wished Away 5 hearts!

Hooked on this series of books. I love that we continue in the lives of lifelong friends and see what they are up too. I love the friendships. romance, drama and surprises. I have very limited time to read for enjoyment, so I found myself sneaking 5-10 minutes here and there just to see what was happening. LOVE!
This is the second installment in S.P. Cervantes’s A Broken Fairy Tale series. Here https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... you can find our blog’s review for Dust to Dust, the first volume.
In Wished Away we get to find out more about Jessica and Dave. I am sorry to say that I couldn’t really connect with these characters. Don’t get me wrong. All of them are great but I guess I fell in love with Cam and Holden and now I keep comparing everyone else with them and they come short.
This story is a little bit different from the first one. Here, the lesson is “life goes on even if your heart is shattered”.
What Jess and Dave had was perfect. The perfect love, the perfect marriage, the perfect family. They never thought that something might happen that will make everything disappear.
So, when Dave is killed while trying to save a little girl, Jessica is left adrift. She doesn’t know how to function without him and their daughter is the only thing that keeps her going.
Gage has lost his beloved wife in a car accident and he’s still mourning her. The fact that he works in a hospital and has to deal with death every day doesn’t help.
One evening, he has to operate on his friend, Dave, and see Jessica fall apart when he doesn’t make it.
Then, Gage and Jessica meet again, and he has a goal.
When I started reading, for a little while I feared this will be one of those novels where the author skips through long periods of time without giving us any details on how the characters got where they are right now. This I find extremely annoying and it’s one of the few things that makes me give up on a book.
It sort of happens here also but the effect is not bad. This because, all through the book, we get to see glimpses of the past, so you won’t have any trouble understanding.
I really, really liked how she blended those glimpses from the past into the present. The transition is so smooth and makes following the story line extremely easy.
The writing style is not bad. Better than Dust to Dust.
While you can read Wished Away as a standalone, I recommend starting from the beginning otherwise you’ll have a hard time understanding who’s who and what’s what. There are quite a few characters and the author brings up a few situations from the previous novel that, if you haven’t read it, you’ll have no idea what she’s talking about. And it’s really worth it.
These are stories about friendship, love, loss, pain, hope. The bonds between the characters are really special and they show that true friendship is a precious gift and those who have it are really blessed because, sometimes, no one understands your pain and knows how to help you through it better than your best friend. I really don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you decide to give this series a try.
I truly have been enjoying the Broken Fairy Tale series by S.P. Cervantes. This book for me took it up a notch and the author delivered a magically beautiful and emotional story, this book even better than the first and I look forward to what S.P. has for us next.
Wished Away follows the story of Jess and Dave who we met in Dust to Dust. These two characters have the perfect marriage and relationship having known each other since children, always being each other's constant support and having a love so real and deep that the reader can feel it too.
If you read Dust to Dust you know what happens to Dave and having to relive it through Dave's eyes and mind was so painful to watch unfold that all I could wonder was how Jess would survive it and how she would be able to continue living knowing that the person who kept her grounded and from getting lost was forever gone.
I do want to say that I enjoyed how Dave remained a character throughout the remainder of the book, as if watching Jess and his daughter from heaven. I am a somewhat spiritual person and have always wondered what happens when a person dies and if we can watch our loved ones because this is exactly how I would want heaven to be for me - watching our legacy live on.
Dr. Gage Scott is someone that Jess and Dave knew previously in their life together and I adored watching them reconnect on a new level. Gage also has suffered something similar in his life, he is kindhearted, determined, attractive and not what you would normally expect from a doctor but I liked that he was so different from Dave and someone that Jess could eventually learn to love if she allowed her heart to move forward.
I will admit that I was a little emotional about her and Gage because they were so sweet together, tentatively and slowly trying to get back into the dating world. Gage proved time and time again what a great man he is - patient and thoughtful, good to her daughter. Most of all, Gage wanted to help bring her back to life.
So will he succeed? Can Jess move on from the only man that she has ever loved and find a way to happily ever after?
You will have to read this book to find out.
In a word - perfection. Make sure to have tissues because you will need it.
So, I want to give this book a billion stars plus infinity. It’s that wonderful. I absolutely love this series. It’s about a close knit group of friends who’ve grown up together, found love together, and experienced life together. This series is about family, fun, love, and hope. It’s also sexy as hell and very emotional.
When you read this book you will feel. You will feel joy, pain, hurt, happiness, sadness, but mostly you will feel hope and love. This is the story that will grab you by the heart and hold on til the end. Even after you finish this book, you will think about it. We get to catch up with Cam and Holden, Joey, and Jess and Dave. We get to see how their lives have changed since Dust to Dust finished. There is tragedy but there’s hope, there’s second chances at living. There’s grief, pain, and hurt but someone comes along and wishes away that pain and eventually that wish becomes real and the pain seems to dissipate some. When something so dark and ugly happens to you, you have to look for the rainbows and butterflies to make living a little easier. Do you believe there’s more than that one soul mate out there? Can you imagine finding the greatest love of your life for a second time?
I actually messaged SP Cervantes while reading this and told her how much I loved it; how much I was feeling it. There are only a few other books out there that have touched me this way so it’s on a very short list. I am so honored that I was given the chance to read Wished Away and review it for you.
Granted, I didn’t say a whole lot about the story because this one that you need to read for yourself and fall in love with. I promise you will.
I was given this book by Wordsmith Publicity in exchange for honest review.

Wished Away follows the story of Jess and Dave. They've known one another since they were little kids. Dave has always been there for Jess and their love was a love that not many got the chance to experience. They were truly happy and had everything going for them: The perfect, happy family and a satisfying marriage. But, one night will change everything. Dave is killed in the line of duty and Jess' whole world falls apart. Jess is lost and doesn't know how to go on. Until Gage. Gage shows Jess how to live and breath again.........
Wished Away is a beautiful and at times heartbreaking story of true love, loss, finding yourself again, learning to move on and taking that second chance at love. Wished away was very well written and the characters were very easy to connect with.
This story is told from Jess and Dave's POV. At first I wasn't too sure how Dave's pov was going to work out, but I was quickly won over. I loved the idea of experiencing Dave's feelings about how his family was dealing with everything and how it all came full circle when Dave was ready to pass on.
And Gage....there are no words. He was exactly what Jess needed in her life. He understood better than anyone how it felt to have your whole world taken away. His relationship with Jess was beautiful. He brought her out of the darkness and didn't give up. And his love for Jess' daughter was just amazing....
I have not read the first book in the series, but did not feel lost at all. However, I definitely will be going back and reading the first one. Wished Away was an emotional yet heartwarming book and is definitely worth the read. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
*****I received an ARC copy of this book via Wordsmith Publicity in exchange for my honest review*****
Have you ever read a book that completely takes you by surprise, one you thought sounded good, but it was by an author you haven't read before so you didn't know what to expect; but then you finish the story and find yourself completely blown away by just how much you loved everything about it? Well, that is exactly how I feel about S.P. Cervantes' newest release, Wished Away. To be honest I'm a little intimidated to even write this review because I don't know what words to use to encourage readers to just go ahead and one-click this amazing book!
When I read the synopsis I figured there would be a few tears shed on my part because let's face it, reading about death isn't typically easy. What I didn't realize was the wide range of emotions this story would evoke; happiness, grief, love, excitement, frustration, definitely sadness, but most of all hope. I also never expected to find a perfect balance of laughter to my tears. Yes, I was one of those sappy girls whose eyes were like a constant waterfall throughout the entire book. But they were all brought on by such a beautiful story told in the most clever and unique way imaginable.
Typically when I review a book I like to talk about the actual story, but this time I'm going to forgo those details, because this is one of those times you need to experience absolutely everything, you need to go into the story knowing nothing other than this will be one of the best books you read all year. Wished Away completely grabbed my full attention from page 1. S.P. Cervantes managed to fill each chapter of this book with so much emotion that you will find it impossible to not connect to the characters. I absolutely fell in love with Jess, Dave, Gage and the entire gang of friends. The connections between each of them strengthened the bonds of love they all shared and provided the perfect opportunity to connect, to feel as if you truly understood the inside jokes, it's almost as if you become a part of the inner circle and I found myself experiencing Jess's fears of moving on when life suddenly took her on a very unexpected journey.
S.P. Cervantes managed to take heavy subject matter and breathed new life and light into it, in such a way that didn't discount the original sadness of the material. Without a doubt this love story goes above and beyond the norm found in most new adult books today. My time spent with these characters will not be soon forgotten. S.P. Cervantes outdid herself with this book, she completely blew me away. I can also go ahead and declare, Wished Away will be one of my top read books of the year.
Wished Away is much more than a love story . The story starts off with Jess and Dave. They are childhood sweethearts, who grew up to get their fairytale, even if it is only for a short while. Jess and Dave are married and so in love. They are the couple everyone sees and wishes they were. They have great jobs they love, a child and each other. What more could they want out of life? They are the fairytale!
In a blink of an eye, their fairytale is lost when Dave is killed on duty as a police officer. Jess's whole world in torn apart in just a few short minutes. I cried like a a baby. The love that Jess and Dave had was so profound, it was unimaginable the heartbreak that Jess was going through and would have to endure for time time to come. The way S.P. writes this story, it will leave you gutted. Dave is such a strong character. Even when he is gone, his presence is still felt.
When Gage enters Jess's life, it becomes a whole new world. She feels so torn with the feelings she has with Gage. She has known him a while, since he has been part of the friend circle since college. Gage also has a lot in common with Jess. He has lost his life a few years back. He knows what she is going through. Gage could be a good thing for Jess. If she lets him. Jess has already had her one great love, can Gage even measure up? Will she let him? This book was unemotional roller coaster of happy and sad. Love and pain. Hope and Loss. Jess proves that there maybe true love again. Jess gave us hope that there may not just be a once in a lifetime love. There could be two great loves, if you open your heart to it!
When people that are beyond special to you leave this earth you sometimes feel as if you can’t live anymore. What is the point of moving on and living your life when they are no longer here. In this book you are going to feel really emotional. I choked up during a lot of different scenes in this story. The author did a great job of making you feel exactly how the character was feeling. You felt it in your soul that you just wanted to reach out and comfort a fictional character. Even though you know they aren’t real and it’s just a story you still felt as if they were your friends and wanted to help them through their pain. You will shed sad and happy tears during this read and wish you had a group of friends that Jess was blessed to have. I loved the flow of this book, it gave us different POVs and also gave us the history being told from the characters when going down memory lane. It helped the reader understand the connection that was there and give us a look into how they ended up where they were at in the present time. This can get tricky and confuse some readers but with this story you knew exactly what was going on and never felt lost. I give this book 4.5 stars!
You know those books that gut you to the core and everything inside you breaks for the characters then to add insult to injury, the location which is used in said book is close to your heart...yup...that's this book and to be honest, it is the entire A Broken Fairy Tale series.
I could go into detail about why you should read this book, but honestly I wouldn't do the book or the author a bit of justice. So as a reader of entirely too many book and a chic who grew up around the Jersey Shore, do yourself a favor and read this book!
I LOVED this book!!! This is the second book in the series but could easily be read as a standalone!! This story follows the life of a close group of friends and their lives. I absolutely loved the storyline, the friendships, the romance and everything else in between. I was unable to put this book down! I read it in one sitting without taking a break! If I am able to do that with a book, it is a definite must read! If you purchase this book, you will not regret it! Well done S.P, you wrote a phenomenal novel!!
Sweet, Romantic, Tearjerker, soooo not my usual read but I LOVED it. Tastefully done love scenes (not sex scenes). I 'm calling it love scenes because you can feel the love between the couple. Very good storyline, my first of this kind. Plus, I really like the dual POVs. A very good read.
Another perfect broken fairy tale. I give this 5/5 Butterflies & Rainbows <3 Sit down, buckle up and hold on tight. This rollercoaster ride will be sure to mess with your emotions! Enjoy the most perfect ride ever!
Where have I been?! How did I not know about S.P. Cervantes. Seriously. Seriously! Give me a second to be wow'd. This woman can write a love story. She makes you feel. She pulls out every emotion you can fathom. She'll make you cry heartbroken tears, but put that broken heart right back together again. I'm in love with this author.
Wished Away is the second in the A Broken Fairy Tale series, following Dust to Dust. It could be read as a standalone but I can't say it enough - Don't short yourself. Read Dust to Dust. Both of these books are leaps and bounds above so many others out there.
I loved Camryn and Holden in Dust to Dust. I was certain there was no way she could top that story. Of course any scene with Jess in it was always so fun and exciting, but I just couldn't imagine liking two characters from their world more than I did Cam and Holden. I was so wrong. So so wrong. Jess and Gage's story grabbed me and didn't let go until the very end. Throughout the pages, you'll feel and experience so many different emotions. It's not all butterflies and rainbows the entire length of the novel, but every page still felt so hopeful. Their connection, their love, their passion. It's just...I use this word so often, but it really felt like they were perfect for one another. They were made for each other, it just took some tragic events and learning experiences to get there. But when they do get there? Sigh. It's breathtaking. Absolutely beautiful.
I really enjoyed seeing how much they help one another. They're both lost, but find their way and future within one another. Seeing Jess return to that bright, glowing person she was couldn't have been written more perfectly. And Dr. McSteamy Gage? Whew. Cervantes is pro at book boyfriends. Pro! I didn't want to like him. I wanted Dave. By the end, you'll still feel as connected to Dave as Jess does but you know Gage is the one that should be there. He fits oh so well.
Speaking of Cervantes, let's talk about her writing. She always manages to find the most eloquent descriptions of the places and people these characters encounter. She truly makes you feel as if you're a part of this group of friends. I also loved seeing Jess through Dave's eyes. I'm usually not big on a lot of flashbacks, but not only were they necessary to this story but it just seemed "right" to have them there. Plus, her grand gestures at the end? Top notch. She'll give you all the warm and fuzzies you can handle.
It's been a while since I've read a book that can make me feel so deeply. I don't really cry happy tears. I love a good ugly cry but that's usually it for me. This one had devastated tears running down my cheeks, but also so many happy tears. These two strong but broken characters rediscovering themselves with each other was one of the most enjoyable tales I've read in a while. Wished Away was heartbreaking, hopeful, and heartwarming. It's gonna take something major to knock me from this book hangover. Love love loved this one.
Sooo... Do we get a book for Joey? Please say yes! <3
his is a story about finding love, having it all taken away, and discovering that moving on doesn’t mean forgetting the past. Goodness..What a Lovely story that pulls at your Heart Strings :) Wished Away is the 2nd book in the “A Broken Fairy Tale” Series. DUST TO DUST is the first book of the series and introduces you to the close relationships these five friends have with each other. This book can be read as a stand alone. I really enjoyed this second book and I believe I liked it more then the first. And I really..really liked the first one. lol This book is about Jessica: Imagine that you were married to the love of your life and had a happy family. Now imagine everything was destroyed in an instant, making you question who you are and how you can possibly go on once the one person you truly love is gone. And her close net friends going through life, heartbreak and being there for each other through thick and thin. This book soo made me cry too. I was not expecting it to, but things happen and the waterworks started..lol It will also make you to keep reading so you can find out what is going to happen next with Jessica and her friends and finding love after tragedy. Ohhh and you will really enjoy reading about Jessica’s friends..they are a crazy fun bunch!! :) It is a rare thing to find your soul mate, but Jess found true love in Dave when they were only teenagers. They’ve built a happy life together in a small shore town, becoming pillars of the community and making everyone around them envious of the seemingly perfect life they have built together. Jess has always been the life of the party, and Dave was always there to reel her in and keep her safe. But one night, while on duty as the town Sheriff, the unimaginable happens, altering the directions of their lives forever. I really like the writing style of this author..she keeps you wanting to turn those pages. I absolutely fell in love with her characters, they were a lot of fun!! I will have to admit, the beginning of the book was just a tad bit slow for me, in my opinion, but then not to far into it, I was hooked, I didn’t have anymore issues with it and I just loved it!! :) It soo made me feel gooey inside!! I gave this book 5 Smooches!! Trish :)
Holy cow! What an awesome read! Wished Away is the second book in the Broken Fairytale Series by S.P. Cervantes. I really enjoyed the first book, Dust to Dust, but this book blew me away!
In an instant, life changes for Jess and Dave (we met them in the first book.) O.M.G. Heartbreak. I cried through out this book. Just when I though Jess and Dave were free again, I was pulled back to the heartache. It was up and down, and I could do nothing but hold on for the emotional roller coaster. This book is about healing, not giving up on life, and pushing forward no matter how dark it seems. There is so much emotion going on, and I loved every second of it! This is exactly the kind of book I crave.
The characters are all awesome and I've grown very attached to them. I am so glad that this is a series about a tight knit group of friends. While these books concentrate on specific couples each time, I still get to learn more about the characters I've grown attached to. The character are older than what seems to be the norm lately; they are in their 30's and have lived, made mistakes, but are still trying to figure out life. I find this FABULOUS! I mean, aren't we all just constantly learning about life and how to navigate it? Life happens beyond the twenties, and it is refreshing to read these books with older, and a bit more mature, characters. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in the series, His Jar of Hearts. I absolutely love Joey. He is such a good guy and I can't wait to see him get the HEA he deserves. And, I get more of these characters that I'm not quite ready to give up yet.
Wished Away is the second book in the Broken Fairy Tale Series by S.P. Cervantes. Readers met Jess and Dave in Dust to Dust. These high school sweethearts are very much in love and are the parents to an adorable daughter. When tragedy strikes Jess and her friends they are left to figure out how to go on without Dave. Jess, now a widowed mother, is surviving, not living and she doesn’t know how to change her life. Gage knows loss as well. After losing his wife a year before Dave dies, his job is his life now and he didn’t plan on that changing. When Gage and Jess meet again, sparks fly but can these two widows find true love for the second time? Or will the past heartache of the loves they’ve lost keep them apart? I truly loved this book!!! I laughed and ugly cried and felt my heart lift. I loved Jess and Dave, but Jess and Gage were phenomenal! This story was told in alternating POV’s, but not Jess and Gage; Jess and Dave tell the story of their past love and of Jess’s healing heart. The reason this story was not five stars was because we didn’t get Gage’s POV and I REALLY wanted it. I wanted to know what was in his head through their courtship. Overall, I would definitely recommend this series and this book! I can’t wait to get more from this amazing group of friends!
I wish I could give this more stars. I don't know why but a book that can make me ugly cry through the whole thing makes me love it that much more. Dave and Jess have loved each other since they were kids. They both knew there was no one else for the other person. Dave was sheriff, something he always dreamed of doing. One night on the job the unthinkable happens and he dies on the job while saving a young child. This was the worst thing Jess could imagine happening.
This is her story. Everything she goes through to heal. I won't say more because I don't want to ruin the book. Just read and enjoy.
Absolutely love this book...FIVE STARS!!! Finding love is difficult enough in this crazy world and I couldn't put this book down when I realized the main character, Jess, had found it twice. The love story is complete and real and I went on an emotional roller coater ride with the characters from start to finish. As much as I love the story about Jess, I find the circle of friends so endearing that I long to be part of their group. Can't wait to read more in the series and looking forward to more from this author.
This book made me laugh, cry, and want to hug someone. Never take life for granted, because you never know when it can change in an instant. This book will teach you about true love, sacrifice, and how strong the human spirit can be.
Wished Away touched my heart and squeezed, never letting go. Maybe I bonded with this book because of the age range of the characters or maybe for the reason that we never know what will happen in life. Either way....I was hooked.
I've had this book for a while and now that I've read it, I wish I would have read it sooner - but glad I had an entire day to just be with it. The story draws you in and takes you on an unbelievable roller coaster ride - I started a 2nd box of tissues. This was told in a unique point of view that I was truly thankful for. You only wish to find your love of a lifetime, but the possibility of two. WOW!! This was an amazing read and is still with me the next day.
