Review
“Lisa has created a beautiful, complicated, and sensual world that is filled with intrigue and suspense. Sara’s character is strong, flawed, complex, and sexy - a modern girl we all can identify with. I’m thrilled to develop a television show that will tell Sara’s whole story - her life, her work, her friends, and her sexuality.”―Suzanne Todd, producer of Alice in Wonderland (and the INSIDE OUT series)

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 January 2021Myla’s life changed dramatically the day that saw her mother and her FBI father killed leaving only her and her sister Kara . While her sister followed their father in choice of occupation Myla followed her mother in choice of occupation as a fashion designer . With a chance to achieve her dream Myla packed up her things in Texas and moved to San Francisco to become a fashion designer sadly the job never materialised . Needing money to survive she’s had to take a job as a waitress but the restaurant is owned by a very unsavoury character indeed . Michael Alvarez is the character in question who happens to own the biggest cartel in the country . Myla’s life is about to change once more when Alvarez takes an interest in her . After what happened to her parents and realising that she’s in danger she calls her sister fair help , but sadly Kara can’t do much as there’s a nasty accident and Myla and Alvarez are killed ........ or are they ? ......Kyle is ex FBI but now works for the firm Walker security he’s been offered a job by an insider in the Alvarez cartel although the person thinks he’s a freelance body guard and is not working for any association . Kyle is eager to get the job as part of the cartels modus operandi is to sell women into the sex traffic and for this alone Kyle wants to close the cartel down . Also part of the Walker team now is Kara who’s married to Blake who’s ex AFT and one of the brothers that started the organisation ,a year on she’s still convinced that her sister and Alvarez’s death was staged, and has been constantly looking for her sister . Imagine Kyles surprise when he’s interviewed for the bodyguard’s job and finds out the person he’s protecting is non other than Myla and of course Michael Alvarez her boyfriend is still very much alive as well ......... The story is fast paced ,with lots of heart stopping dangerous moments of course the sexual tension between Kyle and Myla is off the charts ,it’s obvious what’s going to happen between them ,it all leads to an absolutely thrilling conclusion . ❤️❤️

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 April 2021Great book but glad that I’d read the story of Blake first to fully understand the situation with Myla and Michael. I would suggest reading this first. Kyle had finally found Myla after 12 months of searching for her and not giving up. By chance she is the person he’s employed to protect. Gaining each other’s trust along the way. Great book

5.0 out of 5 stars So much suspense. It's like the devil's waiting around the corner the whole time.
Loved this story, snuck in extra chapters during the day. The suspense is off the charts!
Myla was abducted by a drug lord and human trafficker. She has settled into her captivity and feels she needs to stay there so people think she's dead. She feels there's no hope for her freedom and accepts the fact that things are what they are in her gilded birdcage of an apartment she lives waiting for her captor to show up.
Kyle sees video footage of her escaping death along with the kingpin they're hunting. She didn't die as suspected and the look she gives a video camera tells him many things. She wanted proof of life to be known, that she was a captive and the look in her green eyes reached into his soul. He would find her. Whatever it took.
Great read! Very suspenseful, passionate, major male protectiveness, and has you on the edge of your seat the whole story until the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adult Action Romance, standalone 4,5*

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 Solid Stars
Deep Under is the 5th book of the Tall, Dark and Deadly series (or A Walker Security Novel) by Lisa Renee Jones. Each of these novels builds off of and relates back to all the previous. They are NOT standalones.
Deep Under is a solid 4 stars. I really enjoyed the relationship between Kyle and Myla. Kyle goes into this mission knowing who Myla is and what’s at stake. Myla, however, does not know who Kyle is. One thing I love with LRJ’s books is the honesty that her characters have. They have secrets, yes, but their emotions and feelings are honest, and that honesty eventually reveals their secrets and intentions behind their actions.
Myla is a strong woman. Alvarez is a bad, bad man. He traffics women, uses Myla, and deals drugs on a huge scale. Myla becomes trapped by Alvarez (he wants Myla for himself). And afraid to refuse him and end up sold to another monster or dead, she goes along with it (she's all trying to protect her sister). Myla is doing the best she can, and she’s very observant and unwilling to give up.
Kyle is a great character. He has been obsessed with finding Myla for over a year, and that dedication has had a great impact on him. He’s not a very deep or complex character, but he’s loyal. He is very protective of Myla, and not just because her safety is his responsibility. He’s smart, witty, sexy, and great with a gun. Kyle and Myla are hot together. Their attraction is instantaneous, and they don’t really fight it. I was hoping for a bit more tension before things got heated...and a bit more variety, ifyouknowwhatimean. I also wanted there to be more of a conflict with the fact that Myla is sleeping with the enemy, albeit unwillingly. Myla’s time (and unwilling actions) with Alvarez are glossed over.
Why not 5 stars? This is a shorter novel, and a quick read. These characters have been developing over 4 other books, respectively. Unfortunately, I felt that held me back from fully connecting with them. I just wanted everything to be a bit more developed. I liked how the action played out in the last few chapters. I can’t say much because I don’t include spoilers. But I will say that I’d hoped for a slightly different ending with more confrontation.
I mentioned earlier that this is not a standalone. I love a good series, but I have to admit I had difficulty remembering how all of the stories and characters connect. I blame myself for not taking the time to reread and reacquaint myself. However, a tiny mention of things to remind a reader wouldn’t hurt. For example, I can’t recall exactly how Kyle was burned by the last woman he thought he loved…. This conflict is mentioned, but not revisited, and I felt like it was kind of a big deal. The last thing is a personal peeve: I really dislike the endearment “sweetheart.” It feels dated and patronizing. Furthermore, it’s a mouthful when repeated throughout an entire novel.
Over all, I really liked Deep Under! It’s a reread for me, and I recommend it to readers who are familiar with the sexy men of Walker Security. And if you’re not, I recommend starting from the beginning with Hot Secrets (check if the bundle of books 1-4 is still available).
